Albanian migrant deported from UK says he regrets illegal Channel crossing - BBC Newsnight

Albanian migrant Artan, who asked to remain anonymous and chose this as an alias, paid Kurdish people smugglers around £3,500 ($4,169) to enter the UK on a small boat.
Artan is one of more than 12,000 who arrived in the UK on small boats this year. Unusually, on arrival Artan admitted to being an economic migrant, and was quickly deported back to Tirana.
Newsnight’s Joe Inwood looks at why so many young men are choosing to leave Albania on a dangerous and expensive journey, and what can be done to stop them leaving.

None of the countries that illegal immigrants come from will allow an Englishman to live in those countries unless he meets the financial level that's demanded. None will allow any illegal immigrants to stay, most imprison and then expel them. Many countries do not allow foreigners to buy property. Most never give citizenship to a foreigner, even if he marries a local woman. I live in a small town, almost every shop and restaurant is owned by Turkish people. It's the same in most towns and cities of England. It seems that those coming to the UK illegally are wealthy enough to pay £3 or £4 thousand pounds to smugglers and still have enough to start a business. I'm confused and would love to live somewhere abroad, but I'm too poor.

We need to be firmer on the benefits system in UK. We can no longer support it - those that can work should work and those that do not have a visa to work in the UK and cannot contribute to the society should leave. The UK system has already collapsed. Those that are employed and work all hours of the day cant afford basic cost of living because the taxes and bills they pay are getting to be more than their average income - and what do the majority of our taxes go on? public services stretched too thin, immigration and benefits. I saw a woman complaining the benefits system wasn’t enough to cover the cost of her and her five kids… here is a thought… why did you have five kids knowing that you wouldn’t be able to support them?! at what point are people going to start taking responsibility for their actions, working hard again for what they need and stop expecting handouts. Running away to another country thats already in a state of collapse is not the answer. Expecting “compassion” and not a police escourt when you broke the law and entered into the country without declaring what skills you have that can help cover the cost of you being there or how you are going to contribute as a community member of the UK? How much does your deportation cost the UK taxpayer that cant currently afford to keep their own heating on or pay their own food bills… what a mess.

Being Greek I've known Albanians for over 30 years, and our countries are often at odds with eachother, but there's unfairness here. True, there are numerous criminal gangs, and many of them end up in crime . However, the bulk of Albanians who have been coming to Greece all these years , work day and night like beasts of burden, to invest at home. It's understandable that all countries are fed up with illegal immigration and I quite agree with the deportation of illegal ones. What I object to is the bad press . If you invited Albanian migrants for work in Britain, you'd get a most hardy, clever and resilient workforce who would use their income to build their own country, where they will one day return

I’m Albanian as both of my parents are. I understand the fact that Albanians want to find a better life but the country is not as bad as they make it out to be, i’m not too informative about the gangs but most of these Albanians probably don’t personally have these problems. Albanians feel they have a need to leave the country but again they only want to leave because they feel that they can’t do much in there current situations, fact is they can still find jobs and have an education but they don’t get satisfied as they want more, yes Albanians government is sort of corrupt by greediness as well still though not as bad as some other nations, but this is also dangerous for the Albanians themselves you won’t know if they are really in not a good position or if they are greedy for wanting something else, most Albanians own they’re own houses even than they have lots of connection to family in the country and outside so if they’re in a bad position they kind of have that for cover, most Albanians though they are hard workers too they want easy life without all that hard work out into it first, how is it that if they don’t have money they could always go out for coffee or any sort of other drinks like Raki. A lot have opportunity’s to leave they’re country’s for a bit to find work but even than that doesn’t happen I have cousins who have done just that and came back with nothing, and for Albania they don’t wanna leave because they hate they’re country they absolutely love it but again they might leave for other reasons said, they’re were time when Albania has real problems such as war but that’s gone now these days even though Albanians still have they’re own problems they can still thrive in they’re position, Albania has work to do but this is because Albanians don’t try to help fix they’re country but surely it’s taken of instead though Albanians run from they’re problems rather than face them. All and all though Albania is not a country of which it’s collapse, most don’t have legit reason to leave they’re country.

Well said.... I think personally these are just visa dodgers, because they know they won't pass the visa criteria, this why they enter this way and its breaking the law but most of these are criminals anyway coming here... If they can afford 3.5 thousand pounds to travel on that boat they certainly aren't in desperate need... As you honestly said your country isn't at war, so they can't use that excuse and even when they are in France they are safe... These men mainly do this, think they don't have rules or laws to follow like the rest of us do... Here in the UK a massive house shortage because of people like this draining our country's system.... We have had enough now, they are taking our children's and Grandchildren's future.... The army, navy now need to protect our boarders with weapons and this UK government need lessons from the Australian government how to protect our boarders!!!!!!

If I still had the large garden my parents owned 25 years ago, I would build a shack there or go live in a van on the grounds, because I can't afford anything more. But - here comes the fun fact - I do not leave my country to go live on other people's social system. Refugees are not wanted anywhere. They are a disturbance in the social system of countries. Well, if he was an illegal migrant, it’s right he be deported. This is rather simple. Immigration, done right, works. Britain simply needs to get control of its front door. We should assess what kind of skills we need to import and these people should be the first pick. Genuine asylum seekers should also be justly heard. The trouble at the moment is that Britain has left its front door unlocked while it popped to the shops for a pint of milk, and some unwanted squatters have moved in.

Difference is in currency . People earn 10 times more per hour in UK , although, this money is nothing in UK. They save up some money to invest back home by sharing meagre , cramped accommodation and not spending for anything else , just modest food. Few month or a year , save some money and return home. If you live normally with this money in UK you would be struggling in poverty.

why are there more and more homeless people???? because the UK government made the mistake of accepting millions of Muslim immigrants who took away the jobs of native people and even planned to spread their false religious teachings. what makes Islamic countries poor??? because Islam legalizes pedophilia and polygamy. besides making their growth faster than their economic growth. Pedophilia and polygamy also make corruption rampant because the wives spend more than their salaries.
