Who would have thought that Neville would be such an amazing presenter? He's just so good. He knows what he's talking about, he has inside knowledge, he has a rapport with every player he talks with, he listens and asks the right questions. He's just so watchable, and makes all the players so watchable. Shearer used to get bagged for being "boring" and I know he's done a lot of work as a pundit since that, but he certainly isn't boring in this, and I think a lot of that is to do with Neville drawing people out. The interview with Keane was also really good.

The two biggest regrets I have about players not signing for United are Shearer in 1996 and Brian Laudrup when he left Rangers on a free in 1997 and went to Chelsea...Both would have been fantastic at United

As a Newcastle fan, this interview really touches the heart and brings back sweet memories. We may have won nothing, but it was fun then. Crazy at times but fun most of the time.

You've never met him, all you are judging him on is his tv appearances which are staged. Shearer is not universally liked in his own stomping ground, he doesn't even know the working hours of the working class... 7-5, 7-6.... no Alan 9-5, 8-5,

When I think of strikers that could absolutely wallop the ball, I think of Shearer, Batistuta, Hasselbaink.

im a Liverpool fan but absolutely love Shearer. My best ever tournament was Euro 96 and he was at his peak. legend

City fan here and I absolutely love Alan shearer. One of the most loved players in the world, playing for his boyhood club beats winning all the trophies in the world

I don't think so it's a good advice... dreaming to be a singer or footballer or performer is good but not many have the obsessiveness to make it to the top .. it requires an obsessiveness and craziness beyond what normal people can ever think of ... get a good engineering degree would be much better fot a lot of people

Working smartly and efficiently AND working hard is better yet again. The real winners in this world all have something in common... they work harder than everybody else. Hard work and passion can be moulded, it can get you a long way and allow somebody to realize their potential. The advice from his parents is fantastic.

I love Alan Shearer interviews, so humble and honest, big shame he doesn't want to go back into management as I think he'd do a great job

Shearer the greatest out and out centre forward in Premier League history

I feel like Alan and Gary are examples of loyalty that don’t seem to exist in football these days. It has me hoping youngsters like Reece James, Saka etc can stick around at their club for years to come and get to that top level. It’s definitely something special that football needs going forward.

Fair enough but still that fact that he grew in Manchester, supported United, played his entire career there, and to this day backs and supports the club is something that is very rare if not non existent in modern football.

Shearer scored a significant percentage of my favourite goals ever, as a United fan he was a nightmare in the 90s. His volleys were legendary, at the time I remember thinking he was like a better version of Mark Hughes.

What a legend man, love hearing more from big Al, my hero as a kid, great seeing Gary and him chat as you can tell there is a genuine friendship and real mutual respect there. Recently returned to watching football after many years away. Loving it. This video series enriches the game tremendously. Well done Gary and team. Alan Shearer is another example of English players that are great both on and off the pitch.

When Alan didn't sign for Manchester United I hated him. He was the very best and he had strong competition. I doubt that we will ever see a striker as good as Alan again. Very down to earth and passionate about football. A very likeable guy and I wish him all the best. This is the best player interview by miles.

Nah Shay was a top quality shot stopper but was never elite level . He never ever came for crosses , he always sat on his line . Sometimes u need ur keeper to command his area n that's something he didn't n couldnt do . How many goals do teams concede from crosses when he's in goal ? Guaranteed th percentage goes up with Shay in goal . Top shot stopper but nah not quite elite level

Given was class for Ireland in particular, saved us so many times.

Massive respect to Alan. If you turn down a club as big as Man United it only shows your loyalty towards the club that you love. One of the very few players where money was not the first priority.

Absolutely love Alan Shearer… as a City fan I’ve always loved Newcastle as a club, amazing fans very similar to City fans, I’ll never forget going up there when City lost to them in the FA Cup in 2002 and Keegan came on the screen to do his post match interview and the whole boozer went quiet… class club and class people 👏🏻

Mate I had the same experience, I joined the Army at 16, had to leave Liverpool and everything in my life behind and move to London. Watched my mum crying at the station, I then locked myself in the toilet and cried uncontrollably for about have an hour. But it was the best move I ever made. You are a true legend of the game, I'm my opinion as a Liverpool fan, you are the best the premier League has ever see 👏

Was never a fan of Gary in his playing days being a NUFC supporter, but since he has left football (so to speak) I've found a new admiration for him. Love his honesty when commentating and now things such as this. May it long continue Gary.

Great player but doen't convince me with his inane ramblings on MOTD that he's anywhere near managerial material. It would all have ended in tears no matter who 'owned' the club.

Ngl Shearer is underrated everywhere apart from Newcastle Ik he’s a god up here but I feel like people don’t give him the recognition of the greatest striker the premier league has seen they focus on Rooney and Henry and aguero but I rarely see Shearer apart from Newcastle fans

One of the best goals i saw Shearer score was a volley against Everton from outside the box. What a finish.

I do hope the new owners at the toon look at this interview. If ever a guy knows what that club needs to get better it's him. At the top of his game he could have played for any club in the league he wanted and chose the club he loves. Respect him for that.

Just commented the same thing, all about his time at Newcastle which was a complete and utter failure, didn't even manage second let alone any silverware.

Thoroughly enjoyed that interview, Frank’s family must be so proud of his achievements and so grounded, his mum would certainly be proud , all the best for the future. A great interview from Gary Neville too.

Always someone that has to try and be smart, just listen to the interview and the insight offered by someone that just wanted to play for his hometown club.

Another great Overlap episode. I wish Newcastle all the best, its gonna be fascinating watching the investment. Newcastle is a great city and the geordies are great people. Don't waste this opportunity, like my club did.

Whenever you hear anyone talk about Bobby Robson, it is incredible how much respect, admiration, love people have for him. He sounds like a truly incredible human being, never mind football.

You're clearly not a Sunderland fan. He's an awful bloke. Good goalscorer, but a million miles away from admirable. Disrespected the East Durham mining community on multiple occasions - you must be from north of the Tyne.

What absolute treasures both of these players/presenters are.

TBH there is a lot of football programmes ATM and they all make me wince. This has really impressed me. Now a days its all subscription based so this is a blessing. The fan engagement is great and I feel there is genuine honesty from the guests.
