After seeing homelander saying it’s impossible to save a plane, I watched this to see a real hero do the job.

@@tvalokibatman6563 Yeah....I don't think Homelander was a fraction as strong as Superman or he likely would've saved them all and the plane. Homelander was driven by PR and having people love him above all else. He was being pragmatic when he said he could only save Maven. Sure he was a dick and was only good when it suited his ratings; but big PR wins were the only thing he really cared about in the end. Saving nobody vs saving an entire plane with hundreds of people? I believe that he would've saved them all if he could. That would've been huge for his image.

Some people have described the feats Superman can accomplish as "tactile telekinesis" 🤓 As in, when he grips something like the plane in this clip, he also subconsciously applies some kind of TK power that holds the thing he's gripping together. Because as Homelander said on his plane, strength alone just means you punch through the plane, not that you can grip it
This is right after Superman told Lois “Statistically speaking, flying is still the safest way to travel”

keep in mind, this film was made in the 70's. Airplanes back then were crashing a lot back then. Fast forward to the 2000, there have improvements to airplane safety. Unless you live in Africa or Russia, you really don't hear about airplanes crashing due to mechanical failure or weather conditions.

Statistically speaking, trains were the safest way to travel. They still are. It's just that planes are less likely to hit someone along the way. But when they hit the ground it's too late to pray.

1:22 Hands down, one of my very favorite lines in any movie I've seen.
Just realised Superman saved Air Force One. He wanted to introduce himself to The President to show him (and the rest of the world) he was here to help and not be a menace. Oh, and to save lives as well :-)

thats what he said!
How many things are wrong with this amazing scene 1) The airspace around AF1 is always closed. They are the only plane in the sky. The entire airspace is at their beck and call including runways. 2) the crew resource management in this plane sucks. One of the officers in the back would be navigating. Aviate, Navigate, Communicate. 3) No one pulled out a checklist. One of the pilots would be flying and the other running checklists. 4) 747s can land on 2 engines. Losing one would barely slow the plane down. 5) No need to tell ATC that the president is on board. If the plane has the call sign of Air Force one, the president is on board. Remember when Harrison Ford landed on the ramp and the Air force officer announced a change of call signs. 6) Air Force One isn't flying through a convective sigmet. They are going above or around. I still love this scene and Fly, don't look, just fly. I also love the first officer looking at a paper sectional.

I think there was a mistake with which side of the plane was hit by lightning, so they had to reverse the footage of Superman grabbing the wing(you can see his hair and the S symbol are backwards) so that it would match up with the rest of the footage, and that might account for the hand holding the plane switching from right to left.
"Don't look. Just fly. We got..... something. I ain't saying what it is. Just trust me."
Therrrrrrrrrrrres someman on the wing. SomeMAAAAAAN!
How many pilots and fight engineers does AF1 need? I didn't think there was room for all those people in the cockpit!

Yeah, I saw some behind the scenes footage years ago and it turns out that they accidentally made a prop for the left wing but blew up the right wing of the airplane prop. So to correct this the just mirrored the shot of superman.

Hey! We Have A Mandala Effect! CALLING ALL Boomers and Gen-Xers! Look at the plane's engines. In the old movie passenger jet engines used to be nicely tucked under the wing. But now the plane's engines here in this scene are OUT and FORWARD just like the majority of airplane engines are in the 21st century. Does anyone else keenly remember Superman being squarely under the plane's wing when he was flying to keep AF1 up in the sky?
