    For those concerned about the layout I would recommend the DSO4104C instead, it is only slightly more expensive but comes with 4 channels. Probably they are using the same front plastic frame, that is the reason of the odd position of the buttons in the 2 channel model. The features are very similar, but with a slightly updated user interface. The early firmware was a bit buggy, so do not forget to update it. Thanks for your great videos and reviews!

    Yea you nailed it. The 4 channel version uses the same plastic. There is also a rare S model that has a signal amp in that empty BNC spot. I had ordered this scope for 245 but was sent the much more expensive MSO5202 instead and they let me keep it. So I used some of the 250 I saved to buy myself the fy6900 60Mhz signal generator. I really like the MSO5000 and it looks nicer and if I ever have the money I will buy Hantek again but the new 7000 series. Here in Germany Voltcraft sells the rebadged MSO5102 for 850 Euros so you can guess my surprise when I opened my package and saw the even more expensive version.

    I think as far as layout goes if you get used to it then it's no big deal. My personal complaint is the all in one package. Most of those are ok at several things but not great on any. I love your videos and respect your opinion and it's influenced a few of my purchases both directions. Keep up the great work.

    I agree, the layout of this 'scope could have been better. I would have opted to have the horizontal and trigger controls down next to the vertical controls, and the generator controls up next to the menu controls. Though the functionality is hard to beat for this price range. The more I use it the more I appreciate its capabilities.

    Great review, thanks! I just bought the newer DSO2D15, because of the features it has. I usually work with audio circuits, few hundred mVs. Now the DSO2D15 has a big flaw in that region: the triggering is really weak, I can't get a nice stable waveform at 400Hz, 350mV, anyways not with edge triggering. Using slope trigering makes things a bit better, but not way better. How is the DSO4102C in this regard? I still see it at Banggood for about the same price as the newer DSO2D15, and if it has a better triggering I'd rather replace my DSO2D15 with this one. Thanks!

    You should do the bandwidth hack up to 200 Mhz. Every once in a while they have deals on the 4 channel version for under 300. I think it was 235 Euros on 11.11 for the 70Mhz version and for a few bucks you can buy the 200mhz probes and hack the firmware. The 2 channel model was reduced to 178 Euros which is an insane deal.

  • @CollinBaillie

    @CollinBaillie

    The C series all have the function generator. The B series don't have it. The final digit is the number of channels (ie 4102 vs 4104) The middle 2 digits specify the maximum frequency (ie 4084 is 80MHz, 4104 is 100MHz, 4204 is 200MHz and 4254 is 250MHz) Basically the maximum frequency is the only difference, and that can be changed by a change in the software license, which has been proven to be alterable by end user. If you want the AWG, you have to buy the C variant to get the hardware. You choose 2 or 4 channels at time of purchase, to get the hardware. They're pretty much identical otherwise. Maybe the probes are better for the higher speed units if you buy the higher speed, but you can buy replacement probes which match, but maybe the pricing works out to be similar in the long run?

    For who ever can answer this question. I have always used analog scopes and I'm thinking about buying my first digital scope but I'm wonder if the probe ground lead in a digital scope is attached to the chassis ground: normally that means that the probe gnd lead can only be attached to a ground point, otherwise you be grounding any point that you attach the gnd lead to. I have always believed that when using a digital scope the gnd lead of the probe is "FLOATING" or it's not chassis grounded: this mean that you can connect this lead basically any where as reference regardless if there is voltage or not at that reference point. I have alway wonder how to referenced my scope to a none ground point on a circuit using these analog scopes with a ground lead that is actually attached to the scope's chassis gnd. Some times you must reference the scope at a point that has some potential and a floating gnd reference probe is perfect for this kind of measurements. Any one???

    @@learnelectronics Thanks for you fast response. There is hidden question there too I wonder if you can answer it: How to make measurements when a "none grounding reference or reference at a potential' is used? I believe that using ch1 as reference and ch2 at the measuring point (no gnd leads used), setting the scope to subtract/add math function, I should be able to take ungrounded measurements.
