Having listened to the full story, this man is a saint. What him and his wife have done is very noble. He's giving both his own daughter and Harper a great example of what a good man/husband/father is. He deserves all the best in life.

Seriously op is an absolute saint of a person. Even while feeling frustrated with the circumstances he's absolutely done everything he could for his wife and daughters friends. He never let poor harper suffer for her parents mistakes and he's just a real stand up guy and a terrific father... I pray this man has all the best life has to offer and everything good comes his way😭

In my culture op would be called Harper's uncle

Regardless of everything else going on around it, I'm gonna say good on OP for identifying the concern about Emma having 1:1 time with her dad, because it sounds like that conversation where they let her know she could ask for it was well overdue. Doesn't matter that she turned out not to need it - they couldn't have known beforehand *without* making the effort to communicate with the kid. Like, it is extremely admirable that they're stepping up for Jennifer and Harper, but it's also unfortunately something that parents NEED to be careful of in a situation where they're dedicating themselves to helping an external cause - that they don't end up sidelining their own kid(s) by accident. I think it sounds like OP was more sensitive to that potential danger in this case than the wife was.

Karma is real. It will come back to you in spades. As hard as it is be grateful that you are able to share your good fortune with someone in need. OP has given Harper a relationship that helps her to understand what love is. Emma knows that her dad will do anything for her. Both can trust him to share the love he has for them when needed. It is hard to Dad correctly, and OP has mastered it.

How come Harper s mother cannot even afford to buy her kids food? That too is too much for her? And the husband is AH for sure... Why in the world did they had a child in the first place?

Since Harper mom stated that 'we stay together for the child' comment, something tells me she accidentally got pregnant and was forced to marry her ah husband. And considering I've met parents like hers, they'll force their child to be an 'adult' but somehow disappear when their child is in danger and needs them the most. Or stick it out for the marriage. Once their child escapes the horrible problem, the parents come back playing dumb 'why didn't you contact us if you needed help' 😑.

Is Emma happy about it? If not, stop. If she is happy, try to continue if you can. There will be one more better person in the world because of you
