Action Figures Disassembled: Cracking Marvel Legends Torsos

Ойындар

In this video I'm going to be cracking into a couple of marvel legends figures so we can all see how some of them are put together.
I also test out to see if its possible to get into the seams of a figure with a basic hand tool.
I hope this video is able to answer any questions people may have. If this helps you feel a little more confident when it comes to customizing or not customizing a figure then it was worth it.
If you find this video helpful I would appreciate a thumbs up. If you enjoy my videos please subscribe.

    As you can see in these shoulders are usually a flat disk that keeps them in the upper torso. If the body is a molded rubber like beta rey bill you should be able to pull them out. However if they're like regular legends then you'd have to crack the torso. Message me on Instagram or Facebook so I can see some pics and maybe help you out

    the House of X wave Magneto, does his arms boil and pop right up the shoulders or does the body need cracking? I just realised the arms of Skullbuster just pops off the shoulder, accidentally found out when the buck I bought arrived with his arms off.

  • @609collector

    @609collector

    3 жыл бұрын

    Honestly not sure. Most bodies don't have arms that pop out at the shoulder. They usually have a disk that keeps the shoulder in. Beta Ray Bill had shoulders that could pop out but that's because the upper torso was a solid piece. Baf pieces are meant to do it as well but not most regular figures. Unless the figure has shoulders that move back and forth on butterfly joints. Those shoulders can be popped in and out because the butterfly joints are made of softer material

  • @609collector

    @609collector

    I've seen it done on marvel legends figures before. If you get the shoulders in really hot water it should go. I would recommend a prying tool thats not to sharp so it wont damage the plastic or wrapping with a hot towel/cloth so you don't get burned when pulling. I avoid heat guns because I've warped plastic before but a hair dryer moved in circular patterns shouldn't over heat it. I still prefer good ol boil and pop

    If you can find hands that have similar pegs you most likely can. If a figure has pegs that aren't meant to come out you can boil and pop them. Once they're out you you can sand down the pegs. The thing is pegs vary from figure to figure. Even Spider-Man to Spider-Man figure. It may not be super easy to find new hands lying around

    Thanks for the video. I bought a couple of sacrificial figures to practice on only I used a hair dryer. I am trying to remove the jacket from the 3-pack Cyclops which means an arm swap. He is a BuckyCap mold so I cracked a Union Jack figure to remove his arms. As of right now I got them out and just need to find a matching blue paint for the Cyclops deco of the rest of his body. Only part I'm a little nervous about is doing a clean crack and snapping it back together preferably with little to no damage. I use a box cutter and an X-acto knife and a small flat head to pry it loose carefully only trying to get the seams.

  • @609collector

    @609collector

    4 жыл бұрын

    As long as you're careful you should be good. I would recommend getting a trigger clamp to hold the figure together when you glue it. Also a fine grit sand paper and sculpting putty is good to have in case the seams get a little beat up. If you're using a hair dryer just be careful not to make any of the soft plastic parts too hot. Fingers cang bend and warp and faces can get so soft that pressure from your fingers can deform them. I had this problem with a heat gun but a hair dryer shouldn't be as hot. Just be careful none the less. Good luck with your custom. Feel free to hit me up on Instagram or Facebook and send me pics of the finished product I'd like to know how it turns out

    The actual butterfly joints are soft rubber so you should be able to pull the shoulders out and put them back in. The actual butterfly joints are into the upper torso. Though you may be able to pull out the actual butterfly joints it may not go into the torso easily. If you're trying to swap arms you may have some luck matching them. If you want to change the actual butterfly section I've beverage tried to swap any. You can always try to mix arms and see how it goes.

    Dude, don’t take the next as destructive criticism it’s meant as constructive advice: you have to change the angle and distance you film your videos. All I got to see from the parts of the video I was most interested in was the back of your hand blocking most of the view. Maybe you can get a tripod that allows you to film a front view as your arms are hogging around it to manipulate the figures and always have them in the center of the frame and in focus, that has the advantage of letting you see what you are filming directly on the camera but the disadvantage that the tripod and the camera are now blocking your view of the figures and the work area and you have less space to move around and make delicate manipulations. Better experience for the viewer, harder to produce the video. You can also film the work area with the camera directly in front of you, and I'm not saying you have to show your face if you don't want to, you can shoot in a top to bottom view and only your hands will appear in the picture. I believe this is the simplest and cheaper solution to improve your videos, or maybe there are more creative ways to do it. IDK… Use mirrors…? Good luck, hope you keep improving. Edit: After writing all this I checked the video and saw it was posted 3 years ago. Maybe you already addressed my concerns and improved your technique. Sorry if thats the case.

    One of the main differences is that when the arms go in to a torso the joint is designed to compress as it goes in and expand once its fully inserted. This causes it to lock into place. That's also how it works on some of the torso thieves that connect to a crotch piece. Baf figures sometimes differ so drastically that an arm from one figure won't lock into the torso of another.
