    Hi - can i suggest you change your profile log. The one with your hat is a good picture, but for a small logo its a little too hard to easily identify it as you. The thumbnail picture of you in 'Collecting Wild Fish For Aquarium - INVASIVE FISH IN FLORIDA!' would be great one

    You should keep some kind of screening / netting over the tubs to keep out dragon flies from laying in there . Dragon fly larvae eat fish and fish fry , perhaps shrimp also .

    The pleco's seem beyond happy to be in that tub. As well as the guppy fishes. Lol the boys where already chasing. I would be surprised if you dont have guppy fry swimming in that tub by now. A lot of those girls looked ready to drop.

    Great to see you getting into Medaka. Very hard these day to find any in my area of England. I no luck yet raising the fry indoors and lost the first two parents when breeding in my indoor nano tank. Exhaustion or stress as it was daily?? However, I was able to find a Japanese lady who is raising them (I had to drive miles) and bought 12 juveniles. The first two mature ones spawned but those parents died day 4 and 5 after spawning. I read there should be two females per male but had no other mature enough. Not sure why because the water is fine for other smaller juveniles. I am waiting to see if this time I can hatch their eggs in a better set-up: large nursery tank with air. Also I am experimenting leaving 2 or 3 in my mini pond (out in an unheated garden room) over winter as I was told they can survive even if there is a thin layer of ice. Rarely goes below freezing in my area. i also started an indoor biotope in a very large bowl with substrate, rocks, plants like the Japanese do. I watched several videos from Japan. Since the 17th century they have done this. I love looking down on them from above amongst plants. I do small regular water changes as well with rain or day-old tap water. Great article on the Medaka care from The Medaka House online from Japan.

    Wild Fish Tanks We have a fair number of days 100+ in summer but not many below freezing in winter. California central valley. Would like to try rice fish but not sure it they can take the heat. Will use 100 or 150 rubbermaid tote. Gets fair amount of sun where I’ll put it. Will have to get it set up and see how warm the water gets. Maybe goldfish. Just plain old mosquito fish would be fine.

    I’m going to monitor it. The bigger tub will change temperature slower and it’s facing north with shed backing it so won’t get full sun as if it faced south. Also planning to keep them covered to also helpful keep it cool. They do fine in the garage in the mid-80s, hoping to keep the tubs no higher than that.

  • @WildFishTanks

    @WildFishTanks

    4 жыл бұрын

    Since the pond is a larger volume it won’t get as cold as quick but you need to test the temperature. If the water gets below 65F at night then I would not put guppies in. The temperatures need to be within normal aquarium temperatures for them. In my experience between 65 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit for most fish but there are exceptions

  • @Treyotto33
    @Treyotto334 жыл бұрын

    How warm do you expect the water to get in these tubs? I want to do some tubs of my own but I'm worried the water will get too hot in South Carolina.

  • @WildFishTanks

    @WildFishTanks

    4 жыл бұрын

    You definitely have to pay attention to temperatures and don’t want them to get any higher then you would want them to get in an aquarium. I said this tub up facing north with the shed right behind it so it will get sun but not full sun. It’s also a decent volume so it won’t heat up as fast and fairly deep. The best thing to do is choose a fish that is hearty and has a wide range of temperature. I expect my tubs to get to the mid-80s, the same as my tanks in the garage.

    I scoop them every morning. Eventually I’ll have fish in each of the tubs. Leaving that one empty right now so I can scoop and feed some fish in the cave to get them going 🤞
