Megaesophagus USED to be a death sentence for dogs (and cats). But a lady's whose dog had this condition said no to euthanasia for her dog. She invented a highchair looking contraption that has the dog sitting vertically so that gravity makes the food go down into the stomach. The contraption patented and is still in use today. She named the chair after her dog with the condition, Bailey. It's now known as the Bailey Chair. Because when feeding her dog, she would say, "Ok Bailey, get in your chair." It was Bailey's chair. 😊

When your baby fluffs are so playful and always happy, and then comes the time that they're ill.. so heartbreaking moments. But you got to be strong because the smart fluff can sense it, and because fluffs are strong-hearted themselves 🥰🐶

My dog has had this for the last few months. Took a while to figure out what was going on. Shes good 99% of the time but about one-two nights every few weeks she has a bad episode where she just coughs constantly and the mucus won’t come out unless she runs around. Its currently 3 am and after 3 hours her couching and no sleep for either of us I chased her around the back yard in a foot a snow and 20 degrees for about 10 minutes. It all got worked up and now shes sound asleep. Hate seeing her suffer but love her so much. The things we do our pets 😋

I had a puppy with this. Unfortunately, she was slowly starving to death from the time she got off mom’s milk. She was aspirating so much we finally made the decision to put her down. I cried so hard when we had to make the decision.

My greyhound has this problem. Instead of the Bailey Chair, I lay the same mat and keep his mouth open so the food will come up. It started after he recovered from Canine Streptococcus. We grind his kibbles with a ninja then add warm water. When he does regurgitates, to prevent it from passing to his upper respiratory area, thus causing pneumonia, I use my hands to keep his mouth open and the regurgitated contents won’t be swallowed or inhaled. Try lifting his food bowl by using a feeding tray. Increase his meals in smaller portions. I try to comfort him when I know he is about to regurgitate his meal. By keeping his mouth open to expel the food, it quickens the episode. Comforting him with soothing speech decreases his anxiety. Afterwards, I will feed him within an hour, but in small portions.
