I set up my tank 1 November followed father Fisher’s advice. The only thing I’ve had to do is wipe the glass rinse my filter and add water that was that’s it. It’s crystal clear the fish are loving it. It’s incredible thank you father Fish I now have a tank that I can enjoy and it’s so natural.

i collected the muck and water for my resurrection jar from a frozen northern ohio pond in janurary. i had to break the ice to collect it. its been sitting in my kitchen window for 5 days now. and as it warmed up it became full of life.hundreds of tiny swimming things in there eating and reproducing and dying.. the circle of life in my kitchen window. i cant wait to see what wakes up in my gallon pickle jar. thanks father fish.

He really is wonderful. He States the obvious which we have been so programmed to think that we have to buy all these different chemicals and change the water and keep the tank clean and he really puts it in perspective I am on a very limited income on social security retirement so when I found this guy I was so overjoyed and I wanted to hit myself upside the head I realize that I knew this why in the world would I want to keep changing the water my guppies love plants when I have lots of plants and they're always breeding. But my snails keep eating the plants but you buy new plants and they come with snails so I did a major clean up and got rid of almost all the snails I could see until I can put the substrate and the sand in right now I'm just stealing with large gravel but now that I know how I will get it right I have the substrate from him and sand from Amazon which of course I could have got any sand and just cleaned it but it was only about $11 I have a 20 gallon tank so it's not going to take that much and I can plant as many plants as I want and it will cycle and hopefully my one clown loach will be able to keep up with the snails. He makes me laugh I love watching his videos I know he's not trying to be a comedian but when he States the obvious it just makes me giggle

Either way the end results basically the same. Jmho.

Actually, fertile soil can become mud for aquatic plants such as lotuses. However, fertile soil contains lots of healthy food for fish to eat. Even though there are dead earthworms. The result is poisoning from the mixture of soil and water. But, from there grows healthy food for the fish to eat. From the soil there are silk worms, and water fleas for the fish to eat....

It is similar to when live rock was collected from the wild for saltwater aquariums. The majority of what you get is good, but on occasion people would have bad hitchhikers. Usually a hell of a lot larger than microfauna, like a crab or worm hiding in the many holes in the rocks. Can you put the jar in the aquarium early on as a way to cycle it? Letting the microfauna establish themselves and multiply before adding fish is my thought.

Genuine question from someone trying hard to learn. In nature water goes in and out of systems freely unless it's something like a stagnant pond, right? To have this nature inside an aquarium cuts off that flow unless we move the water. So we should be doing water changes still? If so, will that disturb the microfauna, which is better able to sustain itself in a larger body of water?

Pour some of the liquid, lesser amount for a smaller tank and a cup for a 55gallon, into your aquarium. Take some leaves and muck and place into the tank. Then add 3-4 leaves

In the summer of 1975 my dad did this with us. He grabbed a big giant pickle jar which seemed to be about a gallon and filled it with water and put it on the window sill and after a while all sorts of growth came out of it. We actually lived on lake mangonia at the time which was the drinking water for West Palm Beach, but I'm not sure where he actually got the water from

I am in desperate need of advice. I am now setting up a 40 gallon dirted tank. I will be using a sponge filter and I need to know if I should use sand or gravel to cap it? I know you generally suggest using sand with no filter, but I am not confident in my abilities to go without a filter yet. I should note: 😄 I never made a planted tank and I am a first time fish keeper, who decided to do a tank because I am overwintering my pond goldfish lol. I am tired of seeing them in an ugly Rubbermaid tote. Lol. I actually have the dirt ready, wetted and about an inch deep in the bottom of the tank and I’m just waiting to see how I should cap it.

Didn't work as well in my area. I had two jars from two different ponds and both only had hydra and planaria multiplying. Even after waiting a few months. Some snails too but my tanks already have plenty of those. I'd hoped for paramecium, scuds and other more desirable organisms. You had retracted your statement about adding muck before so it's not clear what your current stance actually is...

The problem with much was too many folks were putting more muck in their jar than the water could handle and they were becoming foul. Keep trying. It is out there. A small hand full of leaf mulch from a creek is best.

,2 months ago if filled my new tank with sand and water. The tank is almost 350gallon. I filled it so all my driftwood could sink. Short after i did that my son was born. Time flew. Now 2 months later i finally found the time to start up my tank. But as soon as i wanted to start with the hard scape, i saw big black spots in the sand. Black sand is like 2 inches deep. Is it rotting sand??? Feels so bad man.. its a crazy amount of sand if i have to change it.. i regret it that i filled it with sand already 2 months ago. What should i do? I used an hose on it and spread it through the whole tank to clean it. Should i change it? I think it appeared because the water was stagnant for 2 months. No filters or any movement. Will it disappear when i start my tank? Or will it keep living?

But im afraid everything will get bad now.. water parameters and bad roots for the plants.. dont know if i can start scaping now and setup my filter or if i should change 150kg of sand first..
