I have yet to jump on the digital music train and still purchase all my music on Cds or vinyl. I do use KZread to find new artists and buy their albums, which is how I found you. Thanks again, & good luck with your Spanish lessons.

Kudos on your Spanish learning process, it shows you have put in the work and the fruits of your labor are starting to show. There is Yin Yang in most all things and if you've discovered that you are a slow learner you maybe find that on the other hand you are a solid/deep learner. For myself I feel like I learn slow too but what I've discovered is that my learning accelerates the more I learn of a subject because I am a deep learner.

It's great that you're learning Spanish. I grew up with Spanish as a second language (not fluent, but I do pretty good). I now have a "bucket list" item to learn ten (yes, 10) languages during my lifetime. NOT fluent... Just conversationally so I can travel to another country, find my hotel, order off the menu (without English), buy a pretty woman some flowers, and make it home alive. ;) P.S. I'm up to three now (I don't count English).

Hi Mary. First time I watch your channel, and I love your guitar playing skills, as well as your beautiful voice. I've been lucky to learn 4 languages; Spanish is my mother tong. You made a good choice by living in the country where you intend to learn a new language. From my point of view, the second best choice is to live with a native speaker of the language you want to learn. And, of course the most tedious aspect of language learning, learn the grammar from the best sources: grammar books. Mucha suerte en España, take care of yourself, and thank you for your hard work at keeping us entertained. Salud!!

The best way of learning a new language in an easy and natural way is immersion, going to a country where people use this language as their mother tonge and spend most of you time hanging out with native people. Living in Barcelona will boost your spanish skills quick, be aware of people speaking catalonian there though since it could be a bit confusing. Wraping up you are in the right path and you will be spealking spanish fluently sooner than later. Welcome to Spain by the way, I hope you feel at home here.

I used to join a weekly meeting in a café where German conversation was held, a great way to learn a language with helpful native speakers. Learning a language is easier if you are socially motivated to talk to people in their own language (like I'm doing right now). I have not yet found the spark to learn Spanish, but I will not challenge myself, I am not built like that ;-)

In 1998 I moved to Mexico. I didn't speak a word of Spanish. I spent about 2 hours a day for 3 months reading a grammar book and 501 Spanish Verbs (a most excellent book, as is its sibling, 501 French Verbs). Highly recommend them. But a lot of my vocabulary, I learned from music: Soda Stereo, Mana, La Ley, Luis Miguel, Jorge Drexler, and more... My technique was this: I would learn the words in Spanish. I would write them down and translate them into English. I would then learn to sing the song and sing along to it. This gets you saying the words. I might not remember the vocabulary word-for-word right away, but I knew what the song was about and very quickly, the words find themselves permanently locked into your memory. I just kind of stumbled onto this and it was just an amazing way to learn a language. My vocabulary exploded. But I loved the music and enjoyed singing along to it. So you have to find stuff that inspires you. You will end up with some words that you'll rarely use in conversation. Another side effect of this is developing an appreciation for a completely new world of music that's just as vibrant and expansive as the one you already know. I highly, highly, highly, recommend Soda Stereo and Gustavo Cerati (the lead singer, who later had an extensive solo career). They're extraordinary. His lyrics and their music is just amazing. You would also probably like Natalia LaFourcade. She's a Mexican singer/songwriter who is also amazing. Check out her Tiny Desk concert!!! I'm still finding great songs by great bands that I somehow missed over the years. Los Bunkers!!! I love them. I've been listening to them a ton this year... So much great stuff!!!
