Former Scottish first minister slams SNP strategy | Lord McConnell

“I am very surprised that they didn’t think this through when they abandoned the climate targets last Thursday. And even more surprised that the Greens didn’t immediately leave the government”.
Former Scottish first minister, Lord McConnell, says it now “sounds like the deal is on” between Humza Yousaf and the Alba Party.

It could be that Scotland is in for interesting times. Since the Scottish Parliament was created in 1999, there have been either two-party coalition governments or a one-party minority government. If, as seems possible, there is a general election for the Scottish Parliament this year, it seems unlikely that any two parties can, between them, for a majority government other than a Labour-SNP government. We can rule out any possibility of a Labour-SNP government. In view of the imminence of a general election, it seems likely that no party will join a coalition government that includes the Conservatives. That leaves only one other possibility: a Labour/Green/ Lib Dem coalition government. Both Labour and the Lib Dems agree with the Greens on climate change and gender politics so such a coalition could be possible.

I don’t think no one from England or I want to go to Scotland at the minute. It sounds like you’re going to like a Russian state or some sort of like Chinese state. There’s like you gotta be careful what you’re saying up there because you might get my phone off and say he said this can you be arrested? Is that the tourist can be arrested as well for that law? What’s been passed? I just wanna know about that. Are you allowed to say what you want? If you’re a tourist going up there? I mean you can talk about things without getting arrested you know or what is one of your people in the next room you’re talking to your Mrs and they reported you and said no, he was saying such a touch with that person be arrested by the Scottish police.

To answer your question ....No. You can only be arrested for stirring up hatred. The Hate Crime Bill only consolidates existing laws with the addition of age to the groups protected. They are similar to the laws in England.

@@georgeiii2998 No. You are entitled as anyone resident in Scotland. Unfortunately you are now in a minority otherwise your favoured party would be open to a referendum. @@hashburystumble8808 Ah yes, the "blue Tory or red Tory" question. Of course, anyone who sees the damage that would be done to Scotland if it left the fifth largest economy suddenly is automatically a conservative. I want a Labour government in Westminster and Holyrood, one which strengthens the UK and its constituent nations, putting high tax thresholds on those who can afford it, increasing public expenditure, nationalising rail and water, increasing attainment, funding education... fairly traditional left-wing views. Of course, might not be enough for some. After all, I think that an economy with no set currency (we won't be getting either the pound or euro) with the main selling point being oil in an increasingly green world isn't anything for an independent country to be built on, and certainly doesn't outdo what we get from London or will improve quality of life in Scotland in any measure whatsoever... but there you go.
