Little known fact...Geoffrey Unsworth, who assisted with cinematography on this film, also worked on Zardoz, another sci-fi film which came out a few years earlier, and in Zardoz there are similar crystals as those in Superman...coincidence??? Maybe, but odd for sure.

@@Boudosaved I haven’t seen Zardoz yet. It looks kooky. Sean Connery in that outfit always made me laugh. On the tv series “Stargate SG-1” the Tok’ra species had crystal technology that was clearly inspired by Kryptonian crystal technology. Clark Kent must've been walking for days to get to the frozen Arctic, directed there by the overpowering force in the special green crystal that he took with him and threw it as far as he could which made the Fortress of Solitude. He should be glad that no-one but him has seen it getting built.

In Superman II, when she and Lex first arrived at the FOS, Miss Tessmacher complains that she needs to use the restroom to which Lex replies, you should have went before we left, and MT quips that was two days ago. We know that they flew part of the way there in a balloon and made the rest of the trip in a snowmobile. It’s definitely a long distance on foot from Kansas to the North Pole. However Clark could run very fast and never get tired. He probably traveled to the fortress in a matter of hours.
One of the reasons Superman has always been one of my favorite Superheroes is that with all his Godlike powers, even he needed time to himself and it showed his humanity!

That bear in the robot chicken's universe took Clark's powers and became Superbear.
When it comes to the Romantic use of 'leitmotiv', Williams has/had no contemporary peer (Goldsmith and Bernstein were able, but made different aesthetic choices and didn't cleave to the strategy as much) - and I can think of no purer and more developed use than in the 10 minutes of the Fortress scene. What makes the score fascinating is that Clark/Kal-El/Superman are one and the same person, yet each is given a motive which are played against each other here, bringing musical comment to the conflict of identities in the character of our hero. We first hear the motive I call the 'Mystery' motive (associated with Clark; i.e.: his eternal sense that he is not quite who he has grown up believing he is). This is cleverly mingled with the 'Krypton' motive (associated with his true identity, Kal-El) in a challenge/conversation dichotomy. Later, when the fortress forms, note the brass stabs as the crystals emerge from the water: primitive and forceful, they offer a rudimentary statement of the 'Superman' fanfare. The entire sequence is base on the interplay of the three motives, meaning is depended by timbre of orchestrations, major and minor keys and so on. Note, even the (synthesized?) glass armonica in the Fortress - it plays a fragmentary 'Krypton' motive as if trying to assemble itself as Clark assembles himself as Kal-El. Just really wonderful stuff.
I love when they use this theme in Smallville
If only Clark's adoptive parents got to see his Fortress in the frozen Arctic. They would be very surprised.

To which country? They still need to determine on whose Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) Supes built the Fortress. The most likely candidates would be either Canada or the United States. If it's on Canada's EEZ, it would be on either one of the three Territories: Yukon, Northwest, or Nunavut. If the Fortress is in Nunavut, Kal-El would have to deal with the native Inuit who make up the majority of the population and run things in that part of Canada (They get rights to any mineral resources found within their territory).

Jeff East as Clark Kent heading to north to find out green crystal for fortress of solitude and to build arise and I hope Superman the movie in ps3
As Lex Luthor points out in Superman Returns, these crystals create new objects of mass. When he was going to create his island, his land mass was going to displace the mass of the USA. In this movie, Clark/Superman creates mass in the ocean. Therefore, he displaces the water. The ocean levels rise due to the displacement. That means global warming isn't responsible for the ocean waters rising. Superman is responsible.
