Also the big problem for me is, that there are far more, better and in depth or better say a huge variety of tutorials. For someone who does all the learning by himself it is so hard finding good tutorials for doing special things in affinit altough it gets better. Next things After Effects - as someone who starts with motion design and has ideas but does not know how to make them come to life tutorials are a must and there are simply a quadrillion out there for nearly anything in after effects and illustrator... Any ideas on that?

Literally the ONLY reason people, including me are jumping ship with Adobe is the price!!!! Even the errors they haven’t fixed for years would be forgiven if the price wasn’t so greedy!!!! For such an “intuitive software”, you’d think their “intuition” would tell them that greed is the #1 killer of business & relationships, hence why my “business relationship” with them will be ending ASAP!!! I felt like I was already getting ripped, but now just discovered when my latest payment bounced that they’ve put up my CC subscription by around $35 extra a month!!!!! Chomp one Adobe, I’m gone!!! Stop being so greedy & you wouldn’t have any truly threatening competition!!!! 😤😤

From a newbie’s point of view on PS vs ProCreate…I am a “mature” artist that has discovered the tremendous value of using them as an aid in creating my artwork. I had PS for over a year, my special introduction price expired, and I had no use for the many features…not to mention the learning curve. Canceled it, because I’m tired of everyone having more of my money than me. I’ve bought an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil & never looked back. The app was $12 🤣 I find little gems I didn’t know I could do with it from people like you, so thank you for sharing your knowledge…it’s definitely appreciated!

You are totally right, if you are a hobbbiest or an amateur its not worth it, as you can do with the copycats and the weaker free tools. But if you are a professional its more than worth its value to use the best software that the market can offer, and Adobe is the indisputable leader on making tools for creators. If you are a designer or professional artists and can't pay for a tool subscriptions, that is a sign that you are doing many things wrongly. If you use these powerful tools for work, $50 a month is really nothing compared to what you earn out of using them. if you are a proficient designer, illustrator, photographer, videographer or whater creative discipline you pursue it won't hurt to pay for the best tools.

It depends on what functions you are doing but there are some ways around a lot of what these apps do. I've found I can edit text in PDFs directly with Affinity Designer. As long as you have the same fonts as are in the PDF you can perform that function. I've got an app on my Linux machine for adding, moving, deleting PDF pages. As for After Effects, there are things within DaVinci Resolve that can do many of the functions of what it does plus there is the free app Blender which can go things too.

If you ever get directed to their community page on Adobe, they will always shut the conversation down with the same old explanations. One of the more interesting defenses is that Adobe isn’t for mere “hobbyists.” It would give off the same vibe as calling smaller creators peasants. Others would say it lessens the competition pool and removes small time creators from playing on the same field as bigger companies(it’s implied as a good thing by these weirdos). One things for sure, there will be a time when 1 or more companies create a similar service that is better and far more affordable to finally blow Adobe’s monopoly out of the water. When getting CC teams is literally more than some people’s rent in my area, there needs to be a solution.

Great points and fully agree. There are so many much better alternatives out there. Right now Adobe is dominating the professional category filled with older millennials, but the younger generation is growing up on better alternatives. Once they grow up, reach the workforce and make decisions about software being used in companies, Adobe will loose their cashcow.

My brother is looking into learning video editing and I set up a student account for him since he's still in school. I was trying to learn about what each application does and noticed a lot of the negative feedback about adobes payment system. I would like to know if the issue for a lot of you is the monthly subscription or a quality issue? I will only pay $20 a month once the trial ends next and thankfully for me that's not a lot of money. I saw for non-students it's almost $60 a month for the same plan. Like is it really that much? Specially for people who use those applications for work. Like am confused any the backlash.

  • @jaywalkerpictures

The backlash manly comes from those that remember when adobe was not a subscription. But the crux of the matter is value - when you consider there are free (or non-subscription, one-off payment) alternatives that can do just as good as adobes software it really makes you question what one is paying for.

Adobe realized that their flagship products, GoLive and LiveMotion, were falling behind Macromedia's own products. Their solution: kill Macromedia. What's worse is that the Macromedia logos for Dreamweaver, Flash, etc. were superior to the ones that Adobe use now, with their 2 letter rubbish. I lost respect for Adobe since then. Now, I use Studio 8 to work on my gaming review website, and have been happy with it since.

@@katakis4525 I used Flash since 2000, very early adopter. I was sad to see how awful Macromedia was in their own right towards the end; their only updates were on the script side, there were little to no updates for animators - and as a result they opened the ground for Toonboom Harmony (another alt. to the Adobe AnimateCC app). When Adobe bought M, they rushed out Flash CS3 as a glorified bugfix - one of the best Flash animators I knew swore by it, kept using it - probably still does! Those old Flash progs, Macromedia v8 and AdobeCS3 were the fastest and most stable. Since then it's been bloat and bugs all the way. CS4 was a horror, 5.5 usable, but noticeably slower. I haven't used it in a while, and don't want to.

This is all very well, and thanks for doing all this research. But what about compatibility with other users? If you're using InDesign and Illustrator, you might need to send files back and forth to/from clients, and those clients need to be able to open and edit files before sending them back. So you have to be using the same software as them. So there doesn't seem to be any way out. I agree that the subscription amount is insane.

I haven't needed to share files like this with other people, but I have had to go from app to app to finish a project; for that to work, I just had to make sure the file formats were usable in all the apps I planned on using. Even "Adobe" file formats [like PSD] are compatible with the vast majority of related external apps, just because they are so widely used, so I can't see file sharing as something that would become an issue.
