Yeah that's the greatest downfall of Western civilization. The failure of men to uphold their strongest values. The failure of the father is societies greatest failure, and the continuous ridicule and resentment towards the father is only further propelling us towards its absolute extinction. It's why I dont watch new media much anymore. Too many horrible influences it's hard to even watch. This was the greatest Superman movie of all time, it might never be matched.

I introduced my 8 year old son to this a couple of weeks ago. And he said the same thing. He is not our adopted child. But, he attends school with several kids who are adopted. I was also stunned by his observation. Never picked up on that before.

Marlon Brando was perfect in the role of Jor El, he's not only one of the greatest actors of all time but every scene he was in, he made everything feel important to the way he spoke so calmly really carried so much weight. He truly had one of the largest presences in the Superman movie and really made the character feel like a peaceful and smart man.

There have been equals with other superheroes, but with Superman 2nd best is still way below artistic standard Richard Donner and Mario Puzo achieved.

I was a nine year old comic book nerd when I saw this movie. I believed with all my heart that Christopher Reeve was Superman come to life. 44 years later he's still the template, and these words of Brando's Jor-El still echo in my mind. I've tried to be a good person, and other than the understandable influence of parents, this movie was a guide, a directive for me to try to do that. I'm so grateful for the impact this character has had on me.

Rest In Peace Mom AND Dad. I miss you BOTH SO MUCH. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

What an iconic scene and speech by Brando. That's when everyone got goosebumps seeing him fly, hearing music, and cut scene to metropolis. Absolutely Epic. John Williams is just as much of the star of so many movies. Another legendary score. Maybe one of his best. Christopher Reeve the only superman period.

“How does a good man live? What is virtue? When does a man’s obligation to those around him exceed his obligations to himself? Now these are not simple questions” no but they are important ones. And ones all men should ask themselves as we need more strong, good men in this world to protect us and keep us safe. That’s a Superman 🙏💕

Brando's deleted scenes in Superman II were also epic. Where he tells Kal-el he must give up his powers, and he does so without consulting Lois. Then when he restores Superman's powers at the cost of his own existence as a memory-AI.

I remember first seeing this movie and this was the first ever scene to give me Goosebumps! This whole film is amazing. I am a big Marvel fan but without this film the MCU would not be the same or work as Kevin Ferge said this film is how a superhero film should be

This scene is amazing! It makes us mere human beings realize we are ALL just a small miniscule part of an infinate universe n beyond! Love this scene!

Entered the fortress as a young naive teenager, left as a fully grown man. One of my favourite, if not the favourite scene in the film

Marlon Brando.. awesome scene.. perfect man for the roll ..

The music, special effects and Brando’s peerless magnificence make this moment one of the most memorable in cinema.

I wish the newer versions of this scene with Jor-el, were even half as good as this first original version. Everything about it was well thought out. Jor-el, wise philosopher/greatest scientific mind of his vastly advanced planet... sends his offspring, the last surviving Kryptonian, to the planet Earth... so that he [and Krypton through him] might survive. He prepared everything, even pre-recorded the teachings of his home planet, as well as other civilizations and cultures throughout the 28 known galaxies. Answers to every question that Kal might ever ask. He prepared it all. And here... Kal-el learns the answer to every question he ever had growing up. "Who am I? What am I? Why am I the way I am? What is my place in this world?" The new movies don't come close to capturing this. They've forgotten how.

Young Clark Kent was portrayed by Jeff East, but his lines were dubbed by Christopher Reeve.

This part of the movie is just like Mufasa appears to say something to Simba like, " You are my son and a one true King. You must take your place in the Circle Of Life. Remember who you are." This is not the only thing that describes the part, its sounds like something in the Bible.

I love this Scene. Jor-El, "Speak !" / Clark: "Who am I ?"

I love this scene so much. From the amazing theme by John Williams [which I listen to almost every night], to the speech by Jor-el, to the look of confusion on the face of Kal-el from 1:28 onwards as he is finally gonna find out who he actually is, and have all his questions answered, all of it is amazing! Glad I grew up watching this movie.

The first time Superman takes flight in The Fortress of Solitude was the first successful flying test of Christopher Reeve and he purposely banked his body as he came close to the camera. Donner loved it and kept the shot in the final film.

My favorite piece by John Williams. Makes me cry everytime

With all of the CGI and special effects we have today, they cannot write a more beautiful and mesmerizing scene than this. This is pure movie magic. A total sense of wonder and awe. To write a scene like this actually takes heart, intelligence, and creativity....something sorely lacking today. This scene is actually moving. I rarely see anything I am moved by in today's superhero films. This is also the best ASMR ever. I wish this went on for another hour.

One of the greatest scenes in a great movie. Always wondered though why Jor-El told Clark he mustn't interfere in human history when his very presence on Earth as Superman would do that

Superman is more than what people say he is. A being of supreme intellect with the heart of a pure angel. He is an icon. A worldwide known legend. This piece of the film showcased that Superman is a phenomena, a mystery from the universe, a magical being of another planet with the potential and power for greater beyond our capacity of understanding. I can’t express how much I love Superman. We get enough Batman. We need more of this.

Mr. Brando's portrayal of a father is one of wisdom, strength but gentile leadership and thoughtful guidance; a terrific role model.

The Greatest Scene by the Greatest Actor of all time.

SO...this scene shows that Superman is the end-user of all the information and wisdom accumulated by Kal-El from the earlier 4 years in space and 12 years mechanically and possibly telepathically and as Clark Kent throughout his life as such. This movie was very deep on many levels but at the same time, at times didn't downplay itself but attempted to inject authenticity without the so-called "realism" bragged and obnoxiously displayed nowadays.

I hate that they try to make these comic book character movies "real" it takes away from the fantasy of the stories

I enjoy the biblical resonance, God sending/becoming the Son out of love for Mankind.

Yep, there are many other Christ allegorical films: dark knight rises, mask of Zorro, the matrix, terminator 1 & 2, torn legacy. You can also find little allegories in the Daniel Craig Bond films: Casino royale, quantum of solace, skyfall and Spectre.

It kind of reminds me of reading the book of Proverbs. I get the feeling this is how God would speak if he was talking to one of his kids. I've always felt that when he does speak to me that's what such warmth and kindness even when I felt and all to be in his presence.

I miss Christopher Reeve so. Okay, Brando too.

Marlon Brando is a legendary actor, actors like him are quickly disappearing.

Thank u for this , my DVD didn't have all this dialogue . ! When I thought it was epic enough,,,

Superman and Superman II were met to be one movie with the first being part 1 and Superman II being part 2 originally when Superman at the end of part 1 sends the XK 101 missile into space it explodes and effects of the explosion shatters the Phantom Zone nearby containing Zod ,Non , and Ursa and freeing them from their prison while he is saving people from the earthquake meanwhile the 3 villians are on the moon wrecking the lunar module and killing the astronauts .

"You are the only survivor of the planet Krypton." What about Zod, Ursa and Non, as well as all the other Kryptonians who were abroad?

It follows the comics. Originally, he was the last. Supergirl, et al (including the miniaturized city of Kandor) came later; and, to be blunt, cheapens the whole Superman mythos. The Phantom Zoners are an interesting story, but only as "those who must not be trusted/allowed to remain in the Universe." Superman's story is, by necessity, a noble tragedy.

Superman represents the goodness and strength in each one of us. He is an archetypal figure. There is a lot of symbolism in the story. Our origins are ancient and otherwordly. We've fallen and landed here. We are out of place in the natural world and in the animal kingdom. We have powers and abilities above them, and don't know where they came from or how it came to be. There were other attempts in our lost past, other civilizations that have destroyed themeselves through misuse and abuse of power. That is what Krypton represents. It also represents a much higher and divine origin. Jor-El is like the God figure, and his wisdom in crystal respository of knowledge are archetypal representations of ancient knowlege passed on to us in books and texts. "Who am I?" That is us asking the question, "Who are we?" or "What are we?"

If only we could all get a cosmic education like that...
