A Sketchbook From The Archives

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!
Today I am showing you a Sketchbook from the archives. Once I discovered the sketchbook habit (as in, keeping a sketchbook as a visual journal), a lot of things changed for me as an artist. The sketchbook wasn't just a place to dump ideas or for making sketches that then would turn into projects or illustrations. For years now, my sketchbooks are my journals, filled with little personal stories (one on each page), and together, they are stories of my life, of me.
Looking back at art from the archives can be really inspiring and fun. You'll notice how much you've grown and developed as an artist - and as a person. No need to compare even, but to just soak up the fact that you are allowing yourself time and space for your creativity!
I am currently in the process of making a book about drawing: Life is better when you draw it. It'll be in English and it's filled with motivation and inspiration for your drawing practice.

You are an inspiration! I've been doing some random art in my life but this year I am somehow getting serious about it. I just started following you and also I have stated my "serious" sketchbook journal... 1 page so far 😁. You are great! Kudos!

I loved this so much. I also “got hitched” in Las Vegas. Ours was at the Graceland Wedding chapel. 25 years ago this May. Wow! Cool to look back at such a wonderful time and I love how you documented it. Cheers!

That was so fun to see your first bound book of sketches and at a very exciting and special time of your life….marriage! Even though you have grown since then, you had great drawing talent then. I was impressed on what skills you had then and carried along with you through the years. I was very happy to see this!

Koosje, I just loved this video. So full of happiness and enthusiasm. Funnily I was talking to a friend the other day about sketch books and how I loved them. I have only been doing this a couple of years and before that drew on sheets of paper. *Just* like you said, I find it so much more freeing and fun in a book. You draw and close the book! You keep that drawing but it isn't this precious object that a single sheet of paper seems to be. I have been watching your DTT for 2 years and I LOVE THEM. Thank you and love from chilly Scotland❤.

Wow, what an amazing book, I also went through your works, but what I couldn't think of was that you have such a beautiful collection. It's like a personal notebook, beautifully presented and designed. This is the notebook that I and many others want.

What a great documentation of your ;home life and that meaningful vacation! It must be so fun to look back on. 2 questions: did you do stipling to get that kind of dotted effect on your hand drawing on April 22nd? AAAnnnddd, - did you intend to get married on that vacation? Oh, wait, one more question- did you apply the background washes before or after the ink?

  • @KoosjeKoene

Yes it was stippling and yes it was completely planned. it was the only reason to ever go to Vegas. Most background washes were done first.

Hi Koosje. Another cheering and inspiring video. I am at that early scritchy scratchy stage and I love fountain pens for sketching. I have just evolved from extra fine nibs to a new pen with a medium nib! Progress indeed. Maybe in a few years’ time like you I’ll be using a broad nib? Who knows. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and creative memories.

I find that I'm frustrated that I haven't finished one sketchbook yet. More than likely cuz I have 4 going at once. Two I'm painting in & 2 just sketches. I just started 6 months ago sketch booking & I feel scattered. Which is a high contrast to my regular "life". At least it's not causing anxiety, quite the opposite.

I have always kept drawing since I was a kid. I only started to use sketchbooks to keep sometime around 2012 or 2013.
