I remember back around 2012/2013 timeframe, I used to paint with a small group of painters, very skilled guys, Golden Demon winners etc. That little group, which had been a staple and focal point of the Games Workshop store due to the high caliber of paint jobs as well as painting tips, always drew lots of attention from folks at the shop. We ended up leaving that shop after years since, because we would use non-GW brushes on our GW minis, we were instructed we couldn't paint there anymore unless we used exclusively GW hobby products. The shop closed within a year or two.

For reference on Age of Sigmar talked about at the start, there were rules to do things like let out a WAAAAGGHH!! or raise a chalice and shout "For the Lady!" to get bonuses based on your faction. Empire got one where if your Mustache was better than your opponent.

I think the Skaven had a rule where if you rolled 2d6 and somehow got a 13, you'd win by default. And also be branded a cheater, albeit a very Skaven-like cheater.

God, the game was a mess then. Not only did they destroy the old world, they also gave us the dumbest, least thought-through game system they could've. I stopped playing Warhammer for a good few years after that.

The fanboy employees of GW, the ones that line up to drink the Kool Aid like a happy Labrador, are some of the funniest people out there... simping for a corporation that just sees you as a disposable, faceless asset is just pathetic. But damn are they always fun to wind up.

Man I'm so glad the manager at my local GW isn't a tit like in that story from Mac. He had a kid come in with his mother who was trying to get a colour match in paint for a model train project. Rather than turn his nose up he did exactly what North suggested and used that as a foot in the door to get them to play an intro game, do a painting lesson and they left happy with his train colour and a little AoS starter set.

Chaos isn’t “hard” to paint so much as it’s tedious and you got to accept it being tedious because the trim. You can spray them the metallic primer for the trim (generally easier to paint all the panels and clean up after) or go with the base coat and clean up the metal. Metallic sharpies can carry you if you don’t want to mess with painting.

Recent Mantic minis are super nice, and now that Mantic Vault is out, oh boy is it great.

First edition AOS was essentially a big fuck you to the Warhammer Fantasy players.

Listening to this a month after the fact; it’s interesting how available Leviathan still is here in Wisconsin given how scarce it is in the UK. Just about every lgs still has it in stock; one of them has a display stacked 5 feet high with them in the center of the store.

instead of made the order, what if they gave gamesworkshop shops really good laser printers so that you just place your order at closest store, maybe customize which mini and addons u want and so on.

I like the AoS army and combat rules. But the lore was horrendous.

5:04 I always hear or read about England’s problems (historical and modern) with the Irish and the Scottish but never the Welsh. Were the welsh just absorbed into the English?

Kinda? Wales was conquered for a long time with no real big rebellions as far as I know, so it kind of just became the status quo. "England and Wales", rather than "England, and the Conquered Land of Wales".

Wales officially became part of England by the Act of Union in 1536. It had already been occupied territory on and off since the 13th century.

Just me personally, if I hang with you and you mention that one time you tabled me every time we hang I won't be hanging with you much longer. I'm not a sore loser but that gets annoying, fast. I had a friend I used to play Destiny 2 with and after every single activity we did all he talked about was how much more damage he did than me, more enemies killed than me, more orbs of light, etc. And God forbid I ever did better than him. He would whine and make excuses like "my build just isn't good" and BS like that. I dealt with him for a year, but I just couldn't do it anymore

Speaking of playing a little meta/competitively I had to choose my army based on the one I liked most (DG). From there I picked the more competitive models since that way I get an army I like but also can play well with. Hobby comes first, gaming second.

I feel the same about Dreadknights, and it's another reason why I haven't started GK yet. I really hope they get them right with the update (whenever that happens) has no one managed to build their own from bits that looks better? Maybe even a 3rd party proxy. I know I've been forced to use proxies for my Vespid Stingwings, as the Citadel ones are fugly, and ancient.

I'd love a Grey Knights army, but they haven't had the update to make them primaris sized yet, have they? as soon as that happens, I'll start an army... and that's a promise. I'm sick to death of Chaos. I mainly collected chaos armies since the late 80's, so completely over them. I mostly collect Xenos now, but I do have a Black templar army as well. I definitely would like some Gk's though, as they're just so different. I was going to start a Deathwatch army, but I can't do another black Astartes army. Also painting metallic is pretty easy to do with a dry brush, they'd be a fairly chilled army I think (the hyper glossy nature of metallic paint makes it perfect for dry brushing onto a black base coat. Seen some awesome stuff done like this. The Artis Opus guy has a video where he paints a full knight with pretty much one silver and then does different effects with tinting and what have you, was great) PS: my Xenos armies are Tyranids, Tau, Eldar and Orks (although I haven't started the Eldar or Orks yet, just have a couple of things for them that are still boxed) I also mostly collect stuff because I like the minis, not for their rules. So the fact that Tau are a boring, gunline army doesn't realty affect me.

Castellan Crowe is primaris size (even if it hasn't happened yet in the lore) I think/hope each faction gets a range update as their codex comes out

Leviathan - like Indomitus and Dominion - should NOT be MADE TO ORDER ffs. They should be THE permanent Starter Box Set (with 2 smaller, cheaper boxed sets - tiered - as with Dark Imperium and Soul Wars). Drop the big £40 box and you Leviathan is a nice £100-£110 "Ultimate Starter Box".

I got a lot of Mantic Undead miniatures. Especially the Zombies and Ghouls were a lot better than the GW ones.

I have 80 Mantic zombies and 40 ghouls. I would say the thing they need most is to create new sprues to package with the existing ones to double the number of poses.

@@riolufan2249 Fair but I've learned to find my own fun with it. Takes me 8hrs to paint a model (I'm a perfectionist) so my Idoneth are full grey while my stormcast are immaculate. If I'm facing someone who also has a grey army I like to pretend this is just a flashback. If it's just one army it's due to either a new xenos infection or a curse of Nagaash and the opposing army must be eliminated in full to stop the spread

Got the 15 first Horus Heresy books cheap in a bundle. Very uneven but I still at least like, some are awesome. Binging for a few years right there. Expensive af per book, thus the Heresy ended for me with the last book of the bundle. For now. Hopefully only for now.

25:58 wouldn’t a fluffy blood angel list be like…a lot of jump pack marines? I harp on about how much I like jump pack marines a lot, but they can move 12” and they can get meltas and plasmas in Blood Angels.

Mantic/OPR do seem somewhat lacking in terms of rules... especially in alternating activation withn the turns. Breaks up the flow of the game too much at army scale. As for leviathan supply.... seems to be loads left in stores near myself.

Can't disagree more. I would say (with the exception of Kill Team, Warcry and MESBG), every Mantic game has better rules than every GW game. Alternating activations is something Age of Sigmar and 40k could really benefit from. It stops you sitting around for half an hour while your opponent takes their turn, and it also limits the ability for certain armies to just alpha strike you off the table.
