Robin Williams came into the GW store in Gastown (Vancouver Canada) back in the 90's. He was filming Jumanji and the manager of the store at the time came around to me and my mate who were throwing down and said "hey Robin Williams is coming into the store to do some shopping and I dont want any one frothing on him, so either pack up or chill." We were like "ok ya cool". Said manager proceeded to boot almost everyone out of the store. Robin and his fam came in wandered about he visited our table and chatted with us as a normal guy which made it even better. He played Eldar and so did I at the time and even used my swooping hawks for one round! Pretty rad for a 15 year old.

Warmachine 1st ed was great. Each army was unique. 2nd ed was good. But i quit shortly after. Then came 3rd. Nornally you play to the scenario with those points. But the added the "I win" button. Kill the enemy general and you win. Well when i got back in and had my first game with our local comminity leader. He pulled that stunt on our first game. I said "you're joking? Thats the new game mechanic?" He said yep! I said ok thanks ill never touch this PoS game again. Anyone stupid enough to think that is good doesnt deserve my money. Several months later i find out our local club was laughed out of a tournament for assassin runs. Because, yeah they won the game but got no senerio pointa and thus didnt move forward in the tournament. The new club organizer was furious because he had spent months trying to break them of that quirk. WM has been dead here for years now.

I mean, once you learn the game and threat ranges, you can make it super difficult to be assassinated.

@@richardrobb6937 You are not wrong. You could loose your caster in battle before and your jacks go off line. But your troopa carried on. This was more fun and less ignorant design. And there were so many mechanics i miss from W/H like throwing jacks and troops. And the like. But their bad prices, worse than GW, if you can believe. And that one rule made the whole system not worth it. Then if you got into the RPG it was a min max nightmare. So not worth the time.

@@apocalypsenow6559 fair enough. Definitely not for everyone and can be very competitive for sure. I was fortunate enough to build a community from scratch and nurtured fun. Unfortunately, privateer press is now garbage..

​@@apocalypsenow6559 hey, I do agree with you but assassination runs have been a legitimate strategy since the beginning of 2nd edition, I started just as 2nd came in and played all the way up until a little bit into 3rd, even playing competitively. Losing your warlock/caster was instant loss the whole time. There's plenty of reasons the game went to absolute crap, measuring threat ranges being one of the most frustrating in my opinion, but they never added assassinations for 3rd.

The hand I pocket , knee up with gyrating hips gave me flashbacks to my RadioShack days w manager trying to be the “cool” guy while upselling non wanted computer add ons. Oi. Good episode north 🍻

My three son's and I have been building and painting various WH figurines, vehicles and Mech's (sorry not sure of the proper terminology for all of them as I just help with them I don't play the game itself) over the past few years, yes we are relatively new to the hobby. I've done very well for myself occupationally and didn't mind splurging a little on something that my boys and I could do together and enjoy. We've built a few complete army's since we started and trying to stay as faithful to each ones color schemes as we could with in our skill and paint availability. This past Christmas we had a huge family gathering at my ranch in rural Montana and my oldest son was showing the figurines and what not to a cousin who was by all accounts a huge WH hobbyist. As I was speaking to a few guest my 12 year old run up to me and in a stressed voice said that the cousin had flipped out and started smashing all our WH stuff. I rushed down the hall to find my 17 year old son pinned to the wall and being punched repeatedly by say cousin who is in his early 20's. This was not going to be the joyous holiday many had been looking forward to, I grabbed the cousin in a rear naked chokehold and put him out. After removing him from the room I returned to survey the damage. He caused a little over 3K in damages in his jealous rage at what my sons and I had accomplished in three short years. And while that did make me mad I was furious he laid hands on my son who tried to stop him, his parents and two sister were similarly enraged, not with him for what he'd done but with me for knocking him out. They were given an ultimatum either he pays for the damages NOW and apologies for his destructive outburst and harming my son or they can all retrieve their luggage get off my property on their own accord immediately, maybe another family member will aid them cause my immediate family will not. And I will file a criminal complaint with the county sheriff and proceed with civil litigation for damages to private property. A few family members thought this rather unreasonable because he nor his parents could afford the cost of the damages, So my wife told them if they didn't like the decision on the options available to her relatives they were free to leave. They thought since I had done well for myself financially I could simply replace what was with new purchases on my own dime. Long story short they choose not to apologize, not to reimburse use the cost of all the items he destroyed and to leave. So I called the sheriff pressed assault charges as well as destruction of private property and had the cousin arrested and them escorted off my land all two days before Christmas. There are a few events scheduled in our region and I'm wondering if this is something that could happen at the venue, Will some random player decide my sons are "unworthy" as their cousin called it, to own specific WH stuff simply because they are new to the game and hobby? We've had some great interactions online in various twitch discord reddit and Quora chats with some truly wonderful individuals who helped us immensely I just don't know what to expect out of an IRL interaction and if violence is a possibility cause I don't want to expose them to that kind of toxicity if I can.

A saying in this area is, the biggest problem with 40k is the players, because of guys like the one in the 2nd? Story. I played a game of Warhammer Fantasy, about 20 years ago. Back in the days of herohammer, where 50-60% of your army could be in hero or heroes. I was playing Skaven he was playing Empire. He put his general on a flying mount. Had him wearing armor that could only be affected by magic items. Gave him a weapon that destroyed magic items and a magic item that located other magic items. See where this is going? He flew around the board destroying the items or troops that could hurt him. Then placed him in the back corner of the board and said. You can't win. Over half my army is my general and you can't hurt him. You can't reach him because I'll keep moving him out of your reach anyway.

Im with WarBoss here, yeah the local scene is here and the local meta is healthy, but there are no tournaments around. With the local GW on a temporary close (TBD) and no local shops stocking a healthy supply of 40K, Im looking at a tournament and picking up models 150 miles away. Big plus that I have big cousin joining whom is a long beard as well so see how that goes end of May

Acmech have the best looking flyers in the imperium. I love those ornithopter. The Orks have really cool ones too. It’s a shame space marines have really bad ones.

As a long time Night Lords player (1996), when I got back in to 40k late 6th ed/early 7th, Chaos was not in a great place, especially if you weren’t Chaos god specific. I switched to Heresy as it had the flavour of the old 3.5 codex chaos. Now, at the time most of my circle of friends were only interested in 40k, ( there was one guy, but he was THAT guy). We played many games of my 30k Night Lords vs 7th ed Codex armies ( Guard, marines, Admech and Tau) We rationalised it as a NL strike cruiser got lost in the warp and reappeared in the current (7th ed) timeline. No complaints from my opponents, granted they were all involved in the testing of the idea. Might have been a different story if it was Thagmata though… Mechanicum are pretty gnarly

I'm a model builder (gundam,zoids) and I've always been interested in warhammer but I've heard so much negative sh*t about the community or organizers I've always been turned off also the lore seems to be crazy overpowered this and that guess I'm asking is it worth getting into sorry for the long comment

That was a bad explanation of how Warmachine rules work, 2nd Ed Warmachine was soooooooo good. It’s an over simplification, on the part of the storyteller & they probably weren’t that great WMH players. Menoth into Assault Kommandos isn’t end of game before it starts. They sound like they didn’t know wtf they were doing tbf.😊

Weapons don't just do "fire damage", right? I didn't play second but i could have sworn you can still just attack into them with good success...or ignore them because they are a screening unit anyway. Or send in the dervish to clear them up! Lol. But yea, rarely would i want to cast a spell at them which seems like one of the 2 things immunity actually full stops(the other being caught on fire)

You and people I would never want to play with: Don't walk into a shop with grey models... Me: If you don't like my grey models don't look at them. If you have a problem wether someones models are painted or not. Well that's your problem not theirs. That's a you thing and maybe you need to stop and look at yourself on why you CARE so much what someone does with THEIR miniatures.
