It's just leftover racist one drop rule ideology and identity politics. Where any noticeable amount of black is listed as just black. There's so many people who are half white, and half black, yet completely ignore their white side due to this mindset. My thought process is we are all mixed, and I'm glad to have every single ancestor I have, or else I wouldn't exist. I can't hate black people, native people, coptic people, Turkish people, European people, because they all add up to be me. Go back far enough and everyone is related. Like every single English person are descendents of Edward II. Or Asians and Atilla the hun. We should do what your daughter does, get rid of listing your race, and just list your nationality. These racist definitions only serve to divide us. And a bunch of identity politics is working to further divide our sense of being one nation, which only hurts us all.

Exactly. Dna tests are a wonderful tool to combat racism and bigotry, because if you go back far enough, we're all mixed and would not exist without the others. How can I hate natives, Africans, Europeans, coptics, turks, when they all came together to create me? Like I have one native ancestor, it's barely 1% of my dna, but without that one person I wouldn't exist. This is why harping on historical grievances is toxic. Not only do we not hold responsibility of our fathers, but we literally wouldn't exist without all the wars and tragedies of the past. If America was never colonized, no American today would exist. If slavery never happened, every African American and all the wonderful culture they've created wouldn't exist. Literally every single person alive descends from a tyrant, conqueror, or slaver. All Asians are descended from Atilla the hun, same with Europeans and Charlemagne. The conquerors and tyrants are the ones who passed on their genes, and go back far enough literally everyone is related. So this is why racism and even dividing ourselves by race is stupid. Everyone should be proud of all their ancestors, not just focus on the one race they like. Every single person on your tree was necessary to make you, they're all equally important, from the poor black farmer, to the rich European king, to the native warrior and the Asian merchant. They're all equally important, and it's a good thing they all existed because if not, then none of us would.

I love this show... I'm Canadian, my father is white, my mother is from Ghana, her father was white and her grandfather was white. She is without question African by cultural background and race what then does that make me? I an Canadian born and (since my father's family came here in the 1600's) bread. I 'pass' if I choose I look southern European. I often get that uncomfortable 'what are you' question. Which is really rude FYI! I don't share the sense of 'blackness ' Americans of mixed race do... I lack the history of racial oppression. So I sit in an in between place waiting for the rest of the world to catch up to me... one day we will all be mixed race...

If she wants to know who she is, she should go to a KKK recruitment gatherings or a Nazi meeting of the same nature. While in attendance, she should mention that she is 17% white and see what happens. Of course, we are being facetious and strongly advise her to stay as far away from those groups as possible.

Hispanics DO have other! If you come from Spain, you are not considered a Hispanic. There are differences in acceptances in college application process. Cubans of Spanish descent and Spanish Europeans without any indigenous or African blood aren't t in same category as Mexicans. The white Cubans and European Spaniards are seen as being the oppressors or having enjoyed a higher economic status. Likewise, Chinese and Japanese are in a different category as Vietnamese and Laotians, who are poorer..

You mean Latino, Spaniard are considered Latino. Latino people are Hispanic, because they share Spanish blood and culture.

@@polishherowitoldpilecki5521 There is a pecking order! Pure Spaniards from Europe are on the top! Then comes the mixed races which are considered Hispanics! These are Spanish and Indigenous Mexicans. Then comes Spanish, Indigenous and African. At the bottom are descendents slaves and pure Africans. In the Americas, Caribbean and Pacific Islands, there was always racial stratification. This is why applications ask you if you are white speaking Spanish or a combination! People who are of European descent do NOT fall into the same economic groups as Hispanics and Afro-Hispanics. In fact they are considered the oppressors because they had economic and political advantages which many mixed race people didn't! In fact people of Spanish descent were more likely to be able to leave Cuba and Peru than people of color: mixed race Spanish, Indigenous and Africans. Brazil and Cuba are addressing this racism today! If you ever visit these two countries, you'll notice that pure African peoples are at the bottom of the social latter with the poorest education and jobs! This happens even in a communist country like Cuba, where most whites and white/Indigenous were able to leave because they had money leaving behind poor Africans of mixed race! Therefore, let's stop fooling ourselves about what is going on in thr former Spanish, French, Dutch and Portuguese colonies! There was racial stratification just like in the US! Mexico just recently had to apologize to its descendents of African slaves for refusing to officially recognize them as Mexicans and DENYING them education and medical services in comparison to Spanish and Indigenous citizens! Similar apologies are being made in Peru, Chili and Columbia! Meanwhile President Trump showed his racism toward Puerto Ricans by denying them held after a devastating hurricane and coronavirus crisis! You better believe that the people's affected on that island were mixed race Puerto Ricans!

@@polishherowitoldpilecki5521 Hispanic usually refers to Spanish SPEAKING people whereas Latino refers to people who are DESCENDANTS of Spanish Europeans! Currently, the term is used interchangeably for all Spanish speaking people of the Caribbean, North, Central, and South America. This is why people of African descent call themselves Afro-Hispanics, Afro-Caribbeans and Afro-Brazilians because many are not of European descent rather they are a mostly a mixture of African, Indigenous and Asian (Japanese, Indian and Chinese) descent with very little Spanish blood. Please remember the Spanish and Portuguese crowns along with the Catholic church had strict miscegenation laws until mixed race people became a majority. This is when racial stratification came into play.

My ancestors are Portuguese and Spaniard...and my parents were born in PR, even if their parents were European...they have always checked Hispanic, as I have.
