Define this Independence. If it means a changing of the guard, then to what extent for the people of Scotland? If it means freedom then there is a cost to that freedom. Responsibility for oneself and the nation to sustain themselves must bring trade, freedoms previously removed and honesty about the journey ahead. To merely throw away the shackles from one to be shackled by another is just change for change sake. What are the stipulations... the line where the Scottish people agree here... and no more. Are the Scottish people ready to take such a step for a reward so great. And will others interfere in her journey for their own benefit, as we've seen countless times before.

Gosh... Where to start? I write as an Englishman not unsympathetic to the cause of Scottish independence. My views tend to be born south of the border and much of my reading matter originates here, too - but not all. Poor Mr Salmons is one of the clowns at the helm when the SNP was at its most self-destructive, its most unhelpfully combative, its most inclined to unpleasant, spiteful infighting. Scotland deserves so much better than the SNP and the absurd copy of "The People's Front of Judea" that is Alba. Holyrood often resembles a parish council with ego issues. I write that with affection and with a good deal of sympathy for the wider cause.

The "wider cause" which the people of Scotland voted against in 2014 when there was a referendum? The SNP refuse to accept the result of this, and also refuse to accept the result of the Brexit vote. The democratic will of the people seems to mean nothing. (and before some halfwit SNP supporter chimes in with some ill-reasoned abuse - elections to the Scottish Parliament, or to Westminster are not single issue votes - as referenda are - people vote on a platform of issues not just one)
