If using the perspective tool is cheating, then so is using rulers and plotting points.

Perspective tool is never a cheat to any Artist. SKetch Up 3D is one of the useful tool for quick layout. Just that Procreate would be super headache and tedious to accomplish a complex projects when there's feedback from clients. You would spent more time in figure out how to merge items smartly more than creating later. For personal fun without modification in further, we could really create fun art with Procreate. And IPad Pro is the one to invest for more layers in Procreate. For long term learning prospect, Adobe Photoshop still secured a stronger choice for complex art project. Anyhow, i feel more comfortable workflow with Adobe Photoshop for longer hours. Personally, Ipad + Procreate maximum is 1 hour routine then it got my eyes strained, neck pain faster than working on a computer monitor. For the sake's of our health as a professional artist, bigger screen to work with is always one of the major concern despite the software comparison. Yea, the full Adobe Photoshop experience still haven't comes into Ipad world for so many years.

I have photoshop on my laptop and I hate the menu system. I'm getting an iPad and Procreate later today, and I can't wait.

Procreate reminds me of the old paint shop pro, before Corel bought it! Intuitive layout!! 👍🏼👍🏼

What do you do to avoid back and neck pain during working on Ipad, because when I was using Photoshop I could left the screen up and comfort my arms but I couldn’t do something similar with Ipad use

When I was in art college we had a guest come in who did environmental drawings and he had pictures of this big wooden rig he set up in his studio using rulers and chalk lines to get the right perspectives without having to put too much thought into it. The perspective grid is just another tool that has been innovated for digital use. I mean I don't wanna snap a chalk line across my ipad screen. 😅

This video is really helpful because I'm flirting with the idea of buying an ipad just for procreate. I use photoshop (because a one semester graphic design class required I buy a year of creative cloud) and it's pretty tedious for me to draw with. Also it kinda sucks that my drawing tablet must be plugged into my pc to run PS. Procreate might be easier to work with since it's more portable.

For me, the main "selling point" switching from PS to ProCreate is that I can bring my iPad with me very easily everywhere without any setup. PS layering is better, and you have heavy image manipulation that has some transfer to digital art, but I only use that 5% of the time, and without it I get to really hone my drawing skills instead- or even new ideas on how to do things. I love to draw, and being able to just pick up my iPad and pencil on a train, or wherever is just so much more intuitive.

Personally, I believe using the perspective tool it's an advantage. It helps your eye see perpective better. Now, you can also practice using it from the iPad & redraw that perpective in a piece of paper to create muscle memory & learn. Regardless of using the tool, there's a limited time we have on earth & do what we love. If that helps you create the art from your imagination, go for it, Jay. - thank you so much for your video

I've really been wanting to switch to an ipad and procreate now that my laptop needs to be replaced. But im doubting so much. An ipad is about 600 bucks than a laptop would cost me but i'm disabled and can't draw at a desk anymore and an ipad would allow me to draw in bed and on the couch more easily. The only thing i'm scared of is the ipad not going to be able to handle the big sizes of my canvas and artwork. Because i heard something about reduced layers?

If you do video editing, coding, 3D etc then I recommend sticking to a laptop/desktop. But if just for browsing the web, word processing, watching videos, then an iPad can replace a laptop/desktop. As for canvas size - RAM determines layer limit. Current M2 iPad Pros with 1TB or 2TB storage models have max RAM (16GB). For reference I'm on an M1 iPad Pro 512GB storage with 8GB RAM - My latest piece is on a 7000x2880px canvas, 300DPI and it's maxing out at 48 layers.

@@jaywalkerpictures now I don't code or do 3D stuff, i do some light photo editing, and just digital art and painting. None of which is too heavy. I also write here and there but i'm pretty sure the ipad pro will manage that. Ohh thats not too bad! I didn't really know what numbers we were talkijg about but thats more than okay for me to work with (I typically tend to fuck around and find out and draw on the same layers) Thank you so much for answering!

It’s so funny…I hate procreate 😂 I find it intuitive in the most basic forms, but for me it lacks so much when compared to Photoshop. And after using both I find they are not to be compared. Photoshop is much more than a digital drawing app and offers way more.
