After about 30 days of the no oils my hair got more hydrated during the wash day and using water based products I found my style lasted the full 7 plus days. I didn’t rewet or ‘moisturize it during the week but on day 4 or 5 I would shower w/o a cap to allow the mist to reactive my gel (botanical based) a little. To date, no oils since April 2019.

Monica Mitchell, I see that your hair is gray and so is mine. Do you still go without using oils? I like using oils because it just makes my scalp feel good and my hair feel good as well. I'm trying to use less gel do now because the length of my hair is grown down to my waist.

@@TandZAptLife yes, I still don’t use products with oils in the first 5 Ingredients (and that was difficult because a lot of the big brands use them). Initial it was hard because I felt oil softened my hair and I thought my scalp needed it. But after about 40 days on the detox the more hydrated my hair became the softer it was and the longer it held my wash and go style. I was out eating last week and a lady commented on my hair and I told her I gave up oils and she was very vocal about how she could never do the, so I understand people’s struggle with it. But it was a game changer for me. Being gray means I need to wash at 5 to 7 days to stay on a hydration routine and smoothing my conditioner and styler is key to tame the gray, it can be wirey if I don’t. As far as my scalp, keeping it clean and oil (or grease ) free actually feels much better, my scalp breaths.

@@TandZAptLife my hair is probably about mid back now and arm pit on the sides, Smoothing my gel all the way down to the ends insures it stays in style and detangling is easier. So I’d rather use the amount of product I need in order to keep a 7 day wash and go. I actually use the same amount of product I did several years ago, I figured out when using higher quality water based products water was the key and I used less products is needed. Good luck on your journey, I love to see more naturals stepping out!!

I’m living for your day 4 hair!! The shape was poppin! I don’t put water on my hair throughout the week. The more you do wash n go’s and leave the oils and butters alone, your hair will retain moisture better. In the beginning, I used to have to wash n go twice a week. Now I can get 7-10 days out of a wash n go. If your hair feels dehydrated, cowash mid week. Shampoo day 1, day 4-5 co wash (restyle), shampoo day 8-10.

Yes!! So I learned that I wouldn’t have to refresh after I recorded this video. For me it’s because I also create styles so I’ll go in with a hydrating water instead of adding more product. But I’m definitely excited to get to the point where wash and go’s literally last a week without necessarily having to be styled to keep going!!

Little ponytails all around your hair will help your wash n go last for day. Just do the ponytails so they lay the same shape you want your hair to when you take it down. this keeps it from shrinking and tangling and stretches the roots for length. Some people do the banding method but i dont like how that messes up the curl pattern so i stretch just the first inch or 2 of the roots with the pony tail holders

Look at you experimenting and learning your hair ❤️ it’s the confidence for me. Can’t tell you how to make it last, cuz I don’t lol I wash n go frequently. But I will say, my shape stays more consistent when I sleep in a scarf and I don’t stretch-humidity is too high for that anyway. In the mornings, I clip my hair into a high puff and let the shower steam loosen it up. Dry off, release the clips and shake it out. Falls right back into place each day.

I personally don't try to make it last seven or ten days. I will wash it just before it becomes super dry. Doing your wash and go in the shower will shortened the time it takes to do it. After awhile it becomes part of your shower routine. I too started to use less oils on my hair or scalp. Now and then i will do a hot oil treatment before shampoo. The only thing i do use is a leave in (has to have a lot of slip) and a styler. Oh by the way i have high porosity thick hair 3c/4a and dries out very quickly.

Btw when your hair is frizzy it is dry. Dry meaning the absence of water. Btw ur not supposed to spray water in it, that will create hygral fatigue, so there is no refresh it's not needed it's normal for ur hair to be dry I those days. The gel is a humectant which attracts water molecules. Water evaporates from hair in 4-7 days. So if you want to "refresh" your style u can co wash it the fourth day but on the 7th it still needs to be washed.

Have y’all ever tried this with lotion on your skin? I have and it’s the same concept: you teach your body not to make so much of something on its own whenever it’s provided artificially. So for instance, when I stopped using lotion my skin started to provide its own moisture. Personally I think these generalized rules/challenges are…not necessary or accurate for everyone to put it nicely. I don’t knock what anyone else does but I still just listen to my hair so I let her do her thing naturally but if she needs some help I help sis out lol. Do with that what you may 🤷🏾‍♀️

@@evacapri9769 wait thats interesting , personally my skin care routine is very simple , I'm inconsistent with it but all I do is wash with an unscented dove soap bar (its works for face too , it's gentle and it works for me), put Nivea cream on my face and then sunscreen ,I don't know if it's the best because I'm inconsistent and my eating and sleeping habits are not good , I'm dehydrated ,I touch my face alot and barely change my pillow cases , and its probably genetics cause just skin is decent , its bit clear its textured I have dark circles and a hyperpigmentation on my left cheek (its darker than the rest of my skin) , my question is what if putting creams is actually a lie and I'm only supposed to cleanse and put spf on ? That would be so strange I'm genuinely curious to know cause if I don't put it my skin gets dry but what if I do this many times and my skin gets used to it and start creating its own moisture?

@@danatekhlay6304 I actually have tested no product for two weeks I only deep cleaned my face once then for two weeks nothing but cold water washing and wiping with a clean rag and air dry and my skin was so clear and the oily t zone I usually have was never oily. It’s possible to balance it out idk why I stopped doing it but it did work but now since my acne cleared from what was goin on last month my routine is now very much just like yours. so yea it was hormones definitely I’m thinking I was probably pregnant or either my age and hormones are catching up to me. But now I’ve switched over to what you do exactly. I wash with dove soap seal my face with cool water then put a moisturizing cream on it sometimes a light oil like grapeseed and some sunscreen as well since it’s winter and my skin get dry. But I feel like the cream acts as a sealant and keeps things from getting into your pores so I would say as long as it’s working keep doing it. That’s crazy I’m doing the exact same routine as you now. Wow my face does get a little oily after a long day but I don’t mind it since it’s winter where I’m from and the harsh winds won’t ruin my skin.
