1:22 I remember having this exact realization as a kid. I had an outrage because I suddenly realized that there’s absolutely no strategy nor effort required because the entire game’s outcome is decided randomly, and my friend who went in expecting a good time had to watch shit go down. I was not expecting one of the most underwhelming boardgames to have such an interesting and rich history, this is probably one of my favourite boardgame videos yet, maybe even my favourite overall

I vividly remember a game of this at school where the people I was against INSISTED that you go up the Ladders as you pass them, not if you land on them. Obviously they won because they took literally every shortcut on their path

Actually maybe that could be an interesting variant. But the key difference being you also go down every time you pass a snake or chute. That sounds chaotic at least, especially if someone redesigned the board with loads of twisting paths. It’d probably still suck but there’s a chance it could be 5-10% better

i was gonna say that chutes was better because chutes take you down and ladders take you up, but now that i think of it, if you imagine the board as a mountain you're climbing, the snakes could chase you off the edge

I always did wonder as a kid as to why there was a replacement with chutes instead of snakes (and that chutes and ladders existed). There was something about calling a snake your friend and trying to convince your family that you won't go back to the start during family game nights

Me and my little brother remade the game, recalling it kings,queens knights and…Snakes?! Where you would battle all around the board while trying not to get eaten

The spinner is to prevent choking incidents that inevitably happen with dice. This is a game for 3-year-olds, a lot of games aimed at that age group use them.

Someone from my country make snakes and ladders movie. And it's horror movie. Honestly the best thing that come from that is the poster of the movie. it's really cool, I thought "it seems like they're forced to play really huge snakes and ladders boardgame but using their real body". they're not, the boardgame is a macguffin, they're not even playing it they just find a box inside a tree and go "this looks like there's something important inside... Let's open it tomorrow" you could replace it with monopoly or chess or anything that is handmade and made of wood I know it's irrelevant, but I'm trying to vent because I somehow tricked 3 times into watching this, because I keep gaslighting myself because how insignificant snakes and ladders boardgame is in the story despite the title and the poster

yesterday i turned in a project for class where we had to make a boardgame deisgn based on ourselves, and mine was based on Snakes and Ladders but all my friends called it CHutes and Ladders and it was so flabbergasting, like going dowj slides is fun, would you really lose your progress because you saw a fun long slide and be happy with that, this is propagadna against slides because slides and chutes are jolly good fun and shouldnt have negative consequences!

Chutes and Ladders just sound more right in my non-English ears, but Snakes and Ladders makes more sense.. We call it "ladder-game" and the classic board in my country only have ladders.. You go up the normal ladder and then fall down broken ladders, though some versons have snakes, none have chutes..
