The emotion Christopher Reeves portrays during the discovery of Lios Lane’s body was the most raw real expression of human tragedy. Marvel films haven’t reached for that next level of human expression yet.

Sitting in the theatre in 1978 at the age of nine, I figured Superman would get to Lois in time. Isn't that how this is supposed to work? Not doing the obvious made this film so much better. The scream Christopher Reeve lets out.... I'll never forget that moment.

Jesus is a Jewish story which made romans to a worldreligion. People save people, doctors save life's.... After 1000000000000 prayers, nothing changes... Because it's a story like Walt Disney movies. They wiped out the knowledge to bring belief in the foreground, the east roman empire needed more power, that's all !!!!

I don't think supes forgot to save her. If you remember shortly before this, Luthor had supes drowning in a pool with a krytonite chain around his neck. And he had already launched those two nukes. One to impact on the San Andreas fault and the other in Hackensack New Jersey. Even if supes manged to free himself, there would be no way for him to get both of them in time. But Ms. Tessmauchers' mother lives in Hackensack... so she made the decision to save and free supes only if he went after the nuke heading for Hackensack. She made him promise or she wouldnt free him. So knowing Lois and Jimmy were in immediate danger, he kept his promise and went for the nuke heading for Hackensack. Once he dealt with the nuke, he saw he was too late and the other nuke detonated on the San Andreas. So he didn't forget about Lois. He made a promise to Ms tessmaucher that he would get the nuke that was heading for Hackensack first where her mother lives.

Lex Luthor could be damned thankful that Superman's turning-back-time gambit worked. Since it was actually he who killed Lois, I think that it's safe to say that he wouldn't have lived to see the inside of the penitentiary otherwise. Superman's explosion of pure rage at Lois' death is one of the most chillingly convincing things of its kind that I've ever seen in a film.

@@sheridan5175 No. As we see in the fan Selutron's cut of _Superman II_ cribbed from elements of the Donner and Lester cuts as well as the other Reeve films, Superman rewound time to around the time both the Army and Navy XK-101 ICBMs were launched and hurled the Navy bird that was supposed to hit the San Andreas Fault into space but it detonated in the atmosphere causing a smaller earthquake and some atmosphere pollution. Superman expelled the pollution into space with his hurricane breath then saved Jimmy Olsen from falling off the Hoover Dam before hurling the Army bird slated for Hackensack, New Jersey into space. And the Army's bird is what ends up striking the Phantom Zone freeing Zod, Ursa and Non setting up the next film's events.

I thought that I would never again see that deleted 'Water' scene. It hasn't been shown in any TV screening of the Superman movie since the very first screenings of Superman back in the early 1980's, but I still remember it and wondered what had ever happened to it. Now I know where to find it on KZread.

You know when i watch this scene i always think to myself. Sure he reversed time. But isnt the earthquake eventually gonna come anyways?? Shouldnt he be like hey guys. On this day on this hour. Yall need to like not be here or there??

The movie is confusing. I'm not sure how far Superman reversed time. If things were reversed far enough, Luthor wasn't guilty of anything. Originally, the missile Superman hurled into space was supposed to smash the Phantom Zone window. But, after the time reversal, was that missile launched? I guess it doesn't matter, because the Eiffel Tower elevator bomb opened the Phantom Zone in the next movie.

  • @adamwong246

The time travel is due to studio meddling. Originally, Superman was supposed to go back in time to undo revealing his identity to Lois in Superman II. This is also why Superman has the inexplicable "amnesia kiss" in the sequel.

As dramatic as this was when I watched it..I realized later it was a bad precedent to set. It takes all of the drama out of the equation in the story going forward..because if Superman can do that to bring her back..nobody is ever really in danger..he could always just do that again.

Margot Kiddar and Christopher Reeve were first and foremost good and decent people. Even though it is a movie, it is still possible to feel that it is two extraordinary people, a kind of innocence and beauty that is not so much found today. I pray that there will be a desire before our God to have their rest in heaven, and we will get to see them in the resurrection soon!

I like some of the extensions in the 3 hour cut, but I don't like how they messed around with the musical cues. Like how there's no music as Lois's car falls into the fissure, or the start of the bit when Superman flies down into the gorge just ahead of the dam waters.
