AMAZING RESTORATION of ART DECO VANITY| Furniture Restoration | Painted Furniture |Trash to Treasure

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

What is under all that blue and pink paint? While this Art Deco Vanity appears to be very well made, paint can be used to hide a lot of repaired damage and flaws so I had no idea what I was going to find when I stripped this vanity.
Watch the video to see what was uncovered when I stripped it...
This video contains step by step instructions showing you how to strip paint from furniture. It also shows you how to stain furniture so you do not have to wait 72 hours to topcoat. Want to know how to clean brass hardware on furniture? This video shows you how easy it is!

I cant believe such high quality wood was under that paint. I was expecting a lot more damage. Makes me wonder why they painted it.

I think she did it to force her parents into buying her a new set. A little passive aggressive? I am just glad that I was able to take it off their hands and bring it back to life.

Or maybe she was a teen trying to give some more life to her room, she had that old dresser that didn't really make sense with her decoration, talked to her parents about the dresser and they didn't really give much mind to it since it was some old furniture and let her paint it because she liked DIYing (even if she is kinda bad at it) Like, I dont think the BIIG majority of people stop to think "this old furniture is high quality" and they are more like "I don't give much value to this furniture since it's old", we have to remember it's a renewed furniture it probably wasn't as pretty as it is now with the amazing work she did. I think it's just a "your trash is my treasure" kind of situation not a "passive aggressive way of making her parents make her buy new furniture" :^0

They probably had it and wanted a change. It is gorgeous. But i don't know of teens that would go mmm that wood staining is goregous. I want that. That's probably why it was painted. It was more suited to their taste.

They do t make furniture like this anymore. They make cheap made in China manufactured furnishings, that is NOT furniture in my mind anyway. I even have 2 end tables that have metal bases and the tops and bottoms. are a light grey laminate. I love metal, wrought iron, etc, but couldn’t find what I really wanted which was metal with marble tops and bottoms. So I went less expensive and bought these this time around. I love them, but how long will they last? I prefer all wood and or some marble, granite or stone accents or tops. Stone or marble tops on furniture preserves the wood tops a lot longer also, I think. This vanity she refinished is Stunning 😍 job well done!

This furniture had been listed on FBM for over 3 months. They started at $350 and had steadily dropped the price. When I finally went to get it they said they were going to have the trash men take it away if no one answered their ad for $50.

Exactly. Considering the age of some pieces would be my guideline as to whether to paint or not. I think of horrible thoughts like, what if this is the only one of its kind left? Survival piece, oh I get so sad then. Sounds silly I know but it is history.

I’m proud of the daughter for giving a shot at something that was completely unfamiliar to her! There was no way my parents would have allowed me to do this to my furniture, and believe me, I would have wanted to! 😉 As it turned out, my daughter used my childhood bedroom furniture until she got her great grandmother’s beautiful set. I turned one of “our” old dressers into a doll house.

Honestly, I didn't like her color choices and the paint wasn't the right type and/or she didn't prep the surface properly, but she didn't do a terrible job at painting. I've seen so many of these other channels restore something painted where the paint is everywhere, on the insides, outsides, sides of the drawers, overspray and drips. Hopefully that kid tries again after learning a little more.

WOOOWWW!!! What a gorgeous hidden treasure!! Like you, I kept waiting to see if there was some kind of hidden damage under all that paint, but it was flawless!! The colors the previous owner chose, while hideous, were also interesting. Art Deco furniture was very popular in South Florida in the 1920’s and when a lot of Miami Beach was being developed, hotels used them in their lobbies, rooms, etc. So when it became the rage again in the 80’s and buildings were being restored, they painted those buildings in the pinks and blues (basically pastels) like this piece. Unfortunately, people started painting everything these colors and it was waaayy overdone I’m from Miami (lived in Dallas for 23yrs now) and unless you know the history of Art Deco, most associate it with pastel colors (which is why the choice of colors were interesting to me) instead of style/shape of furniture for that period. Sorry for the long post (and little history lesson of S FL). I’m still just in awe of this treasure you found and the incredible job you did refinishing it.💜💜💜

Thank you. I love history too. I am happy to see Mid Century Modern making a come back too because the lines are so clean and simple. I recently did an MCM dresser and thought I was going to get by without damage until I stripped that last side and there I found a bunch of poorly repaired damaged wood. The wood filler was not even smooth. If I had examined it more carefully I would have seen it. This time I did look at it carefully so I did not think there was damage (or else it had been repaired very well) The link to the other video is here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aWyH05Zvlrirj5c.html

I saw another flipper stripping some furniture and they said that in 10 years from now we will all be stripping off the paint that we are putting on furniture now. Probably true. BUT look at the furniture for sale in the stores- that represents what is selling now. Most of it is painted! That what sells. So, when I flip furniture I frequently flip it. There are plenty of tutorials how to paint furniture so my videos tend to be more about restoring furniture to look like it did originally or restyling old looking furniture to make it look modern.

I like your four step process…. It makes a lot of sense and I’m going to utilize your method next time I strip a piece. Did that one can suffice for this piece! I would call this a Sleeping Beauty…what wondrous natural beauty you revealed under that hideous paint!
