Carters Steam Fair and the Corgi Models

Its been just over a year since Carters Steam fair concluded their Farwell Tour in Prospect Park, Reading and I have been thinking for some time about a video. Well keeping within the collectors theme, I take a look at some of Carters Corgi models, have a chat about the fair and conclude with some footage of this wonderful Steam fair.

Loved this Matt! Whilst I don't share your interest in collecting travelling show models, I always tune in because your enthusiasm is a pleasure to witness! Regarding the repair unfortunately required to the wagon, I can't speak with authority but have watched lots of 'Matchbox car restoration' type videos, where a mix of superglue and baking powder seems to be an effective patching material. There is a thriving after-market parts scene where you might be able to secure a replacement windscreen too. Good luck!

I will give it a go, I've not tried the baking powder and super glue, at they say, what can go wrong. As always very kind of you.

I made the final visit to Carters Fair at Priory Park Hornsey, London last summer and had a few rides and had a few words with Joby and then had a hotdog and ice cream with doughnuts. I do hope there is salvation and a permanent home for as you so rightly say immaculately preserved rides trucks and living vans. Corgi has released a new model of Showrack No 3 in 1;76 scale which is my favourite of trucks as it was built as a showman with a built-in generator a modern vehicle for its time working as a showman steam traction engine would but not quite as good looking. Thank you for the excellent video. Ian

I totally understand why Joby and the family decided to stop touring and as they say all good thing must come to an end, but there is hope! I will have a look out for the No3 model. I am hopefully going to Carters open day this weekend and on Sunday they have an auction where the star lot is No5, The catalogue is on their website. Anyway thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment and share.

Very different to a modern fair, simple lights, the smell of steam and candyfloss and of course the music!

Hi Matt. Some lovely models you've got there. Pity about the damage but maybe you can get a replacement on the well known auction site. I must admit I've never heard of Carter's fairs, only Chipperfield's, and I've been around longer than you. However, I've certainly heard of Carter's Seeds (horticultural company) who were based in South London. Paul. 👍❤

Not a bad idea, I will have a go at a repair and then search for a replacement. Its worth looking up Carters Fair, it is something quite special and a lovely family with a lovely history and passion for traditional skills and showman.

Hi Matt, I think the damage on the trucks front wing may in fact be Mazak rot. I have had this happen on a few of Corgi trucks myself. I have actually been able to disintegrate some of my models just by rubbing them between my fingers! Its caused by a bad mazak mix in the Chinese factories & its quite a common problem. It also has affected some Hornby loco's as well.
