    I absolutely agree with you that Burma/Myanmar is an absolutely beautiful country. The people are honest, friendly and helpful, full of joy and the food is amazing. Unfortunately, the vast majority of innocent people of Myanmar have suffered for way too long through no fault of their own way back from notorious Colonialism. Speaking of ethnic and religious tragedies Burma/Myanmar facing today, the fact that the world's longest Civil War which is in Myanmar, mainly between Buddhist Burmese and Christian Karen (while Buddhist Karen are largely at peace) was made it possible, prolonged and supported by Anglo Clans of USA, UK & Australia, etc while they are using next-door neighbor Thailand (which has a defense treaty with them) as a base camp since in the 1950. In my humble opinion, ethnic Karen refugees fleeing the conflict/war in Myanmar are entitled to cross over to Thailand to stay, as well as eligibility to relocate to new places such as USA, Australia. Like I said, Anglo Clans of USA, UK & Australia, etc are using next-door neighbor Thailand, which has a defense treaty with them, as a base camp since in the 1950s; from which attack against China/PRC was launched by sending Chinese Nationalist (Taiwanese Kuomintang) forces into nearby Burma's eastern border closed to China in the '50s and '60s. In the '60s and '70s, using Thailand as a base camp, attack against nearby Laos & Cambodia were launched during Indochina war where several millions innocent civilians were killed. Like Anglo British introduced opium to China a century earlier, USA-led Anglo clans introduced opium/opium growing as a form of self-support to those Chinese Nationalist (Taiwanese Kuomintang) forces in Shan State of Burma in the '50s and '60s. You see that's how Burma became opium producer. 'Anglos caused most of the world's problems'. - David Cameron, former British Prime Minister 'Standard operating procedure for Sun-Never-Set Colonial master Britain was to divide and conquer the different ethnic groups in their different Colonies'. 'If two fish are fighting in a river an Englishman must have passed by.' - Native American saying 🤔 For simple truths, pls read the informative Ole Fella comment (on KZread) at, "Aung San Suu Kyi Exclusive Interview BBC''.

    @@cmonman85 Vast majority of good nature people of Myanmar, though still poor compared to the rest of Asia, are devout Buddhists and have a high treasured regard for their culture and tradition. With the opening of their country to the outside world, Myanmar risks the onslaught of negative unwanted foreign cultures; that it needs to shield and protect itself from, so as to keep much treasured and highly regarded Myanmar tradition, culture and religion. Moreover, Burma would have been much better off without Colonialism. For example, there's hardly any Muslim, Hindu or Christian in Burma up until Colonialism. I supposed it's fair to say that many of these tragedies of Burma facing today, such as racial ethnic and religious conflicts, started with Colonialism. Did you know Burma used to be a major oil producer for the British Empire up until the Middle-East oil boom in 1930. Burmah Oil Company was one of a handful of oil giants in those days. Moreover, I absolutely agree with you that Burma/Myanmar is an absolutely beautiful country. The people are honest, friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the vast majority of innocent people of Myanmar have suffered for way too long through no fault of their own way back from notorious Colonialism. Like I read it somewhere, Colonial master notorious British made Burma a province of India and brought in tens of millions of Indians/Bengalis into Burma as soldiers/servants for their own protection. The British looted all the resources from Burma. The British gave away North East India and Andaman Islands to India, Chittagong Hill Tract to Bangladesh. The British brought in Missionaries to convert the Burmese Buddhist population to Christianity, and destroyed Tibeto-Burman cultures while divide & rule/ divide & loot. The British discriminated against Burmese in their own land. "Anglos caused most of the world's problems" - David Cameron, former British Prime Minister Let me rephrase it, if I may; "Anglos caused most of the world's problems, including a heck of a hell lot in Burma". - first under the long and painful Anglo British Colonial era; - secondly, boycotted and blacklisted by Anglo West, as an impoverished nation turned to Socialism for relief after Colonialism. Myanmar has a sad saying that goes "A poor young girl got raped and got hurt twice", referring to their nation's double tragedies. By the way thanks for the informative multi-pages 'Ole Fella' comment at: "Aung San Suu Kyi Exclusive Interview BBC''.

    I heard that in Myanmar, there is a de facto independent state, called the Wa State, having it's own political system, administrative divisons and military, however it recognises the sovereignity of Myanmar over it's territory, which means Wa State is the only de facto independent state that doesn't recognise it's own independence.

    It's a complicated situation (with there being Chinese Wa and the Chinese supporting the United Wa State Army) but the Myanmar Wa not wanting to be a part of China. I think the current setup leaves them where they want to be. There are a few self-administered zones in Myanmar, each for a specific ethnic group that wanted more self determination.

    Hello, Burmese and history enthusiast here. You have indeed nailed all of the points and your pronunciation of some of the names were quite brilliant. Burmese history textbooks used in all schools in the country are heavily censored and they can be commonly be seen pushing for very violent narratives and mostly ignores the history of the ethnic minorities in the country. Access to archives are rare not only to foreign but Burmese scholars as well. Couple that with a heavily state-controlled media and it's a disaster waiting to happen. And it did happen in the form of the tragic Rohingya massacres. Videos like these are godsends that help diversify the Burmese people's view of history outside of the propaganda that is taught in schools; and in doing so help in recognizing and preventing more racial violence and ostracism in the country. Thank you. Of course this being a quick 5 minute video, I can understand you leaving out some bits for brevity. But Burmese history, like all history, is pretty complicated. It's easy to break it down into just the 3 kingdoms and everything else in-between the first Burmese people and the English invasion is just some "dis-unity" to dismiss. Which is a narrative that's being pushed by the military government in schools and I feel that it'd be helpful if the history of the ethnic minorities in the country could be expanded. And for folks who're interested, I'd also like to do my part in sharing some extra spicy Burmese history and trivia: (Burma = the country, Burmese = anyone living in Burma, Burman = the ethnic majority group) - Burma is diverse, first and foremost. With at least 135 indigenous ethnic groups living in the country. - While various Burman, Arakanese, Shan and Mon kingdoms documented their empires’ achievements by engraving on stone slabs, groups such as the Kachin and Karen people passed down their history orally, told from generation to generation. These oral records are windows to our past that will soon fade away if we don't work to preserve it. - The Shan, Chin, Kachin, and Karen ethnic minority groups as well as other kingdoms played key roles in the dynasty era too but are often not mentioned. - Burma played a role in WW2, and some Burmese guerrillas switched sides in the middle of the conflict. (Initially axis-aligned, cooperating with the invading Japanese to fight the British. Then allies-aligned after realising the Japanese only wanted a colony. And helping the British forces retake the country.) - Burma gained independence after the signing of the Panglong agreement that paved the way for it. Reportedly the representative of the Burmans that attended was so skeptical of the fact that the British were actually willing to give independence that he was surprised at the desire expressed by the British delegations to proceed with some sort of Union of Burma. - It was reputedly at Panglong that Aung San (the leader of the Burman independance movement) made his famous promise to the hill tribes: “If Burma gets one kyat [of currency] then you will get one kyat.” This promise has been subsequently cited by many ethnic minority organizations in criticizing economic inequality and discrimination on the part of the Burmese government in the following years of instability. - Burma and its people have been subject to the "divide and conquer" method both by the British (and the Military Junta). Case in point is that the British only recruited Chin, Kachin and Karen people into the local military. When local rebellions happened, these forces were sent in. Thus, Burmans saw the ethnic minority groups as a sign of colonial oppression, while the ethnic minority groups saw the Burmans as brutal fascists after the Burmans fought alongside fascist Japan-and against the ethnic minorities under the British military-in WW2. Thankfully, this kind of view has now been mostly forgotten in today's society. Sadly however, there is still some inherent distrust between groups. The military-controlled media and school curriculum doesn't help with this either. - Burma is the record-holder in two grim areas. 1. The longest civil war in history: The country that have been fighting the longest civil war: from 1948 and ongoing today; and 2. The country under the longest military control: from 1958 to ongoing today.

    Rohingya was not the only ethnic groups in Myanmar that was a victim of genocide. The military dictatorship only wants their ppl on “their soils”. The Karen and other ethnic groups are fighting the dictatorship, but it’s a losing battle since Burmese has way more military budget and has the support from china. Fun fact: the Myanmar civil war is the longest civil war in human history. This war is round 70 years of fighting.

  • @legoworthiness9684

    Because they actually use all three.They still use the metric system in some ways but we use miles and pounds mostly we also use our burmese system which is very prevlent in meat vegetables and other food items.

  • @bryanalexander2376

    @bryanalexander2376

    2 жыл бұрын

    Technically they adopted the metric system a number of years ago, but as lego worthiness mentioned, in reality three systems get used simutaneously. So for example you can find flour in the grocery store in viss, kilograms, or pounds depending on the brand. Another example is the highway having the speed listed in kph but there being mile markers along the road.
