As a Czech living in Germany I always thought that Czechia is so underrated. Like Germans always brag about their beer culture and so many people here don’t even know how popular beer is in Czechia. I would love to live in the Czech Republic but sadly I don’t really agree with their politics at the moment. I really love my roots which are Czech and Italian literally the most beautiful places on earth imo with two really great cuisines (I’m tending to the Czech one lol). Beautiful languages and rich history. I will try to not loose my roots and to teach my kids as much as possible about it Man I wrote unnecessary things here 🥲

The Germans didn't take control of the Czech Republic but of western part of Czechoslovakia!!! This german protectorate was called Bohemia and Moravia. The name the Czech Republic has origin in 1993. In 1969 the Czech Socialist Republic began by federalization of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. It means state's name the Czech Republic is a product of the communism.

You are right that Czech music contributed greatly to a reawakening of Czech identity in the 19th century but the central and founding composer of Czech music was Bedrich Smetana, his operas and his famous symphonic work "Ma vlast" were a catalyst for Czech political aspirations. Ma vlast was was a genuine statement cultural aspiration but it also became music as national propaganda. In Finland Jean Sibelius wrote "Finlandia" which had a similar role in the struggle for independence for that nation.

This is really well done. I just wanted to point out that the conflict in 1618-20 (the so-called Bohemian Revolt) was between Protestants (the Estates) and Catholics (the King), not Czechs and Austrians (as in the modern-day nation of Austria). The term "Austrian" (which also applies to the later "Austrian Empire") in this context means "Habsburg". Also, Czechia became the industrial powerhouse long before the creation of Czechoslovakia. And finally, the title of the video should rather be "A Super Quick History of Czechia" because the 30 years old name "Czech Republic" is hardly fitting for the medieval or early modern kingdom. Anyway, good job.

My direct ancestors (same last name as me so I'd rather not post their names) were prominent around Prague in the late 1800s-early 1900s, fighting for the independence of the Czech people. My great-great-howevermany grandfather helped circulate a newspaper regarding the subject, as well as writing for it. He had a few books as well. During WW2, my direct relatives were lucky enough to escape--fleeing first to France, then to the US--but the ones who remained were not around long. None of this matters at all really, I just wanted to explain sort of why I feel so connected to this subject. And I wanted to thank you, as someone whose family has been affected by the subject matter in your video. Excellently done. I'm shocked your channel doesn't have hundreds of thousands of subscribers. I love the CZ-75 as well. There are few reasons why I belive its one the the best choices for everyday handgun. 1st the protection of the hand - the small beak that is bigger than other guns and rests between thumb and index finger - you wont get any cuts when firing the weapon, even if not properly grabed in the first moment. 2nd is the barel cover (the metal piece on top, sorry cant remember the name) is acutally put inward into the body, which means nobody can take it away like on a glock for example and its much less of an option to destroy it by dropping it.

coz in school u slowly get all the unnecessary details and names and years pulled out of context, dry boring depth details even about private life of a person, instead giving whole story with main important names/century first, so the story of the country is forever memorized in kids age already. Once kids understands, they can even write essays etc, until everyone in class knows and can tell the main story in long sentence, short article or in the whole essay. Then next years u can start teach the depths. This way everyone will be able to answer eg. foreigners questions, while travelling or nomading, as history questions (or whole europe history questions) comes way too often during chat, if u're spending time with wiser ppl. Tho the video was still missing few important things and time given to some events was too short, while some others could've been shorter.

As a norwegian - who has also visited the Czech Republic - i was bamboozled that Franz Kafka was'nt represented in "litterature" @6:30. Even when i was there myself in Prague the tour-guide (who was very professional) saw it necassary to tell the audience about that the work (and death ofc) of Kafka. It is also not strange for norwegian highschoolers to either read "Metamorphosis" or "The Trial" as a part of curriculum in different subjects. May it have something to do with Kafka being a german-speaking Bohemian that makes him not "fit" the narrative of the History of the Czech Republic? For me atleast; Kafka, Charles IV and Nedved (all footballnerds that are millennials know) are the three first notable persons from the Czech republic that i thought of. Not to critique the content though; Awsome channel Mr.History!

I think it was more how Kafka viewed himself, as a German, not Czech, though he was born here. In school we were taught about him as a member of a group of "german-speaking authors born in Czechia" So there's that.

Czech language is very important for us, so because Kafka wrote in German, he isn't as important for us as Czech writing authors (some of which were also ethnically German, btw.). We still learn about him in school and like to read his books, though.

i'm always so suprised these history channels never mention the student protests when talking about the velvet revolution. it was a big part of it. basically students were marching on the 50th aniversary of a student Jan Opletal who was killed by n*zis. and the 20th aniversary of Jan Palach, a student who set himself on fire at Wenceslas square in Prague as a protest against communists. The students marching were cornered by riot police, asked to leave, couldn't leave because the police wouldn't let them pass and then brutally beaten and arrested. This of course angered parents and middle aged people joined protests against communism, almost full country strikes (75% of people joined), and the fall of communism in czechoslovakia.

@@chaotix7275 It is most dangerous for girls in specific "bad" neighbourhoods. After that, I think in bigger cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, The Hague, the atmosphere at the most popular nightlife hotspots/area's can get pretty aggressive. You will see 1 if not more fist fights every weekend if you go out and stay late. It's mostly specific ppl targeting each other and not random violence, but it does not add to a general feeling of safety. Both Krakow in Poland and Prague in CZ feel much safer :) I have spent 5 years in each, with Prague still counting :D
