They were forever separated from their families in Africa and forced to separate from their families in the U.S.A. when sold. So Sad.

So very sad. My history class really let me down. This needed to be brought to light.

As much as I enjoy these shows , what stands out to me is how families seems to express a superiority when they find out that their family did not "jump the broom." It shows how we are still divided as a people. Not all families were fortunate enough to have such liberties and what make being married by white man validate your family's marriage any more than the act of jumping over a broom. So many of our folks have be brainwashed into thinking that anything associated with white folks is superior to our own ways.

it's in our nature to want to be better than our neighbors and peers. We're all bonded by that moral flaw. Survival depends on it, today as much as in the past

It is unfortunate and I agree with you regarding the validity of marriage. However to me (a white middle class person descendent of Coal Miners and Fisherman) I feel like it adds to the strength and endurance of slaves. In the Marine Corp there is a slogan “Adapt, improvise and overcome.” I feel like the example slaves set really illustrates this and it’s something that has made the community stronger. Again it’s not my story, but I feel that African American history is as important to all Americans as it is the founding of the colonies etc I’m proud to have a very diverse family on both my wife’s side of the family and my own and the ancestry of our entire family is incredibly important and fascinating.

Slavery has existed for a thousand years or more, even among African tribes, and astonishingly, slavery still happens today in some parts of the world.

Apologetic white supremacist BS, even global scholarships has said that European colonizer slavery was unprecedented in its operations. Even the Roman empire, paled, compared to 500 years of white supremacist puritanical colonizer slavery and native American genocide. Native Americans were also enslaved alongside the Africans and even extremely poor whites of the catholic faith.

I believe the prophet Hosea was speaking about his people 'the jews' would perish for lack of knowledge of God's will. However, great care was taken to remind the Jews of their past. To learn what God had done for them. God's people today will perish if we fail to know God's will. love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. ...

Those who could write had to write in a standard format. Think back to when you were in school and the cursive letters at the top of the blackboard. They were formatted, and as students, we were expected to copy that format EXACTLY.

When I see slave movies or series like these I wonder why God allow this? Then when I think how separated, ununionified, and so much in love with our oppressor like blacks are I see how foolish we are and I realize we as blacks don't have respect or friends in other people (whites, Asians, Indians etc), and this horror can easily happen again. We don't own anything (banks, land, or grocery stores), we don't have a leader (Dr. king), most black men refuse to be with black women or take care of black children, we have no black military etc. This series is sad our status quo 2020 is even more sad.

I wish that the black community wouldn't allow the church to persuade their feelings about gay marriage. Both have fought for that right. Too many of us have suffered enough to pass on the same bias to one another.
