I was raped at the age of 26. I am now 54. I was fortunate and had a loving family and husband who got me counseling and the medical care I needed at the time. My heart is so sad for this women who never had anyone care about her after such an ordeal. I pray for her Soul.

She was raped as a child and had a horrid childhood. Read up on it. Also, she was severely mentally ill when put to death. That being said, she was demo ic and accountable for her actions. Btw, over 1/3 of ALL are raped. Almost commonplace. Unfortunately.

Aileen Wuornos was a cold blooded murderer. She didn't do it because she was supposedly raped, or supposedly had a bad childhood, or perhaps didn't like the color blue. She did it because she was an ragged (drugs & alcohol) older woman angry because she couldn't make enough money as a prostitute anymore. Her motive was sheer greed - money to buy more drugs and alcohol.

@Der_Mantie That's because it almost always is, you could have been Aileen just as easily, in every human being lies the capacity to express the most deepest of love, problem is we also harbor the capacity to commit the most heinous of crimes against man and other creatures, while the circumstances of your birth and upbringing don't always determine who you become, they are a huge factor and for that give slack where necessary.

You obviously don't know the story at all. Mallory the first one she killed was in jail for 10 years for assaulting another woman and almost killed Aileen. He hurt her pretty bad with that tire iron so he got what he deserved. Some of those guys went to her with the intention of hurting her as they don't see a prostitute as a person. Not right what was done on either way but these guys hurt her and she lived in a world of constant pain is what led up to everything. Not an excuse but a reason. If they would have gone to her for sex and only sex paid her and left it wouldn't have ended this way. I live near where all this happened so I know the truth. The truth isn't always what you hear on tv.

Jaden Jahci Does empathy only come to people when they have experienced the very same circumstances? If that was true, then empathy would hardly exist because few people would encounter the very same life experiences or experience them to the very same degree, and we're talking about life events such as having an alcoholic father, being abandoned by mother, doing drugs and prostitution, having anger management issues and other thought disorders, being used by one's own lover for money, and being raped multiple times throughout one's life, etc. etc. There are not going to be too many people who would fit that exact description and are STILL sane enough to function as a rational and productive citizen that gets to serve on a jury whose members were randomly assigned through chance to preside over a case like Aileen Wuornos... Can they not empathize with her by just *imagining* being in her shoes? Do they really need to be literally raped in the ass to know how it must make a person feel? I don't believe they are that dense.

Reminds me of the cold bureaucracy of nazi Germany where peopele were also treated like this, simply as being a thing. A system which allows this cannot establish a civilized country.

A judge should always strive to put his emotions aside and follow through with sentencing in a calm manner but making his authority to do so under the law clear. A person convicted should never be sentenced according the judges anger or personal feelings. He is there to apply the law as it fits the facts. It may seem cold but he is not there to vent his emotions.

Fellow European, from Poland. Had the exact same thought. Glad that we do not have the death penalty. If Belarus abolishes it, Europe will become the first continent without it. Aileen should have spend the rest of her life in a humane environment separate from the rest of society (like a closed psychiatric ward). America is not a civilized country, imho.

the demonization this woman was run through I believe had everything to do with her being, specifically, a troubled woman. men don’t like women who talk about their pain, or show themselves honestly as victims of their abuse and their trauma. men don’t like women who fight back, and she did, constantly, with every ounce of her being. and so they killed her, to silence her and remove the burden on their shoulders that such an imperfect and traumatized woman could exist openly and publicly. how dare she be a product of situation. I too hope everyone involved has to endure the very same pain that she did one day. no one ever cares nor understands until it’s them. society needs an overhaul.

lol, I've been raped too on numerous occasions from my stepdad and one of my own cousins growing up but I don't kill people I don't know in retaliation of society for it because it wasn't the rest of the worlds fault. This woman was a hitchhiking hooker killing men who picked her up & all within a single year time frame. I don't personally believe in or support the death penalty because your just letting them off the hook early that way instead of making them live with what they've done for the rest of their lives like everybody else who their crimes have effected has to for the rest of theirs in my opinion, but she definitely deserved to be harshly punished for what she's done because one of those men she popped, Charles Carskaddon, was just straight up 100% factual cold blooded murder. Very possibly some of the others were too but we know at least one & he deserved to be justified. The only one who probably really did deserve it was Richard Mallory because he's the only one who actually had a criminal history police record behind him of sexual assault.

@ANTMAN what she did wasn't right by any means but the first guy she killed was a sex offender already and shoved a metal pipe inside her and raped her, beat her and was going to kill her. Society is too used to hearing about men killing so it's not as common to hear about women especially serial killers but unfortunately times are changing and more are happening and yes they should be charged equally. I think people are sympathetic to the fact that she went through a whole life of abuse, physically and a whole lot of sexual and as a woman I sympathize with that part and I can see someone just snapping and losing it over time. She was a broken woman for sure but don't believe the way the movies portrayed these events because they are factually wrong and just made it look good for the movies sake. I live 15 min from where she lived and there is a lot more to the story than what's been shown and she yes she made videos in jail of confessions but she was also being violated and tortured in jail so she said what she needed to to get by. Certain things will never be made public but her handwritten story exists.

You know, I feel bad for this woman. Her whole entire life, from birth to death, was just tragic. I'm not justifying or condoning her actions, but really it's no surprise that she turned into what she did. I feel that because of her upbringing and her experiences with the world, it left her so jaded and bitter that she just lost compassion. The only thing she knew all the way from a young age was survival. Everything she did was just her attempts to survive. That's what I believe led her to the murders. She's not your typical serial killer. At least I don't think so. Most other serial killers are severely twisted in the head, with sick fantasies and compulsions that led them to kill ex. Ted buddy, Jeffrey Dahmer. She did it for money. like she said in another interview she was in the robbing biz, she didn't thrill kill. She found that she made more money through this that just her previous "hookin". Now I'm not saying that it's ok or that I agree with what she did. I'm a firm believer that no matter the circumstances we are in, we have a choice. But this is just how I see it as to why she did what she did. When I watch her interviews, I can't help but think how different she might have been if her life and upbringing were different. And honestly, I think she had a lot of potential to be a really attractive woman. But the hard life she led really aged her. And some braces couldn't have hurt lol. But when I see some pics of her when she was younger, I was like wow she really didn't look that bad. But again, anyone living a life as hard as hers was would drag their looks down too. Just watched Monster, and it's crazy the similarities in feature she and Charlize Theron have lol.

it doesn't matter when we are born good looking or not. this is a totally different situation about a woman who was demaged by our society. according to her life, she left home at an early age, 14. if you were a boy or girl, leaving home at 14 would be an absolutely devasting time in your childhood. you are a kid ! anybody at that age must have felt totally traumatised at the age of 14. this is 2023 and even now society cannot even figure out the senses of human beings.

Besides the fact that her personal history got her completely fucked up, becoming a victim just as much as the monster she ended up being, I personally think that there's no actual justice in a death sentence; anyone condemned to the capital punishment would rather have that than spent the rest of their lives in prison (which is, in my point of view, the true and real punishment for someone who did some serious shit).

"Monster" is one of my all time favorite movies, but I don't get how people can suppose it's factual and even become Aileen-Fans. The screenplay is dramatically honed, direction and music are as manipulative as in any other motion picture. A movie, just as powerful, out of the VICTIM'S view would turn you all into Aileen-Haters .. so don't let yourself being manipulated, people! Every killer has a story, and most of them are pretty sad. No reason to defend Wournos.

Seems to me the justice system is wrong - a woman who has been mistreated, abused and rejected her whole life reaches the end of the line and decides to take to take some revenge. No-one should kill but circumstances beyond their control can contribute to a persons anger and frustration. She needed love and acceptance and a safe place and she had struggled with those 3 things her whole life - a recipe for disaster. One of the few killers i have genuine sympathy for. Whatever way you look at it we live in a very messed up, corrupt and inhumane world. RIP Eileen. x

The question becomes; 'Is it fixable?'...These terrible things have been going on forever. It's just that now we have 24/7 media coverage and through many different outlets. The poorest countries can get the news now. 100 years ago we didn't even have the ability to statistically measure these violent occurrences. If it has increased then it probably isn't by much.
