It was the French, but it became less French since you had a third group called pieds-noirs. They were not french, they were Algerian born individuals. If the rest of the world can have immigration and children born in the host country, and be considered citizens and nationals. Then the pieds-noirs is Algerians just as much as a fullblood berber, the question of religion is secondary since we are all suppost to be the children of "god". NFL decided to raid Philippe-Ville and gouge peoples eyes out, gut women, dismember men and rape young women. That was litteraly the turningpoint of NFLs decision to escalate the war from a "liberation war" too a ethnic war. The NFL were not the absolute faction for born Algerians, and many were still making their minds up. NFL is not Algerian, it was just a opportunistic movement just like any other for people to join and back up, when they instead could had let time go by and gain school education and better housing location which was originaly the NFLs agenda. Now instead Algeria lost from civilized assistance, is in a big corruption and torn between indigenous and uindigenous factions of such as foreign religious fanatical factions maiming and killing it from within. If NFL realy wanted peace, tranquility and prosperity they should not had executed and murdered all of the opposing groups who was defending ordinary Algerian citizens against its inhumane raids and attacks during the 50-60s civil war. For you to think Algeria in anyway won because NFL was the last man standing is naive. You can not unite a nation without all its subjects, and the failed this especially when they murdered the Algerian muslim SAS, by forcing them off the ship with papers and then sliting their throaths on the docks 150m'ish meters away.

Abviously the history is twisted badly in a lot of ur details but i will focus about the french colonisation when u say french brought education and helth and bla bla bla i have a headache france just needed a reason to conquer algeria in 1830 after the othman empire ... Algeria was just the perfect country to start all the other invasions of africa in just 4 years after the invasion french killed half of the algerian population bc they found from day 1 a resistance and what they said about civilisation was just a lie to cover what they realy do just like what happened in every country in africa the crimes that they did are unforgatteble and we will never forgive them for it , they tried to wipe every identy left of the algerians and forced the algerians to be in the first and 2 nd world war and put them in the front line of combat killing innocent ppl , tried the atomic bombs in the sahara that ppl who lived there they still suffer from the consequences till today , and the list goes on and on .... I'm just pissed of , this world and it's politic always hide the truth and play the role of hero like we fucking needed the french in our life at that time or this time or any time 😡😡😡 and what happened in the civil war ! I garentee , u have no clue !!!!

Algeria had always been under colonisations and always won and fought for the freedom ! if the arab did the same they would be kiked out like everyone else , but it wasn't the case !! And u can't please everyone apprently some native algerians never liked that but in the same hand they are so ok with the french presence in algeria ! Two years (edited) The history of Algeria begins thousands of years ago, when the Atrian civilization was the first civilization in the Stone Age. In Algeria, there are also drawings in the caves of the Algerian desert that are more than twenty thousand years old, depicting advanced civilization, means of life, etc., as we have now! The population of Algeria is Amazigh, and they resided in Algeria many civilizations, namely: Before Islam: the Kingdom of Numidia and Mauritania, and they were in constant conflict with the Phoenicians, Byzantines, and Romans. After Islam: the Rustamid state, the Hamidian state, the Zirid state, and the Zayani state, and it was also part of the Umayyad, Fatimid, and Abbasid states. She conquered Algeria and spread Islam in many countries, the most important of which is Malta. As well as Spain and Portugal, which called it Andalusia and conquered it under the leadership of Tariq bin Ziyad, then Andalusia fell and most of the Andalusians returned to Algeria, and some of them went to Morocco and Tunisia. Then Algeria joined the Ottoman Caliphate and became the most powerful country in the world at that time until its fleet weakened due to the intensity of the battles with the Europeans and it was occupied by France, which occupied it for one hundred and thirty years. He was killed. There are more than ten million. The Algerians could not bear this situation, so the Great Liberation War broke out in which more than a million and a half Algerians died until Algeria gained its independence in 1962, and the rest of what I said in the video is true.

In fact, I too have been brainwashed by the Algerian "greatness" at some point in my youth. I was only ready to hear good things about my country and its history. Thank to critical objective thinking, I grew up to realize it's not based on facts, it just make people feel good. Algeria -just like most countries- had good and bad parts in its history whether Algerians admit it or not. At the moment, it's very confusing to be Algerian when young people are all expected to **blindly** pledge allegiance to the middle-east by protecting middle-eastern values like the religion of Islam and the Arabic language and considering them part of the national identity while in fact they are part of the Arab colonizers identity.

Seems like you completely ignored how much the algerians suffered from the oppression during the french rule, it wasn't just because the algerians wanted to rule themselves that they rebelled against the french, they didn't do that against the ottomans during 3 centuries despite the ottomans singlehandedly holding the power. Algerians were treated very badly and throughout the 132 years of colonization a lot of rebellions were made that resulted a total of 7.5 millions of deaths. Not only that but they were betrayed by France who promised them they would get independance if they helped them in WW1 and that obviously didn't happen and even repeated itself in WW2 and during the war of independance it's not just between 350 000 and a million deaths, that's a ridiculous margin so get your facts right, 350 000 was the number of officially engaged people in the forces of the FLN while 1 million (actually more like 1.5 million according to many sources) was the total number of deaths because not everyone was officially part of the revolution. So yeah you missed many important details and calling the FLN a terrorist organization is very disrespectful because throughout decades, the algerians tried to negotiate peacefully the rights of the folk like what the famous leader Messali El Hajj did. What the FLN did was the only solution after years, if not decades of negotiations from different parties.

This video is full of historical fallacies, in addition to the fact that it calls resistance by terrorism, and that the occupation of France is a transfer of civilization to Algeria, not the theft of Algeria's wealth and escaping debts.،Are you happy because it distorts the history?

When the Algerian Kingdom of Numidia existed before and after the unification of the two countries in the year 202 BC, and its capital was Cirta (currently Constantine), and it struggled with the Romans and the Carthaginians, and its rulers intermarried with the Pharaohs (the marriage of Clepotra and Yuba II), the Far Maghreb was merely an empty road for the slave trade between Europe and West Africa. As for after the Islamic conquest, the first state in the Maghreb that arose independent of the Caliphate in the Levant was the Rustamid state in the Central Maghreb (currently Algeria), and its capital was Tihart (currently Tiaret). After that, states followed, and the capitals differed, such as the Fatimid state, then the Zirid, then the Hammadiya, then the Almohad, then Zayaniyyah, then The golden period for Algeria during the Ottoman era, when Algeria became, thanks to the strength of its naval fleet, the master of the Mediterranean. For reference, Algeria enjoyed a high level of self-rule under the Ottoman Caliphate, which expanded over time to become the country a semi-independent province known to the Europeans as the Kingdom of Algeria. They sent ambassadors to it and signed treaties with it on a regular basis. Solitary. As for Maruk, it is the only region that has never ruled itself throughout history, as it was ruled by the Numidians, the Zirids, the Banu Yafran, the Banu Marin, the Wattasids, and the Almohads from Algeria, the Almoravids, the Shanaqita from Mauritania, the Saadians, the Idrisids, and the Alawites from the Arabian Peninsula, and in general, it did not rule. The lands of the Far Maghreb are any state or sovereign entity decades before the Idrisid state that followed the Islamic conquest. Also, as a reminder, the modern Morocco did not resist colonialism at all, and they gained independence from France on the backs of the Algerians, as France gave the Morocco semi-independence to devote themselves to suppressing the Algerian revolution, and the Marouk lands are occupied by Spain and to this day there are no men to liberate them.

To clarify : Berbers were in no ways slaves to Phoenicians, if anything, slavery worked both ways. It is even said that Phoenician assimilated into Berber culture, even speaking various dialects of Berber languages. As for the Turks, they never ruled over Algiers. Algiers *asked* to be integrated into the Ottoman empire hoping to receive military support in defending Oran against the Spanish. Algiers continued being part of the Ottoman empire as an independent state, and the Sublime Porte only had spiritual authority on Algiers (just like the pope had spiritual authority on the Holy Roman Empire). In fact, Algiers was even known for attacking Ottoman ships, despite being part of the Ottoman empire itself.

The Barbary "pirates" part is false and not accurate, I don't think your sources are from James McDougall. First the word pirates was never used during that time, treaties were signed with the Regency of Algiers and word Pirates to describe the Algerian Naval Force was a modern creation , but Algerian othoman naval forces would be more balanced or CORSAIRS may be. The Algerian Naval Force with the help of Barberouss protected Algerian shores from Spanish , Portuguese and French invasions. The slavery thing is a joke , some fraud historians mentioned 1million European slaves living in Algiers while the population of Algiers was around 40 thousand residents, doesn't make any sense. There was no sources or historical accounts of slave market in Algiers. One famous captive in Algiers was the Spaniard Cervantes ,who was a soldier in the Spanish Naval fleet. He was a prisoner of war captured in sea battle by Algerian fleet ,not a slave.

It is not written by a native English speaker and makes no mention whatsoever of the Sétif and Guelma massacre (1945), when even the French navy and air force shelled and bombed civilians on French territory. Instead the author falsely tells the reader that the violence began with the "first armed operations" of the FLN in 1954. The torture regime of the French also goes without mention and Gen. Massu is depicted as a man who only maintained public order. Later the OAS is merely "accused" of murders and bombings. This lying, disgusting, shameful rubbish has a "good article" rating on Wiki.

I'm Algerian and I'm not ashamed of our past as warriors and pirates, so I don't see a problem talking about that aspect of our history. But this video has huge gaps in terms of the French colonial era and the actual atrocities they committed. You can't dedicate one sentence to that when half the video is about Algerians enslaving white people (which is true, again, but not representative of our entire history).

It has been interesting to read these comments. I am Australian but have some French Algerian heritage. I am sorry for the colonial atrocities committed by my great/grandparents. I see the wounds of that occupation and hope your country can heal. I have no pride in that heritage.
