A Final Farewell to Carters Steam Fair, Yard open day October 2023, Rides built for the final time

The Carters family were unable to sell the fair as a complete entity, so now, the rides are to be sold Individually.
This was the finally time the rides will stand next to each other.
The Steam Fair was built up in the yard mainly to showcase to potential buyers, but in the final two days it was open to the public for one final chance to grab a photo.
The rides were not running, but it didn't take much imagination to hear and smell the fair in action!
Join me for one final tour.......

As you say Mat, a bitter-sweet day out. It's an absolute treasure trove and I'm surprised no organisation has stepped in to save it before it is irrevocably split up for sale - another piece of history gone. "You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone".

I will be honest, That was a hard video for me, like saying Farwell to an old friend. I struggle to know what to say.

Thanks for the video. I produced a video of their Dec 2022 open day but couldn't make it to this one. It appears that the rides are ending up in the right hands so they'll live on doing what they were designed to do. Joby will continue to maintain heritage skills in his training courses and books too, so elements of a happy ending in place! 🙂

Yes, somewhere like that, some of the rides are in the Black Country Museum, I went there earlier in the year (there is a video on the channel) and they worked so well. I've put this chapter behind me now as I look forward to finding out where they go. Anyway thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

Unfortunately Beamish almost completely destroyed a very important set of gallopers, the Sally Beach set, thanks to mismanagement and a poor understanding of what is needed to keep vintage rides in good order. Fortunately they sold that set back into private hands and a restoration is underway. I think they've learned their lesson and the current fairground at Beamish is owned and operated by a third party.

Did they also not have a dive bomber ride or had that already been sold.

The Divebomber was sold to David Littleboy, Littleboy's Vintage Restoration (Littleboys Vintage Fairground). They have been out on private hire work and I understand that there is a plan to open up an events centre in the Wakefield area at some point in the future.
