Alan Watts - The Real You

Музыка

A philosophically oriented remix of the late Eastern Philosopher Alan Watts' 1971 special "A Conversation With Myself" combined with visuals from the great art film "Baraka".

• Alan Watts: A Conversa...
For fans of Symphony of Science ( symphonyofscience.com ) Enjoy!
Lyrics:
You're breathing
The wind is blowing
The trees are waving
Your nerves are tingling
The individual and the universe
Are inseparable
But the curious thing is
Very few people are aware of it
Everything in nature
Depends on everything else
So it's interconnected
We confuse ourselves as living organisms which are one with this whole universe
With something we call our personality
And what is our personality?
And our fundamental self is not something just inside the skin
It's everything around us with which we connect
When you look out of your eyes
At nature happening out there
You're looking at you
That's the real you-
The you that goes on of itself
Now listen
It's absolutely necessary
That we let go of ourselves- and it can't be done,
Not by anything that we call doing it, acting, willing,
Or even just accepting things
It seems that the human being
Really has a very simple kind of mind
Nature is wiggly
Everything wiggles
And all this wiggliness is too complicated
[Refrain]

I owe melodysheep such an immense debt. If not for this music, I might never have become aware of the philosophy of Alan Watts or the transformative worldview of Carl Sagan, both of which are mainstays that have kept me from going over the edge.

Kai Tendo She probably means that Watts and Sagan helped give her a clearer picture of the world instead of that tribalistic, close-minded, egoic outlook all too many people have of the world around them. Groups like ISIS are based in that line of closed off thinking, and it's a common trait to see in the world.

But that's why melodysheep makes the music, and I just listen to it. nature is happening out there, guys

Suicide is something we tie to leaving our pain behind. But only creates more for those living, best way is finding cooping mechanisms. For me, that has been Alan. From addisons diesase killing me to realizing not only the pain i felt. But the pain in the eyes of those looking at me and my soul. We will carry our debts with us when we die but it is important not to force so. Alan has made my thoughts more clear and concise. Am extremely thankful but still fighting daily for reasons. Just keep a reminder, you matter. To someone, to something. What ever your purpose may be. Love when he talks about letting go. "It is important that we let go of ourselves, and it can be done. Not by anything we call, by doing. Acting, willing or even just accepting." We are all going to die but carrying a differnce in your heart, makes changes. Thanks Alan!

+Tortoise010 Not high, actually. His view is largely talking about a state of not-self and nondualism. These concepts are actually heavily supported by science. A neurologist can make the same calls about the illusion of personhood and use data to back them up. For Watts, it was about experience to see there's no "I" that is cut off from the world, that thinks thoughts, and how such views were true bullshit. If everything is interdependent and interconnected, how is there separateness to the degree we infer? If there is no free will and no way to be a cut off "I," how can you have a self, soul, or ego? How we define ourselves is one of the greatest illusions of human thought ever devised.

In the original video, he criticizes Euclid for imposing arbitrary rules on the logic of space and time. He expands on this to the point that he correlates things like the sins of Industrialism with Euclidean Geometry. Not exactly a professional, cited thesis paper, (a left-leaning Historian would talk more about Capitalism, for example) but it's an interesting train of thought.

    A. Watts helped me to take myself less seriously. His message is so clear and sane, that I feel more in tune with myself, after hearing his entertaining views. With youtube his voice reaches more people, than it had the opportunity to reach before the Internet. That makes me smile. To those who question his sincerity, I tell: I know he was a drunk, and a womanizer even. But that doesn't take away from the message, it only shows he was a human too, that's OK, and don't take this too seriously ;)

The best thing about Melodysheep is not only his music/beats, but he's introduced me to so many amazing thinkers...

Honestly I wouldn't have even autotuned him. A rapping Alan Watts is already the best thing ever.

Carl Sagan, just like Alan Watts, are some of the greatest thinkers and speakers of human history, and certainly of the last century. If you truly get Sagan and Watts, you realize the points they share are similar, and where they branch out as separate things still offers great insight. There is nothing either one says that contradicts the other. In fact, both of them compliment one another wonderfully.

Alan Watts and Carl Sagan are perhaps the two people of recent times to be so full of wisdom and sincere intellect that it blows my mind that we don't have more people like them! I think the world would be a better place if we didn't fall into the potholes of mainstream society and think, and more importantly, ACT well beyond that linear, binary scope of looking at things. There is more to life than what we dare fathom.

I once typed in "The Nature of Consciousness" on a whim (or so I'll call it) and a transcript of one of his lectures came up. I read it immediately. The next day, I went out and bought a copy of The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are, and it changed my life. I am a huge fan of Terence McKenna, and I love almost everything the guy says...but ultimately, I have to go back to Watts as my "hero" as such. I wish he were still among us, and I know that he is...as he himself says.
