You obviously don’t know how trauma affects your brain, and her trauma began early. That was very insensitive. So I guess the men who were cheating on their wives, paying her for blow jobs and quick sex- did they deserve their fate, too?

This is why society must take care of its children. Not just basic needs like nutrition, healthcare, education and housing, but also child mental health. Given a different upbringing, Aileen Wuornos might have turned out to be a doctor, a teacher, a fighter pilot, an artist, a valued member of society, who knows.

Have any of you seen the full documentary that this video is taken from?! This video is clipped. Watch the documentary and see what happens. Once he hid the camera and Aileen was told he wasn't filming anymore you can hear her whispering that it was really self defense but she can't tell anyone. She said she was being tortured in prison and would much rather die. Also she fired her lawyer and defamed her character witnesses when they tried to get her off of death row. She was really desperate to die and sabotaged her own case. I think this all raises an eyebrow. Don't post clipped videos like this. This might be one of the most misleading videos I've ever seen on the internet about something so serious.

Watch the entire documentary. In her last interview she is clearly batshit crazy. Aside from having a classic case of "crazy eyes," she was also talking about how the prison was using radio waves and sound waves to drive her nuts in her cell. I think she even says something like "they were beaming ideas into my head." Sounds a bit like the inspiration for the REM song "What's the Frequency Kenneth." (+1 if anyone gets this reference) Gov. Bush needed to do to appease the angry mob and win an election in Florida. As a consequence, I think we put a schizophrenic person to death.

Misleading? But this makes her look like a much more decent person than she looks in almost any other clip. This is a clip of someone who has committed horrible crimes apologizing and coming clean for doing it. To think that the denials and the ranting and the raving she did was really what we should remember her by - that's extremely sad. I feel like it would be a service to her if this was how people remembered her instead. Most of the time the things she said were outrageous and hyperbolic if they made sense at all.

So you think that if she were schizophrenic, it would mean that she couldn't feel sorry for what she'd done? The two things are not mutually exclusive. And why would anyone want to coerce her into saying decent things for once? I just don't think you're doing her any great service by trying to drum up the idea that her being sorry for her crimes was just part of her delusions. If she's actually not sorry about what happened at all, that would seem like a pretty good reason to put her to death, would it not? Does being schizophrenic prevent one from feeling bad about murder? This would be news to me.

Sociopathy is a term used to describe symptoms rooted in anti-social personality disorder. Which usually begin to manifest during childhood and early development. In general, the term psychopath has been used by the public to distinguish those who display a higher degree of maladaptive personality traits. These include a lack of empathy, dangerous and criminal behavior, and anti social deviances. I’m guessing this is what you were trying to articulate in your comment regarding Aileen. However, from a clinical standpoint the term is not used as a diagnosis. I hope that makes more sense. Edit: My apologies, I forgot to add that I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology. I usually never feel sympathy for killers, and I especially can't stand when killers use their hard life as an excuse for their crimes. But I honestly feel sorry for her. I've read information about the sexual and physical abuse she suffered pretty much her entire life, and I feel like if I had lived her life I would've gone off the deep end, and can't imagine where I'd end up. I'm not excusing what she did, she committed horrible crimes and she deserved to pay for it which she did. And I know everyone goes through painful situations and hardships in their life, and not everyone ends a killer or serial killer. But people need to realize that everyone reacts to bad situations differently. Some people succumb to the horrible circumstances in their life and turn into drug addicts, prostitutes, and killers/serial killers. And some people are able to rise above it and become productive members of society. Nevertheless no one is perfect and no one should judge another person for their life unless they've walked in their shoes.

I mean, at least she had multiple, genuine reasons to hate unlike Elliott Rogers who wanted revenge for being a virgin. What she did wasn't right, but the way people treated her throughout her life, I'm not completely surprised she went down that road.

No. You can't justify murder. She was perfectly fucking sane. And you know what, There was no proof of any of these alleged self defence's or rapes. So now we're all just going to trust what a murder says? And you know what, you go ahead and kill those 'johns' You'll be executed just like she was, because that's murder. I still empathize and sympathize with her at the end of the day. When life is so cruel, and you have gone through so much abuse, neglect, abandonment and oppression as an individual, something in you will finally just snap. I can’t imagine how much anger and pain someone would harness after living such a cruel life. She felt the world gave up on her, because it did, and she felt the need to take justice into her own hands, get her revenge. Take her power back. There has to be an outlet for such pain and suffering eventually, she just chose the wrong one unfortunately. Once you finally snap, there’s no reversing it. You’re never the same. It’s rare that a complete monster is born, they are created and are victims of horrible circumstances. I’m very thankful a majority of man kind will never have to know the pain and suffering that this woman experienced mentally and physically. I respect her for coming clean. Evil lies within all of us. She is correct about that. Sometimes being a victim or horrible suffering and circumstances can become a catalyst in allowing that evil to manifest.

I'm not convinced she was a psychopath; she was definitely more of a sociopath, as her environment as a child made her that way. That being said, she's one of the few serial killers you can genuinely feel sorry for. I feel like she was a battered and troubled woman who got twisted up and ruined by the world, and becoming a killer was the end result for her. She probably did have a level of empathy, but not remorse.
