I watched this video 2 years ago, when Paddy released it. However I failed to take his advice and have suffered along for 2 years just thinking that I could play as is, this despite me really wanting to be a golfer whi shoots low scores. Yesterday I had the most atrocious game ever, I just couldn't hit the ball straight. My friend told me to put the club in the fingers of my right hand, just like Paddy says here. My response was that it feels so ridiculously uncomfortable and I can't control the club. He forced me to swing like that, I hit my best shots of the day and was more balanced and controlled in my swing. My mind was blown away. My worst decision to date in golf was not listening to this video when I first saw it. Thank you for the advice Paddy, wishing you everything of the best, I know you probably won't see this but I figured I would say it anyway. Whoever watches this video, I hope you don't make the mistake I did. Golf really can be a miserable game when you don't get the basics right.

If you're golfing correctly, then you start the next round ignoring the advice again until a few holes into the back nine when things go well until they don't.

Padraig you have always been one of my favorite players ever. I have struggled with the game for a long time. This is one of the bravest, straight up insightful instructional videos I have ever seen. God bless you for sharing your wisdom. What a gift to the game 👏

This is one of those things that I've struggled with in my journey to become a better golfer. You explained the grip really well and I most appreciated the "squeezing your thumb with the pad of your right hand" reminder as it immediately feels like a better grip in that position.

Always thought i had a half decent grip... boy was i wrong! The second he said the glove wearing on the palm I knew I was in trouble. Off to wave a club around the house like a mad man for the next 6 weeks I go!

Paddy, you make everything so practical- no fancy, complicated, technical explanations- just common sense practical applications. Keep it up- your videos work for all levels.

Great Ambassador for Ireland and a great Ambassador for Golf, this is a great channel, now I must take a look at my grip!!

With all of the ‘loose’ instruction on KZread regarding the grip from folks who self define themselves as experts, I am so relieved that a champion like Mr. Harrington has take to this forum to educate the masses on the vital topic of the grip. I will certainly keep this video in my rotation. When a champion speaks, you listen.

I agree, but the thing about a man like Paddy, he doesn't need 'views' or 'likes', he KNOWS he's legit!

Thats one humble awesome dude right here taking time to do this. Absolutely amazing. Guy is dropping lesson after lesson for free that you generally would have to pay for. Cant thank him enough for making these videos.

I’ve looked forever for a video that showed clearly how you guys get your right hand on top like that. You’re the best!

A gentleman approached me at the driving range the other day, noticing I’m a new golfer and that I was consistently topping the ball, and mentioned my lead arm kept bending during the backswing. This sort of blew my mind as I felt I was focusing on keeping it straight, and it felt straight to me. Even when he showed me how it should look and I tried to replicate it, it felt awfully uncomfortable - but I was hitting a lot cleaner. I’m a more muscular guy so perhaps it’s a flexibility issue, but now I realize my grip has been deeper into my palm just as Padraig showed most am’s do in this video. Just did a few practice swings with a newly adjusted grip lower in my fingers. It’s made a world of difference, I can hear the difference in club speed without any added effort, my lead arm can extend comfortably just like the gentleman at the range showed me, all due to this minor detail. Thank you Paddy, can’t wait to get back out there and drill this into muscle memory.

I really admire your honesty. “Want to keep a bad grip and play every few months - might as well give up the game.” You’re not being harsh Paddy, just realistic. Love your tips.

Golf is a brutal harsh game that humiliates those who guess what swing mechanics are. Thank you for your stripped away visceral truth Paddy. I am that guesser and have struggled for 20 years because I could not get GRIP!!! At 25 I had a swing speed of 151 but it was all wasted on the account of ignorance and machismo! The male species is a slow learning rock smashing dope! Happy to give 13 minutes of my time to hear this.

I have been watching yt videos all year trying to figure it out. This sealed the deal, the right hand does press down, it does help the path, and it allows the push down rather than over the top. But like he said, chip shots up, until you get it. I love it! It's almost like there is a real buisness in taking lessons, over and over and over. This was a secret in my opinion, much like bryson these days.

@@raychad5058 thanks. Additional reply: wow the correct grip really transforms everything!! I felt much more confident and comfortable during my practice in the range and I can just whack the golf ball without hesitation!! Will try on the course tomorrow!

As follow up, I took this to the range and had one of my best sessions to date. Very very helpful.

This man does not make it complicated what so ever, which is rare for youtube golf lessons. Alot of golf teachers use words that can mean multiples things when they are describing crucial points of a lesson and it blows my mind.

I’ve been looking at videos on grip for a ages now, this is by far the best explained video. Cheers Paddy you legend!

Thanks, I stagnated on 18 hcp for years, changed grip headed backford to go forward, total game changer. Dont watch any videos before this one guys. I now have GRIP imprinted on my brain .. playing off 18, now off 6 in 2 months. Holes in glove were the clue !

Messed around with hitting balls ever since I was a kid but at 60 only joined a club this year. Got some second hand clubs and headed out only to realise that I have picked up a lot of bad habits over the years. Paddy's no nonsense tips helps me cut through the bull. Beginning to be able to shape the shot, 'swishing' the club has added no end of yards, 'chest' has helped me cut out lateral movement and 'hold' has got my playing mates slagging the bleep out of me (but helps me to 'complete the process' every time). Cannot wait to break 90. Getting close! More importantly......loving the game. Cheers Padraig.

I really appreciate (make we really appreciate) you taking time to give us these great tips. I played rather poorly today and realized around the 15th or 16th hole that I had poor grip. I might even need to go to midsize grips because my grip seems to be loose even during the practice swing. By the way you have one incredible back yard. Thank you for this explanation of the grip. I probably have had a bad grip for 30m years. Sometimes it would work for awhile and not so much other times. I will integrate this grip into my game . Season is close to shutting down as Winter approaches. Definitely something to learn.

This video and the advice the man gives is absolute gold. And the good news is if you already grip the club in your fingers you already swing it good, or you will soon. Personally i dont knit my hands together as much because i have to have a more separated overlap to get the comfortable mobility Padraig mentions. The classic instruction would tell me to get my hands together but i dont get a proper hinge that way.

This video has helped me tremendously. I never realized I was gripping in the palm all these years. Took me a few days to get comfortable with the change but the impact has been extremely positive in terms of my control and consistency.

Without a doubt this is the best video on how to hold the club on the internet and I've watched hundreds. Have immediately applied Padraig's teaching from this video firing a 40 and 38 on nine holes the last two days! Thats shaving 5-7 strokes from my average on nine holes. Thank you, Padraig! Padraig, I went to the range this morning and your tips were just what I needed to improve my ball striking and accuracy. My grip was not right. Now it is. I hit the ball 100% better. Many thanks for the grip tip. I have never pressed the right thumb on the left to secure the grip position. Works great before it was the fingers doing all the work. Now the control of hands is amazing shots. Art

This got my game back on track, I knew my grip was all wrong by the ware on my glove but didn't know how to fix it. When I played next it took me a few holes to get it right, the second 9 was the most accurate and consistently straight I have played in years. Wow this is really amazing a true champion with 3 major wins sharing his fundamentals to us amateurs to me is considered an angel coming from heaven. I have looked at your other videos and applied it at the range and it really works. I hit the golf balls crisps and extra distance. I still need more practice to get used to it. I have been playing for a long long time and every time I left the range I felt disappointed. Not this time my motivation is back again.
