A Timeline of Ice and Fire (Complete: Prehistory - 300 AC)

Ойын-сауық

A Timeline spanning from the Dawn Age to the dragonlords of Valyria who ruled thousands of years later and the Targaryen Kings of Westeros after that, extending to the year 300 and the War of the Five Kings. Based on the series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin.
**
Disclaimer: In creating this Timeline it became apparent many of the dates provided are educated estimates, as GRRM himself has stated he does not have an exact timeline. Therefore much of the work that has gone into organizing the events of these book chronologically was done by fans, primarily from Westeros.org
The Following Links will take you to the forum discussion and the document they have created. The work they did on this Timeline is absolutely incredible and they deserve much of the credit for figuring out many of the Dates covered in this video.

The Aemon we know was shaped by his years at the night watch and as a maester seperated from the politics of the 7 kingdoms. He has no training in battle or rulership. He wouldn’t even lived as long due to the stress of ruling. I’m not saying he’d be a bad king but he alone could not have stopped the fall of the Targaryen dynasty.

@@dingo1547 What do you mean "He wouldn't even lived as long due to the stress" no ruler in the history of the Iron Throne died due to stress, maybe you have played too much ck2, also he may have had a decent chance at being a good ruler due to his training as a maester. He could have stopped Robert's Rebellion if he hadn't taken the Black as he would have been King, and his brother Aegon V wouldn't have been king which means Jaehaerys II wouldn't have been king which means Aerys II (The Mad King, the King who caused Robert's Rebellion) wouldn't have been king, so yes, he could have kept the Targaryens in power the same goes for if Duncan hadn't married Jenny of Oldstones.

@@charlieparsons2406 I think what dingo means is that if aemon hadn't been a maester and took the iron throne, he wouldn't have had the oppurtunity to grow old cuz there would be so many factors to consider. As a maester of the nights watch, he never layed with a woman, never had kids, never drank because he's a maester. If he was king, he would have drank and layed to his heart's extent as all highborn people do. He wouldn't have lived past the age of 60 or 70. And with the rebellions in mind, his life could have been shorter.

George would never write or greenlight that. The Dawn Age, the Last Long Night, and other obscure mythological events need to remain muddied. It's what adds the mystery to the story. If it was all explained there wouldn't be a wonder factor that the reader / watcher could then fill in on their own. GRRM himself has said it about eastern Essos, Sothoryos, etc. It's to make the world feel larger and to add wonder. However, it would be interesting to see how they'd handle something like the Dawn Age. They'd really need to have a strong story and very good writing as it has events that are the foundation of ASOIAF.

Just watched an interview on him seeing his home(s) and theatre in Santa Fe, found out he's married, stayed humble, and helped out his community a lot, just seems to have loved the life he's lived. He's happy with what he's put out, and I for one have no animosity towards him for taking his time because it's my favorite series of all time. When people moan about Martin not coming out with the latest book I am certain they have only followed the TV version which I really love but I started reading these books in the early days and have been incredibly impressed that one man could possibly have just thought all of this up on his own. It is phenomenal and you can see why even a brief run on TV would not be able to explain all of the plots and sub plots and history. This is why they have focused on a few characters who aren't even that signifiant to the overall plot and who are fan favourites (even as we love to hate them). George RR Martin has a mind that is almost impossible to comprehend. When he says he writes without a script I believe him but also admire that anyone could accomplish what he has. When I first learned that they were coming out with the show on HBO I couldn't imagine where they would even begin. I think in all we have had the pleasure of watching the show and when people get tired there are things like this. The links are great as well. This presentation is excellent and I will be recommending it to friends who are wondering why the next book is taking so long. When we think that Martin is basically bringing this incredible story to a conclusion of sorts (who knows) we have to admire him even more. This would be like saying good bye to characters that have lasted in his mind for decades. For all I care HBO can run this for ten more years and I won't lose interest. I am eager to see what type of spin off they come up with. None are going to ever get this far into it but well done!

Read some of the original drafts for the books, they're so different it's difficult to comprehend they are the same story. You definitely won't think he writes with a script afterwards. In his original draft, Tyrion fell in love with Arya, Jaime killed anyone who opposed him and became king after Joffrey died, Catelyn Stark was killed by an Other, loads of massive differences like that.
