A Light Restoration of a Dewalt MBF Radial Arm Saw

I recently purchased this 1956 Dewalt MB / MBF radial arm saw. The saw could not be plugged in to test, so I took the saw apart, rewired it, painted it, built a new table for it and dialed it in for making 90 degree cuts. This is not meant to be a tuturial on rehabilitating these old saws, but to show my experience performing a "light" restoration. For more information on these saws, check out the DeWalt Radial Arm Saw Forum -- forums.delphiforums.com/woodbu...
and the super helpful video: Radial Arm Saw Alignment/Calibration --

It’s great to see these wonderful tools brought back to like new functioning. I’m fortunate to have my late father’s MBF. Thanks for all of the helpful links!

I assume you’ve seen videos from Northland Workshop on all things Radial Arm Saw, I see the mount in yours that he shows how to make a simple, effective anti-kickback arm to add to this unit which originally had one. I appreciate all you who show how these are disassembled as it helps promote users to tackle those likely ignored or long neglected maintenance tasks.👏🏻

Nice video I've got the mbf also ,mine is dated 1956 ....back when you got American made quality, made to last two lifetimes. I did a restoration recently.A lot of therapeutic work to get it up to snuff. changed out the bearings on the motor,rewired.....replaced the old roller bearings. The table for these really needs to be rock solid flat ,to true it up to the blade. The "Mr Sawdust table"is the one to make.Plan on spending some time getting it dialed in,but once its set up properly ,you'll get very accurate cuts.

Given all the advantages of the RAS over the CMS, can you give the reasons you are keeping your CMS?

Welcome to the RAS club! Good choice on the paint color... I have a few of the DeWalt RAS, but the MBF is the one I like the most. (I'm on the Delphi forum)

Hi, I just got mine, thanks for the video! Wondering, it looks like you had to replace the locating pin. Where did you find that? I need both the miter and bevel knobs.

Thanks, Marc. I really wish I had gotten a better photo of the wiring when I finished it. I think there was a post on Lumberjocks that helped, but then the Dewalt RAS group was also had some helpful posts. I'd post a photo on that group to get some advice if I were you. forums.delphiforums.com/woodbutcher

I just refurbed and aligned my 12" (7790 Type 7). You are going to shame me into repainting it. Nice job. I recommend "Mr. Sawdust"'s table. I made one and love it.

Currently about 13.5”, but I can adjust the fence and get around 15”. That said, Dewalt made much larger saws that will do longer cuts.

I'm curious..... Did you strip the old paint. Or just clean it up before repainting. If you just cleaned it..... how did you do that? I'm getting mine cleaner. but, still way too much "Old" crud to repaint Tom

I got rid of the loose stuff and gave it a light scrubbing with a brass wire brush. I didn’t need to remove much, plus I wanted to be conservative because I don’t know what was in that original paint.
