A Mother's Message to All Addicts l True Stories of Addiction

Experiencing a loved one suffer from addiction is not easy. Even with the pain of losing them to their addiction, there is still hope for those seeking help.
Steffen was born to a kind and loving mother. But she was married to an abusive man.
Steffen was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. His mom would often come home from work to Steffen and his friends drinking and smoking pot. She knew he was going down a dangerous road. She recognized that his bipolar symptoms were getting worse. He was “happy one second and then you know, look at him wrong and the world was going to end,” she recalls.
Eventually, Steffen married his high school sweetheart and they had three children. Junior, Mindy, and Khaleesi adored their daddy. Meanwhile, Steffen continued to battle his addiction.
One day, Baby Khaleesi got ahold of something that Steffen dropped on the floor. Her parents rushed her to the hospital and doctors administered Narcan to save her life. As a result, Child Protective Services wouldn’t allow Steffen around the children.
When they got home from Wendy’s, he and Junior went to his room to play Call of Duty. The next morning, when Baby Khaleesi started crying Steffen wasn’t waking up to take care of her. His mom went into the bedroom to wake him up, but he wouldn’t. He was dead.

Someday you will have the answers for Jr when he says what happened to my Dad. I wish I could wrap my arms around you and just make you feel better.

People lack meaning, that's the real problem... existential dilemma and trauma. Addiction is a symptom of deeper issues. Also, going after the drug dealer or the pharmaceutical company is not going to solve the issue. So long as there is a demand there will be someone to supply. This is a systemic problem that's multifaceted. Taking personal responsibility comes first.

I could hardly imagine the immense pain this mother had to go through, just finding out that her son had to endure all that abuse at the hands of the man she had married, more so when she finds out her son has started his descent into drug and alcohol addiction. And it was this same addiction that has taken him from her. People have got to understand that it's not only those who are in a drug or alcohol addiction that are suffering, it greatly affects their loved ones, their family, and their friends as well. So much so for this poor mother who had to go through this entire hell. I hope she gets through her grief and find peace and happiness she so deserves after all of this someday.

Thank you for your story. I saw the title and knew I needed to watch this. My 23 year old daughter died from a fentanyl overdose, 2 years ago. She was a young mom to 3 children. She worked as a peer recovery counselor, and she was 2 1/2 years clean from heroin. She was randomly drug tested at her job and was clean until that fateful night. She had an abusive bf who lived with her, and she told him to move out the day before she died. He admitted to me that he relapsed a few days before she died. I know he had something to do with her death. Her credit cards, cash, her engagement ring, and her cellphone were all missing when police investigated. Her clothes were thrown away in the garbage can outside, and the day after someone went to her house and looted her home leaving only a mattress and trash. Police investigated this as a homicide, but he was never charged. Now my daughter doesn’t have justice. The medical examiner said there were no needle marks ( that is how she took heroin) so he said it is possible that she ingested it and did not know. This bf, was moving his tv and other things out of her house, before she was placed on a gurney. Why the police let him leave, and why he was never charged.... it’s not right.
