    The realism of the environment is crazy - And apparently - according to an interview with Martha - most of the environments exists in real (non-cgi) covering 3 football fields. Acting was a bit subpar and the storyline is overly complicated and some scenes just doesn't make sense.

    What the hell... And I thought that Cyberpunk was more mainstream than steampunk and, as such, steampunk was confused with cyberpunk more that the opposite. Fuck, the aesthetics alone would make this confusion quite moronic. I would understand it if it din't looked the the typicla cyberpunk setting, but it world looks quite simmilar to Blade Runner.

Bought the 3rd book physically and can't wait to start reading it. For those who read the book why do Neo-C's have "stacks"? If they believe in only having one life what is the point of having stack in the first place. I know they have the neo-c coding but like why even have the stack implanted to begin with?

    Bacon Bankai It is the law. Everyone gets a stack implanted at birth. Fail to retrieve the DH from a deceased is also against the law. The book just calls them Catholics, not Neo-C. They do not believe on resleeving. Therefore are the favourite victims from serial killers, and criminals in general.

  • @imaginarymax183

    @imaginarymax183

    6 жыл бұрын

    Personally, I just thought that it’s because of the people who receive them. They are implanted when you’re 1 year old and that’s too young to be able to make your own choices. Some people choose to renounce their religious coding and so it would be immoral let parents stop their children from receiving one altogether because it would stop the children from being able to make decisions about their own mortality when they reached legal adulthood. This probably led to it being required by law for all to have a stack implanted, and that’s why the Neo-C still have stacks.

    Imagining this premise was possible, all you could potentially storage on a device (stack or whatever) are someone's memories (which inludes habits, programmed behaviour, etc). I believe a person in so much more than that, and, just like Neo-Cs , I also believe that human spirit cant be contained in a memory stick. We could discuss the possibility of it coming back inside a body once it's "spun-up", but that's what we already have if you think about the idea of reincarnation.

  • @GeorgieChaos

    @GeorgieChaos

    4 жыл бұрын

    It's mentioned in the post-wakeup interview with the warden type character that Ryker's sleeve also has milspec upgrades & augments, if that helps, & IIRC while the Envoys make use of available upgrades when they can get them, the majority of what they do relies on mental training to be able to make the best use of whatever environment and sleeve they find themselves in. A lot of their methodology was specifically developed to take advantage of body-switching tech, after all. That said, Kovacs in his original sleeve is shown doing some kind of sound-based vision to get the soldiers' positions through the wall in a flashback and I don't remember seeing him do that again in Ryker's sleeve, but maybe I'm wrong about that.

    What I don’t understand : when you get yourself a backup and your stack is destroyed afterwards so you are forced to resleeve from your cloud back up into a new body...... aren’t you dead then ? The real you died with the stack and your backup replaces you with all your memory’s, but that doesn’t change the fact that the backup is just a perfect copy and not actually you. So why would anyone do this ? Seems pretty pointless to me.

  • @genevaechols7935

    @genevaechols7935

    Not being mean but did you watch the show. The back up doesn’t have current memories, so there is a gape if that happens. It’s still you just backed up

    +Geneva Echols the backup means its copy of the original. The point is a backup of you, is not the real you but only a copy of you.

  • @chrisg.6509

    @chrisg.6509

    6 жыл бұрын

    Geneva Echols Yeah Sure but that doesn't change the fact, that your back up is not your real conscious self. For example when your perform the action of double sleeving, you place a copy /Backup of yourself into another sleeve, but your former sleeve still exists and so do you. If you were to die now, your copy could replace you and no one would bat an eye, but the real you is still dead. You are not the sum of your memories, that's not my point.

  • @sbam4881

    @sbam4881

    6 жыл бұрын

    It's not just the sum of your memories - it *is* basically your entire consciousness. Reason, beliefs, inclinations, personality, phobias, preferences etc. are retained. E.g.1. Suppose you are inclined to like coffee but you've never tasted it prior to a back-up re-sleeve so you don't know it yet (and thus have no memory about it at all) - when you taste coffee for the first time you will still like it. E.g. 2 After re-sleeving, your memory will allow you to remember the rules of a game - be it chess, poker, or rock-paper-scissors - but how you play it is not just about "memory" - how aggressive or defensive you are, your patience level, whether you like to lean forward or lean back, how wins or losses affect your morale/temperament etc. will be the same between the old and new you too. Your contention may still be that a "photo-copy" of your consciousness is still not the original consciousness - the show's contention is that your consciousness is your consciousness regardless of how/where it's stored or how many storage devices it may occupy.

They are connected to the technology of the lost race ("Martians" although it's stated that they didn't originate there.). It was finding the "elder" ruins on mars, and the songspires that lead to the creation of the cortical stack, and the location of the "settled worlds" (all of which were settled by slower than light colony ships).

    The series never explains at what point the owner of a birthed sleeve decides install a stack In themselves. Is this a thing you do when you are of a certain age? Or is it installed right after the birth of a child. I would like to believe there is a law against stacking children, but that wouldn't be true as Takeshi was a child himself when he was sleeved into a man, and Rei conveniently had a child sleeve. I felt that was the only problem I had with the explanation of the use of stacks; WHEN does it get installed into a birthed sleeve.

    Rawbeard I believe because it's just the law. During the prison briefing scene, it's said that all citizens recieve a stack at birth.

    I got that, but why don't the Neo-Cs refuse that? I don't see any use for stacks the Protectorate would refuse them, if they allow for religeous coding. and since those seem to be made from some alien material in the first place not wasting resources on people who will never use those things as intended seems smart.

    You're clueless. The production value is vastly superior to that of Arrow/CW shows. The budget for about 2-3 eps of Altered Carbon would probably be the equivalent of the entire series budget of Arrow or Flash.
