A Stressful Flight to Canada, and Most Expensive Fuel | Episode 7

On this episode we fly from Nuuk, Greenland to Iqaluit, Canada. Enroute we encounter the challenges of radio communication over remote areas, and bad weather threatens us to divert. Canada also greets us with wildfires and the most expensive fuel of the entire trip.
In this video series I hope to offer a glimpse into the challenges of preparing and actually flying across the Atlantic ocean, navigating over the remote northern landscapes and vast stretches of water, and experiencing breathtaking views that only a small plane can offer. Join me as I share insights into the planning and execution of this flight, including the joys and challenges faced along the way. Whether you're a seasoned pilot, an aviation enthusiast, or someone who dreams of adventure, this video series offers something for everyone. I hope you enjoy this journey as much as I did.

I'm absolutely loving the series so far. Lovely aeroplane and what an adventure. I've flown around most of Europe VFR, the Atlantic is definitely a bucket list! The quality of your video production makes me surprised that you only have 1.36K. Thank you for taking the time to share it.

A very challenging trip which you share with a positive tone. I am impressed that you were able to video as much as you did and I keep wondering "How does he keep the GoPro batteries charged?". Very informative and it's been very enjoyable 'almost' experiencing this with you! Great job! [From a fellow Cardinal owner.]

How do you secure your airplane when she’s on windy ramps overnight. When you left it it appeared it was parking break only. I’m always looking for tie downs

On windy ramps overnight, I also look for tie downs. Most nights it was not windy.

Sorry we communicate so badly in Canada. I love Iqaluit, but it is dirty. Other Nunavut communities are better though, if you ever go back...

Yes, i did go back through a small community on my way back to Europe, and it was lovely. And even though Iqaluit is not the cleanest, i still enjoyed it.

Garbage on the streets in Iqaluit is a fact . Garbage on the streets in any country is an embarrassment to the city and to the country. I am Canadian . One of my dream trips was to Canadian North. I am changing my mind and will go to Greenland instead . Please watch episode 6. It is episode about Nuuk, capital of Greenland. What a difference. I think Trudeau’s government is failing Nunavut.

You summed up flying in canada in a nice short video, lazy customs agents who don’t pick up the phone. Crappy infrastructure with no radio communication. Insane fuel and FBO prices. Garbage strewn communities who rip off tourists at every chance. I bet you never once found a courtesy car to use at an FBO. Two pieces of advice. Buy a garmin etrex so your family can see your location anywhere. And overfly canada if you want a good GA experience. From a canadian pilot.

Thanks Bruce. I definitely want to see more Canada, especially the north, so I'll be planning another North America trip in the hopefully not too distant future.

This video seems a cautionary tale about doing adequate preparation and planning before venturing to remote locations. Making judgements and negative comments about life, people and costs in remote locations, based on brief visits and without social, cultural, or economic context, reflects badly on the commentator. This video reflects more of the pilot's individual bias and privileged expectations than it does the people of northern Canada.

I thought the author’s comments were fair and accurate and accord with this Canadian’s experience flying through Iqaluit in light aircraft. Expensive fuel, friendly people, disappointing to see litter everywhere, hasn’t changed since my first visit 25yrs ago 🙁
