I love you Steve and I agree with some of your points but I digress... "I've been screwed forever so fuck them if they are getting screwed now" is kind of a bad take. Any fight against the corporate overlords is a good fight. Gotta remember that a very small % of SAG members are big time actors and even less of the writers guild were making anything close to good money even before streaming came into play. Yea it sucks musicians have been shit on but you gotta support the little guy here. That's most of who is on strike.

I think a subtle point was missed in your description of AI 'taking their work'. I think they are more up in arms with how AI (in this case large language models) functions. It isn't taking the work per se, it is taking the work by copying the writers work and then passing it along as the AI's own. You have to train the AI on a dataset (the writer's previously written work) before it can be then spit something back out- which is a pastiche of multiple writers.

I suppose it's a nice gesture that some of the actors joined the strike. Just reminded of Ricky Gervais's monologue during that award show, when he basically told all these mega rich actors that what they think doesn't really matter. Just accept your award and sit your ass down🤙

The Screen Actors Guild IS on strike. not some actors. all of them.

Just some clarification. The first drum machine- 1930. First commercially available drum machine- 1959. Linn LM-1 Drum Computer- 1980- first drum machine to use digital samples. There were only 500 made and were very expensive. Also.... a musician had to program the drums....... thinking a drum machine is AI is like thinking a stove or calculator is AI. Surprised you didn't mention G C Coleman.

Solidarity forever with striking workers. Of course writers deserve to be paid fairly while the bosses make insane profits off of their hard work. I am always on the side of the workers, no matter what industry. Strong unions = better lives for working American families.

@@JunkdrummerTV When Biden busted up the railroad strike, he exposed himself as a complete liar on the issue of unions. You can't call yourself "the most pro-union president you've ever seen" and then force workers to accept the shit deal their bosses offered. Their union publicly stated that the railways should instead be nationalized, which I fully agree with.
