    Almost 4 months into my father fish aquarium experiment. 55 gallons. Cant find another square inch to put a plant. Everything is thriving. 3 sword tails 6 guppies are now TONS of babies and I didn’t even feed them for the first 2 months. After the population explosion I started dropping in live daphnia or scuds or blackworms twice a week. Zero nitrates. Zero water changes. Zero algae. I thought I gave up on fish keeping. Thank you father fish!!!

    Father fish rocks! I can't belive it took me this long to notice that "traditional fish keeping" is keeping fish in a sterile bubble. Fish aren't delicate... The way we keep them makes them delicate. Nature figured this out millions of years ago.

    I had never kept fish prior to finding father fish, so when I joined the fishkeeping community, I was a bit overwhelmed with all the different things for keeping a healthy tank, but father fish made it easy and efficient! I have had 2-10 gallons amd a 2.5 gallon for 8 months now. No fish loss, heavily planted, cultured the microfauna and used a dirt substrate with a sand cap. I cannot tell you how easy it is to maintain. It is so nice to come home and only need to remove the abundance of floatimg plants, trim my vallisneria and foxtail and top up the water. My parameters stay super stable and I only have to add a tiny bit of powdered limestone every so often to keep my endlers happy! I got all my stuff 2nd hand from FB marketplace, so all in for 3 tanks and a spare 5 gallon for a hospital tank, I'm in about 150$. My first fish were gambusia I wild caught, worked great for my fish-in cycle! Now I'm raising Endlers! I have ome betta in the female community tank with 4 kuhli loaches, and 2 albino Cory's in the male community tank! Scud, daphnia, copepods and snails culture in a 1.5 gallon fishbowl and i just 7se a turkey basters to seed the other tanks once a week with them! 1 assassin snail in each of the big tanks to maintain population control over the snails😂 as I use bladder/pond and ramshorns😂 Cannot suggest the FF method enough, this has made my fishkeeping introduction so memorable and exciting 😄 if you're a fan of real nature doing naturely things, then you'll love this channel and community❤ Thanks again Fatherfish and friends ❤

    That is my 20 gallon tank at 7:20. This was my first attempt at a natural aquarium and my first time trying an aquarium at all since I was like 13 (I’m 31 now). My tank has even way more plants since I filmed this and I rehomed the platys because they were having too many babies so stuck with just males. Also have a few more bettas in there now and the females all get along without issue. Thank you FF for your videos!

    @@mikefrost1312honestly I totally winged everything lmao. No clue what I’m doing. The pothos have grown A BUNCH as well since I filmed that (maybe 2/3 months ago now) and I let them grow into the water so it creates more plants up top to help break lines of sight between the betta fish. My water is also way darker now because I build a little cave out of some spider wood which let a bunch of tannins in the water. I can assure you guys I have no eye for design and not a green thumb so if I did this y’all can too. 😂

    Father Fish I saw in one of your videos when talking about parasites that you fed your fish fresh crushed garlic. I was wondering how often do you do this or could you talk more about feeding fish garlic for parasite/disease control? I am very interested and it kind of reminds me of some of the things chicken keepers do to deworm their chickens and ducks.

  • @eveningclicks7767

    @eveningclicks7767

    6 ай бұрын

    Some of the things chicken keepers do is feed their birds red pepper flakes and pumpkin seeds in the feed routinely to deworm. Parasites don't like peppers and birds lack the ability to feel the heat from peppers. There is an enzyme in pumpkin seeds shells that paralyzes worms causing them to come out/die. Also garlic is sometimes used in a certain dose for deworming as well. When I say deworming, this is before an infestation or problem occurs and not as a method after the bird is sick. Something stronger is needed if there is an infestation.

    I have just moved. I just opened up my book I bought used, read it when young, "Exotic Aquarium Fishes," the 19th Edition from 1966, by Dr. Innes. That book went from 1935-1966. Dr. Innes said a 10 Gallon tank can support "50 grown guppies each 3" long," he says the best medium to use is 2" of sand, never rocks or gravel, he talks about the different plants he uses. He did not use gravel, have all these newer rules, rather he is talking about the tank as nature, a living organism. The question is, "How did these modern aquarium rules get so far off the mark?" I mean, they are not even trying to make a natural environment? Maybe you do not agree with all of "Father Fish" ideas, yet why all the plastic, fake environment? Me, my fish die of old age, I just gave away due to moving, 20 Black Convicts that were over 9 years old.

I've lost most of the few fish I put in there as a starter. Please beware! It can happen no matter how much research you do and how diligent you are. I bought the fish from PetSmart, likely sick and inbred because the small aquarium shops died off in my area. I guess there is my problem... Sad day.

    @@FatherFish Thank you. I have joined but because I've been going through a lot of stress and the folks were giving me (correct) advice about my tank that I set up slightly wrong, I got frustrated at them because I couldn't handle the critique and felt like they're just beating on the beginner. I hope they can forgive me. My problem turned out to be my tap water and a pet store clerk who told me our water is "perfect for fish keeping" as is. Trust no one! Apparently our town pumps chloramine and between .25 and .50 ppm ammonia into the supply. Even with the added conditioner the water was ammonia ridden to start with and my substrate was a little leaky. Things that can escape the mind of a beginner. I've lost a handful of new fish and my will to continue, so I quit... Then I started over with spring water, inert sand 2+ inches over potted plant dirt with FF magic supplement and loads of plants. Now the ammonia stays at practically zero and other tests look good on day 2. The fish (6 tiny rasboras and one neon tetra who survived the Ammonia War and was accepted as one of the gang) are starting to relax. Call it dogmatic but there is no going around the correct method of setting it up. What a lesson!

    Great video Father. Thumbs up every video sir. Can you help me with dwarf frogs?. We have 2 in a 5 gallon. The one frog has a white fungus on his webbing of his legs and is starting on his hands. How can I get rid of this.? My daughter and I both love them, their so cool I hate seeing this. It just started.

    I've been watching father fish now and have found it amazing. I'm looking forward to starting my tank at the end of January. I have been wanting to point my nephew in his direction as he's trying to keep an axolotl. Any chance we could get an axolotl video. From set up to feeding.

    I have what is a sterile environment it’s a 20 gallon tall with gravel substrate. It’s currently doing fine ammonia levels are zero. I’m getting a 70 gallon soon from my uncle who doesn’t want it anymore. I plan on using your method in the 70 gallon and was wondering if using some of the gravel from my 20 gallon would work instead of the leaves or rocks from a local river or lake like you recommend? And if so how much of the gravel would be necessary?

    How do I add sand into a heavily planted tank? Should I pull all the plants out and replant once I’ve added the sand

  • @FatherFish

    @FatherFish

    5 ай бұрын

    You add the sand 1/2” at a time with a cup using pool filter sand. You gently tug your plants up 1/2” up and add the sand. I would advise you to remove your fish and other livestock prior to this as the sand residue could cake their gills if there is too much. I advised pool filter sand bc you can easily add it to your aquarium with a cup and possibly not disturb the water column if done carefully.
