    I once saw Floyd Patterson walking on 6th Avenue around West 48th-50th Streets some time in the late 1980s. The guy just stood out, almost everyone recognized him. He was so gracious, it was like watching this glowing figure of light walking.

    @@asmar4911 Floyd : “I say it, and I say it flatly, that the image of a Black Muslim as the world heavyweight champion disgraces the sport and the nation. Cassius Clay must be beaten and the Black Muslim's scourge removed from boxing.” Ali held racist views, shared platform and agreed with the KKK that all Blacks in America should be sent back to Africa. In a playboy magazine interview he went further, said that any black seen with a white woman should be killed. Check it out. Ali was a nasty piece of work, “Uncle Floyd” was not much better.

    Floyd Patterson often fought heavyweights slightly bigger than him and finished with a 55-8 record which is impressive to me little did y'all know competition was way different back in the 50s before Ali burst on to the scene this man is more like a light heavyweight and still held his own out there even in his later years when he was dealing with a nagging back injury, it seems like so many modern day fight fans have been overlooking Floyd Patterson which is disappointing, he clearly deserves more recognition

    When this fight was stopped in the 7th, Patterson led on several score cards from independent sources, well versed in boxing. From watching the fight numerous times, I saw a boxing chess match between two masters of boxing. Floyd put up a great struggle in fight 2. I saw a dead even fight before the cut eye forced it's stoppage Those first 5-rounds fans got to see Patterson's lighting-fast hand speed. Several times during the fight fans got to see that speed when he would cut loose with a 3-punch combination, so fast even the great Ali gave ground from this assault. Ali's boxing skills/record qualifies him as being one of the the top five Heavyweight Champs in boxing history. Ali had his hands full in the second fight. By fight time Patterson was 37-years old whereas Ali was 30, a huge age advantage for Ali in boxing world. At 37, Floyd still had his stuff, and displayed those skills keeping his last fight tight with one of the greatest. He had trained hard and came into the ring weighing close to the 188 he fought at as champ. Floyd was a gentleman, modest, and behaved like a Heavyweight Champ should, in ring and out. I wished there were more like him. I hope both Champs "Rest-in-Peace", both gave the fans greatness to hold onto and remember! David Abney

    Good point. Hard to imagine with Ali’s speed and ring instincts that Tyson would have been able to do much damage early on. I’d bet Ali would dance around him for 4-5 rounds and taunt him getting Tyson to waste energy and then in the middle rounds he would unleash a barrage of punches on Tyson. If he didn’t knock him out, he’d win every round from the 6th round on by a mile.

He was smaller than Foreman and would probably try to evade his punches and fight from the inside with his peekaboo style, but Foreman was an expert countering this, just look at his two fights against Frazier. Well, Floyd's back was horrible for this fight. His corner and him actually tried to do some stretches in-between rounds, but it hurt him to even bend down. The proof came in the rematch where 37 year old Patterson gave a solid account of himself despite the age and size difference until a cut stopped the fight.

  • @williamsmith1803

    @williamsmith1803

    3 жыл бұрын

    @King Untouchable Wasn't trying that hard or was just not able to catch Patterson? That has to be the lamest excuse ever heard. First, he fails to finish a guy with a notoriously shaky jaw when the guy can't even bend over; afterwards, he can hardly touch him, despite having a massive size and age deficit. You must be one of those people who thinks Ali was really untouchable and would somehow beat the Klitschko brothers, even though he never really beat Norton and never fought a modern heavyweight.

  • @williamsmith1803

    @williamsmith1803

    3 жыл бұрын

    @King Untouchable By modern heavyweight, I mean, a modern sized fighter. You can't find a heavyweight champ who isn't 6'5 and 245lbs, yet - 6'3 and 230 lbs was huge -- back in Ali's era. Ali in the 60's was untouchable, yet he was knocked down by bums like Sonny Banks and Henry Cooper hit him so hard his corner tore his glove to buy time for Ali to recover. Let me guess, he wasn't trying in those fights. Wladimir and Vitali were probably the two greatest heavyweights of all time, as far as who would beat who in a match and not "legacy". The vast majority of Ali's opponents were cruiserweights, yet he's going to beat guys who are both taller and heavier than anyone he faced (besides an overweight Mathis Jr.), but also have incredible fundamental and conditioning advantages? Once Wladimir figured out how to hide his chin in his 30's, even PED monsters like Wach and Povetkin couldn't touch him. Vitali wasn't as technical as his brother, but he had an iron jaw and was even bigger than his brother. Since you say a lot of guys would've beaten them, how about listing who you somehow think would've beaten them? Lennox literally said "I'm getting better with age", before facing a very young and inexperienced Vitali (who stepped in on short notice) in a life-or-death fight where he was down on the card but got saved by a freak cut and then promptly retired; Bowe had no work ethic and was getting worked-over easily by bum Golota, before Golota decided to spam low-blows like a coward; Marciano would be a super-middlewight, by modern standards; Dempsey would be a small cruiserweight; Jack Johnson's style of working in the clinch wouldn't work under modern rules and his distance boxing was a product of the times; Joe Louis was beat by the same punch for a whole fight against Schmeling (lead right) and got thrashed for a long time in the first Conn fight (with Conn being smaller than a light heavyweight); Foreman got beaten and knocked down by pillow-punching cruiserweight Jimmy Young --- who was just a worse version of Chris Byrd, in his prime; Larry Holmes fell on the right side of 3 bad decisions, in his prime (Norton, Williams, and Witherspoon), and, he struggled with Shavers who was cumbersome and gassed easily like a heavyweight, yet also had no speed; Holyfield was way too small and hittable to fight someone so much bigger than him, as shown by him getting shutdown by Lewis's distance boxing twice; Tyson literally finished almost nobody 6'3 and over, even in his prime against guys like an old Smith, Mitch Green (who?), and Tony Tucker. He was making the "past my prime" excuse at like 23 getting ko'd by gatekeeper Douglas. It doesn't sound like those guys could beat two brothers who dominated an era of massive heavyweights that often got busted for PEDs. You're living in the past. Just because you grew up on those guys and their fights were more entertaining, doesn't mean they could beat the bigger, stronger, smarter heavyweights of modern times.

    Patterson was more technical with the pee-ka-boo style. Tyson was pure raw ruthless aggression , as a brawler and a boxer. When you see Patterson, he is fast , and has great technique , but he just doesn't have that killer instinct like Tyson does. In Tyson fights, you can see he's out there to get you , he's the hunter ,the predator, and you're the prey.

    Why do you say that? Tyson had it all. Power, footwork and what he claims was his biggest advantage speed. See for yourself in various highlights of both fighters. Tyson was just too damn fast for a heavy weight and did not throw pitter patter punches. He wanted to take your head off. He was too damn fast for everyone in his prime!

    Please. Patterson had the same Peek-a-boo style as Tyson and was trained by Tysons trainer Cus'Dmato and look how Ali just dismantles him by timing his movement with uppercuts and hooks. Tyson in his prime was bamboozled and outclassed by James Douglas... Prime Ali was another level to Douglas.
