Superman III has the best flying effects, as they had really mastered the wire work by that point. It’s the traditional visual effects that weren’t too great, relying on a lot of cell animation. Probably didn’t help that the cinematography on the film was pretty flat and just the look of the film had that ugly early 80s look. Don’t know if it was down to the film stock or that a lot of the daytime scenes are either cloudy or completely washed out (to hide the wire work I guess). Compare with the beautiful cinematography of STM by Geoffrey Unsworththat has an almost timeless look. Superman IV was obviously a complete disaster, since it was basically budgeted like a 1950s B-Movie. Superman II gets a grade of Incomplete. Almost all the big effects shots are from Lester, who like Joss Whedon on Justice League was rushing to finish the reshoots and additions footage with an approach of “thats good enough”. The few Donner scenes line up with STM since it was from the same crew and shoot. The Donner Cut new footage doesn’t really help as most of it is CGI work on a limited budget.

The first hydroelectric worker's scream sound effect was used for Ernst Stavro Blofeld's hired helicopter pilot in _For Your Eyes Only_ (1981) and for one of Hugo Drax's perfect specimen soldiers killed in the space station battle of _Moonraker_ (1979). There’s a few shitty miniatures that don’t pass the eye test later in this scene. Specifically the town downriver of Hoover Dam which look exactly like they’re 12 inches tall and have a pitcher of water being poured toward them.
@PeachLover94
3 жыл бұрын
@@peterp2153 Those few shots after the dam burst where Superman saves the town from the flood were not done by Meddings, but by his understudy Brian Smithies. By the time those shots needed to be completed, Meddings had set off to work on the next James Bond movie _Moonraker_ leaving his understudy Brian Smithies in charge - which is why they look like they came out of a subpar version/episode of _Thunderbirds._ If another _Thunderbirds_ alumnus also named Brian - Brian Johnson ( _Alien_ and _The Empire Strikes Back_ ) - who also worked under Meddings and on other Gerry Anderson productions finished Meddings' work, then maybe there would be more consistency.

One of my favorite films of all time and very much defined my childhood, but it always bothered me that Superman goes to the trouble of traveling backwards in time and let's the second missile hit anyway. If you're going to travel backwards in time, you might as well stop the darn thing.

"Gee, it's Superman! He must have been the one that saved us!" 2:39 - 3:00 "Hang on Jim! Go ahead, shoot (camera shot)!" THIS IS WHAT IT REALLY MEANS to be a Super -HERO!!! Not kicking ass, beating up a bad ass, destroying cities, BUT SAVING PEOPLE, CARING for EACH and EVERYONE! Anyone can put on a crazy outfit and start a fight, but, it takes A REAL HERO 'to PROTECT those who cannot protect themselves', The motto of Marines. And to think there are those among us, that mourn the loss of fisticuffs in this great 1978 movie. With the exception of the Captain America movies and, the first Avengers Movie in which the heroes went out of their way to save people from the Chitauri, a threat the heroes didn't cause themselves, what OTHER Marvel movies or DCEU movies, have focused on saving people as the primary goal? People that depend on violence to make a movie 'great' NEED to LEARN what it means to HELP people on-a-daily-basis. Being a Superhero you have to start small. then, over the course of time, what's external build to what has already existed, internally. If the powers-that-be TRULY WANT to make another Superman movie receiving the same rave reviews of the 1978 movie, they must UNLEARN the cynicism of the past four decades, and embrace HOPE over so-called realism. 🙏
