A Storm of Swords - Chapter 68 - Sansa VI

From George RR Martin's "A Storm of Swords"
If you like what you're hearing, be sure to check out my channel, where you can find all of my A Song of Ice and Fire recorded chapters in order in playlists! And leave a comment! I don't care about any youtube algorithm reach nonsense but I love hearing from people who are listening!
I am in no sense a professional reader, voice actor, or what have you. I began this audiobook project some years ago when some friends of mine jokingly said they'd read A Song of Ice and Fire (my favorite fantasy series) if I personally recorded the whole series in audiobook form and sent it to them. Having now made my way almost through the first two books in the series, I decided to join the small community of people who post their own amateur audibook readings to youtube, and share my efforts.
I have no intention of profiting off of the work that is copyrighted to George RR Martin. This upload is a tribute to a series I deeply love, and I strongly encourage you to purchase these books. You won't regret it.
Also I should give full credit to my cat, Claudio, for the frequent background meows and purring sounds you hear throughout.

Sansa, I have noticed, has a very sophisticated wine palette for a barely pubescent child. Anytime she drinks wine she perceives like a dozen fruits and some poetic expression of how the flavor starts and ends.

Instead she picks the pear - a fruit that symbolizes femininity, fertility, and motherhood. In Christianity specific the pear symbolizes Mary and baby Jesus. In a lot of paintings that depict Virgin Mary she often has pear in hand. So for Sansa to reject the fruit that represents death and picks the one that symbolizes life, shows that Sansa will not only break free from Littlefinger but also will chose the path of mercy and justice, rather than treachery.

My favorite Sansa chapter. I just love all the details of Baelish’s plot. Also how he tricked the Tyrells into making Loras take the white instead of Tywin being the one to bring it up in comparison in the show. Also just Baelish teaching about the game and that Olena was in on it instead of in the show where they have a couple conversations about killing Joffery. 10/10 chapter

it is really astonishing how scary and eerie this chapter comes to my ears. although a great deal of naivty plays a big role in the charachter of Sansa, it is fascinating how sensual and constantly in touch with her innocent yet overwhelming emotions she is. although Jeoffry had put her through hell and she bared him no good feelings, his death was immensely overwhelming for her, where in my opinion any other charachter would just be "happy" or as with ones like tyrion relieved by the death of the cruel boy. he was the cruelest to her yet she percieves his death far more deeply; he did in a way or another become a part of her. what is most scary is littlefinger and his interaction with her; he takes more or less the role of the person teaching her how to handle enemies, where he had before shown her how to act around her enemies and the liars in king's landing; he still nonetheless treates her like a "piece" and tries to/succeeds in manipulate/ing her whilst at the same time manipulating Lysa. Lysa herself is also really spooky with her impulsivness and blind trust in Littlefinger. it is as well really sad to realize that Sansa was the most helpless of all the Starks and everything is chosen for her throughout the story with little chance of her taking initiative. in the show you never get the chance to see Sansa and her Charachter the way she is displayed in the books or at least this one. i am surprisingly finding her more and more interesting and your way of setting the scene, chosing the voices ( Baelish's is missing something in comparison to the voice i have of him in my imagination) and reading emotions out loud is absolutely magnificent.

Idk, He would have gone straight to Riverrun to rannsom her, and Catlyn would never let Sansa out of her site. If they arrive with Jamie captive I’d agree, and that might prevent the red wedding. but I feel like these two events happen too closely together, and Sansa would have been either married off to a frey during the red wedding, or killed with the rest of the starks.

Uhh, have you ever been forced into a situation where you could die or be tortured at the snap of a finger, if you said something someone didn't like? Huh? Have you ever been caught up where you didn't know who you could trust, where people have lied to you over and over again pretending to be your friends, then turned around and did horrific things to you or your family? I hate the way everyone thinks Sansa is weak and Arya is the cool one because she wields a sword and kicks butt. Is that all it takes to make a strong woman? No. Sansa was never trained in the use of swords like Arya was, so how can you expect her to fight off Joffrey's men? If Sansa had spoken her mind, saying exactly what she thought of Joffrey in front of him, he would've had her tongue cut out, or had her beaten, or killed, or all three! She couldn't just say whatever was on her mind like Arya does.

  • @illCMAC

@@hiswayservicesblog9288 I think a lot of people would say that Sansa could have killed Joff and/or herself if she weren't a coward. She could have, at any point, told Bronze Yohn who she is and escape Littlefinger. I didn't call her weak, I said she has 0 agency, because she quite literally doesn't do anything unless she's told to. In fact, she doesn't even think anything without being told to. The only thoughts of her own are related to fairytales, to the very last chapter of her story, she still thinks she's the protagonist in a song. But since you said it I will agree that she is weak. If Arya had the choice between dying or being Joff's whipping girl, she would have died. Sansa betrayed her house and suffered for it, her pov chapters only exist to tell us about the interesting people around her, imo.

And yet that nothing character has 25 chapters, several storylines that belong only to her, a training tutelage, and a character arc. I get not liking her but to say she’s barely a character is beyond stupid. Clearly there’s a reason why GRRM created her and kept her around for so long. She has a massive role to play. Anyone with a brain can see that.

@@illCMAC You can believe that as much as you want, that is your opinion, but don't be so stupid to say Sansa isn't important. George RR Martin has said she is central to the story (along with Bran and Arya). George has said they are the heart and center of the story.
