We all know that Al Green had grits thrown on him. But what do you know about the woman who threw the grits? Did you know that she committed suicide....that same night? Well, that is the story that was running in newspapers decades ago. Do you believe it? Or do you believe that something more sinister happened? Does hearing about Al Green's abusive past with women sway your opinion about the situation?
Enjoy this Ti's Hot Mess History scandal and draw your own conclusion.

I can't even count the number of stories I've heard and the number of men in their 60s, 70s, and 80s that talked about how they used to smack women around!!! They say that the women didn't respect a man unless he did that.. AND THEN THERE ARE WOMEN who say something about that as well.... Like Billie Holiday for example had a song about how she would rather her man beat her than leave her.... So, the mentality was DEEP rooted in society.. But, it's even sadder to know how deeply accepted this was in OUR Black Community......

His road manager helped him cover it up. The victim broke into his home, saw he was in bed with another woman, quietly made the grits, proceeded to his room and threw it on him and ran. Al grabbed his gun which he kept on his nightstand, he then chased her down and shot her after which time he called his road manager. She had written the note some days before the shooting because Al had broken up with her due to a situation with her husband, it was an attempt to get him to feel sorry for her and take her back, so he already had the note in his possession and conveniently used it during the cover up.

Al Greene, huh? I remember my parents talking about his rampant abuse of his wife/girlfriend. What was happening during that time is that men and husbands were beating their wives and girlfriends so brutally, some even killing their women. I remember my parents also said a similar thing about Tina Turner getting beat again and again. I remember my dad saying she will be alright if she could get away from that violent man. I don't know what this story is being told as if she was the issue. It was these insecure dogs in the Entertainment Music Industry who abuse the Artists. My eldest sister went through this kind of abuse and I remember after she was beaten, she later expressed to us (our mother and us siblings) that she thought about throwing hot grits on her violent husband. But my parents encouraged her to leave. My sister suffered from Battered Wives Syndrome so profoundly that while we were in Sunday service she kept telling my parents that she didn't know how she would escape with her child. But my mother said, "Honey, look at where you are. Right now, you're here at church with us with the baby in your arms. Just don't go home." She didn't and she never went back. He was so livid. He told her that he treated her kindly and that she should be grateful that he didn't do to her what some husbands did to their wives by keeping her in the hospital. What?!! What a bastard.

My grandmother (born 1905) spoke of a distant relative of her mother--my great-grandmother--who caused a tragedy. I believe this took place in NYC but I'm not sure. Anyway, the story goes that this relative, a man, was involved in with a beautiful woman from the Caribbean islands. She had moved in with him, against her family's wishes. Her family did not condone living together without marriage. But the woman assured them that she was engaged and that the man was going to marry her. But time passed and no marriage resulted. Every time the subject was broached, the man just kept leading her on. Finally, one day, after speaking to her relatives in the islands who wanted to know when she was going to get married, this woman confronted the man again. Her relatives were anxious to come for the wedding. So that same day, the woman spoke to the man in the living room of the house about making wedding plans. At this time, he laughed and said he had no intention of ever marrying her. She then went upstairs to a bedroom. He heard a shot and went running up the stairs to discover this beautiful woman had killed herself. After he caused such a tragedy, my great-grandmother's side of the family cut off all contact with him. Word was that they man lost his mind after that. I hope he did.

Another guy did this on his KZread channel! He said it was later discovered that she had a husband and four kids that AL Green didn't know about! His friends, after being around her, said she was nice but very quiet but moody! The other lady, who was said to be a platonic friend, was in his same suite but with her own room! She said she saw Mary, who was also in the suite, look at an already boiling pot of grits! She then walked toward the pot, grabbed it and headed for the bathroom! His friend screamed for him to watch out but it was too late. She threw it on him! She then committed suicide! Later he said on VH1 that he had a terrible time living without her and that he still loved her!!

@@tanieshawebster5324 are you trying to say women allow men to be trifling, abusive and degenerate so that's why they are like that? I don't get your logic. Adult men don't know within themselves that's those traits and behaviors are not good and causes arm to other people but because women 'allow' it that's why they are like that? You cannot be serious. If I don't allow a man to mistreat me that doesn't means he's not going to move on to the other woman and mistreat them. Not because I didn't allow him to mistreat me he's going to suddenly become a good person. Women like you are very sad because you blame yourself and other women for the disgusting actions of men talking bout they allow it. That is so pathetic. Gotta remember… there was no social media back then! It was so very scandalous! My Theory back then was: Mary was pissed because The Stewardess flew into town and He Brought Both of Them to his house while he was at the studio. Mary was holding all of Her Emotions in until He arrived Home. I Read back in the Day that when He Received His Calling to Minister The first Pews in His Church were to remain open in Honor of Her Memory. Once a story gets started and when it settles it changes. I recall hearing about this I was about 15 years old, they said she was a married woman he was sitting at the table when she threw them grits on him and they said he threw her out the window, and "they" meaning the newspaper or news, and in his church he has a chair on stage that is dedicated to her, and also was no mention of a third person. She had a suicide note in a purse and having a third person how convenient. It's a good hobby to have keeping old press clippings.

@@MOLICIOUS69 That's right. Woodson was also married herself and felt like she was Entitled to have Al Green. Green also had No clue that she was already married nor did he ever think she would assault him by Burning him with Hot Grits. The notion and ludicrous theory that's being pushed on here that Woodson didn't kill herself and that a Man suffering severe 2nd Degree Burns nearly 3rd Degree on 60% of his body could somehow shoot and kill is Incredulous. The Whole Incident was Documented by Shelby County,TN Law Enforcement and Emergency Personnel on Friday October 18,1974 and mentioned that Woodson burned Green with boiling water and Hot Grits while he was Showering because she discovered he already had interest in another Woman a Stewardess named Carlotta Williams. Here's the thing the Documented Incident Report states: Woodson stalked Al Green having flew all the way to San Francisco from New Jersey to a Concert gig he had and by Friday the 18th, Woodson's Husband had tracked her down in Memphis telling Green that he intended on taking her back to NJ, not long after, Green's GF Williams showed up at his doorstep at his Memphis Estate. Green had grown suspect of Woodson and believed she was living a Double Life, so he had lost interest in her and was now romantically involved with the Brass Carlotta. Mary Woodson had snuck into a Cab with Green & he had allowed her to come to his Estate. He says, she just went Mental when she discovered Williams and at the point asked him if he wanted to get married, he told her "You're already married, your husband wants you to go back to New Jersey, I can't be involved with you, but we can still be friends". When Green attempted to check on Mary Woodson, he discovered she was in the Kitchen boiling Water, he asked her why and she sheepishly replied "IDK. But I would never hurt you, handsome". Green exclaimed "Wait, What?" He was confused and trying to figure out what was she thinking or planning. He then decided to go to his Master Bedroom and get Groomed and Shower, while he's in his Underwear brushing his teeth, she followed him and he saw her reflection in the Bathroom Mirror, she had a blank look on her face and was holding a pot of Grits and Boiling Water with both hands & without saying a word, she just hoisted it at him. He was in so much shock and agony, that Carlotta came running in from the other Guest Bedroom, a moment after that, they heard 2 loud bangs, Green suspected that Mary had taken her own life and her body was found in a side Room laying on the floor.

I don't know if AL Green did this or not. What I do know there was a time in the 70's when black men would beat their wives or girlfriends, I used to see this kind of behavior all the time. I remember they guy who lived in the apt above us beat his wife so bad he had an heart attack. She was a gorgeous women, but what bugged me out ,she called the ambulance for him and went to the hospital with him. After he got out of the hospital I never heard him beat his wife again. He had beat her so bad I think he would of died if he ever raised his hand at her again. I'm not as old as that group of guys but I remember. They had some kind of pimp attitude about themselves. I can't say What Al Green did or didn't do. But if someone throws hot grits on you that may be enough to push you over the edge. I just wanted to ad that this beating she took was in the hallway as he made he walk up the stairs to their apt and continued. I looked over the banister as he raised his hand to hit her again , but he couldn't he clutched his chest and feel to the floor. He lived but he beat her so bad he almost lost his own life

@@beautifulempress6237 My Grandfather was an Abusive POS. He frequently beat and Date R*ped my Grandmother and would do the same with his Mistresses. One day in 1977, one of them, Ms. Mary got tired of it, so when he attempted to force himself on her, she fought back and shot him in the face with a Revolver. Blew his left eye out.
