A Viking Church

In this episode I’ll guide you from Gothenburg by train to Skövde and then by bike to Varnhem and the Viking Church at Kata Farm. The excavation of the hill next to the Abbey in Varnhem started 2005 and continued for twelve years. The remains of a large Viking-age farming estate was uncovered including the remains of the owner was found in a grave in a crypt dated to the late 10th century A.D., which could make it the oldest Christian church in Sweden. The crypt which is one of few buildings remaining from the Viking-age and is today part of the museum of Kata Farm.
