I've been searching for a video that explains how to remove shoulder joints. Looking forward to giving it a shot. Any tips on how to separate the torso at the waist?

Also if you see this, quick questions.. will this make the figure loose and will it remove paint.?

No hot water doesn't damage paint. For making it loose it shouldn't. If the joints are tight to begin with you should be fine. If you have loose joints then you can actually stiffen them up in a few ways. One way is to actually use a certain type of floor polish and I've heard of using clear nail polish to add layers onto joints to stiffen them up. Like I said I've never had a figure get loose from popping apart. Mafex figures may be different with their joints so before you jump in I would go on Facebook and Instagram to look for custom groups. I know there are some that specifically deal with 1:12 customs. I would also google terms like custom mafex and see if you can get lucky and find some one with specific details in the line you want to tackle. Is it possible to remove those upper pieces from the hip joints? I've never gone this far into a disassembly, and I want to be cautious, but getting those bad boys out of there would make dying the leg pieces so much easier.

I don't think it can be done easily. I've never done it before or seen it done. They're too solid and I don't want to mess with it. I think they're two pieces heavily glued together

Are these built the same way as GIJoe classified? I need to replace a hip ball joint peg that twisted and broke, not sure where to get a spare and how to reinstall it if I did.

I want to paint and varnish a custom figure (using Vallejo model acrylic paint and Vallejo Varnishes). If I boil and pop them apart, paint and varnish the pieces, and go to boil and pop the peices back together, will this mess up my paint and varnish job doing this process to get it back together?

I am not sure. I can't recall if I've ever painted a figure while in pieces. I usually sand them then put them back together before I paint. Once I've done that I touch up any chips if they occur. I've seen people prime while it's in pieces but I don't know if they paint the figure like that. I can't honestly say what would happen but I don't think hot water would affect paint that had cured and been varnished. I would do more research

Say you've painted the disassembled parts and you're about to put them back together, would the same method work or would it mess the paint apps?

I would probably try a hair dryer for reasonably. I don't know how paint would stand up to water, even after it was cured and sealed.

Hey can you help me mate. Recently I got marvel legends destroyer due to the joints being stiff I putted it in a ziplock and dip it in hot water not the joints is all cool. The problem is whenever I shake the figure I hear the water waving inside the torso how can I remove that excess water that keeps bugging me because of the sound like a fruitshake

can you separate the torso from the crotch? I was thinking about giving the retro carded War Machine the modular suit repair to make it more accurate to the MvC2 art, but I don't know how possible that would be

Why do you boil the pieces? is it to help them stick together? Or only to make it come apart

It softens the soft parts of the figure and they're easier to move apart.

Thanks for this, man. I'm glad I saw this. The new shang chi has butterfly joints too. Do you think I can take off his shoulder the way you did with this deadpool? I'm planning to crack him open to get his shoulders off. But if I can take the shoulder without cracking the torso open, that'd be great. A newb here! First time doing a custom figure. Cheers!

If you just want the shoulder to come out of the butterfly joint you should be able to heat it and pull it out. If you want the whole butterfly joints you may have to crackc the torso. The shoulders should pop out of the butterfly joints easily if its hot enough. I recommend hot water so you don't warp any soft plastic

Could you put a link to your AOA Cyclops? That figure is exactly the reason I wanted to learn this.

Could you demonstrate popping the feet off of the ankles if at all possible?

Is boiling a fig with hot water directly out of the kettle safe for the fig?

@zUnknown_ I use an electri. Kettle and pour the water right on top of the figures. It makes them very soft. I've even run figures under really hot tap water and got them soft enough for popping off a head or a hand. If you're planning a kit bash or a custom job inlike to boil and pop. You could use a hair dryer or a heat gun but there's a chance you could damage a figure with too much direct heat in one place.

Dontou know if its very difficult to remove the caps/butterfly joints?

It can be don't if it's super hot you might be able to pop them out but be careful you don't damage them. The most effective way would be to crack the figure open and take them out that way. I know someone online said they did it that way with 🍕 Spidey.

It depends. I think it might work on cable I'm not sure about bishop. A while ago I did a video on the new beta ray bill. If the body is one of the bigger molds like beta ray and the diaphragm joint is a swivel that meand the upper body is molded amd solid. If that's the case you can pop the arms. Watch the video where I take apart 3 figures. It's long but you can skip through it.

I recently got a Power Rangers figure and the forearm is missambled. Should I do the hot water trick but only with that part? Or is there an easier method? My figure is brand new and I don't want to break it.

Neck peck are a disk with 2 nubs on the side. Watch the videos where I crack open figures. There's one where I open a Spider-Man figure and there's another where I open a couple at once. You will find them.

The disks may be different widths and the pegs may be different sizes. First I would see if there's a way to mod the heads to fit the peg. Maybe use blue tac to stick the heads onto the old pegs. I've swapped neck pegs before but there's no guarantee it will work 100%

That's not a boil and pop process. Everything I take apart in this video is a simple process involving heat and some pressure to separate joints. Everything else requires you to crack open the figure, meaning taking apart the glue that holds the hard plastic parts. The upper thighs that connect to the ball socket in the hips isn't really meant to come apart. And getting the hips apart from the requires opening the figure. Check out some of my videos on cracking or reassembling figures

What about figures with no butterfly joint. I have a wolverine wurh no butterfly joint and no matter how much i heat it it won't pop.

If it doesn't have the butterfly joint you have to crack the figure at the seam

I have a mystique figure that I attached a wolverine head to. When I removed the wolverine head the neck peg was still attached to the head. How do I get this off

I know it's probably a stupid question but... Can't you use a punch to take the pins out, like on a gun? I mean, after a quick google search I found that there are jewelry punch sets... Though maybe the plastic is too soft for that even at room temperature...

You can go to home depot and get a nail punch. They come to a blunt point that is about as wide as a peg. They'd be perfect

You can but heat guns can mess up figures if your not careful. They're hotter than hairdryers and can melt the plastic. Hands have gotten deformed, faces have had their features smooshed and I once left an indent on a thigh that got too hot. If you use a heat gun you have to be very careful. Keep it a good distance from the figure and don't focus on one spot too long. I saw someone melt the claws on a mezco wolverine with just a hair dryer so again be careful with heat guns.

Thanks for posting! My Sauron X-Men Deadpool’s legs rotate together when one’s rotated forward. From the few pictures I can find of that hip T joint, there appears to be a notch that keeps it from rotating. Can you confirm? Thanks! Edit: Actually, just watched your Juggernaut Iceman video and it looks like it’s a barbell with a square peg that plugs into the back piece. Its honestly not that complicated. I explain everything and I made sure to bring the camera up to show how to take apart joints. Every peg and joint on the knees and elbows is exactly the same. Newer Hasbro legends are just about the easiest figures to take apart.
