My kitten has mega-e. He was diagnosed at 6wks right after weening him off kitten formula. It's so uncommon in cats and there's hardly any info out there for mega e cats. It's all trial and error. I stumbled across a feline megaesophagus page which helped me out more than I could have imagined. My kitten is now 9 months old and eats mushed food standing up.

Not sure if you will see this. Could you perhaps share the page you used for information. I think my cat has this. He is 9 months and sometimes regurgitates his food. He also has no meow (it’s more like a quiet squeak). The vets are not able to find out what is wrong despite an X-ray and examination down his throat (although one of his tonsils is larger than the others and marked down as an abnormality)

My dog has had this for four years, $30,000 later, she's happy and her esophagus is so large it takes up her entire body, butnthey said the good news it can't get larger. She always throws up but her quality of life has improved. If anyone has a dog that has this condition and has questions, I'm literally an expert. Comment back if you have questions. Here is idiopathic and we've learned how to manage :)

Rena Patrick hi! My Instagram is ineedanap if you want to talk in messages there. But my dog, is on a wet food diet. I add the food then I put the same amount of water in and mix it until it's pretty much like a soup. Then hold her upright for about half hour so it can slide down to her belly. They sell these special feeding chairs called bailey chairs that are recommended for feeding. Just google bailey chair megaesophagus. If you can't afford one, you can email them on heir website and they'll make you for no cost. She takes cisapride to help make her esophagus work better. (It is very expensive and you can only get a weeks worth at a time. It's around 50$ a week. So 200$ a month) She also takes hydrocodone-homatropine for her cough so she doesn't get a mucus like cough because that's usually what makes her throw up. It helps to feed smaller meals throughout the day instead of big ones because it's easier to digest. Also, when they lay down especially at night, if their food is trapped, eventually it has to go somewhere and that's why they throw up. So if you can have him sleep on a pillow or something so his butt is on the floor and his arms and head and neck are upward, that helps too. Also get him checked for myasthenia gravis, Addison's disease, a thyroid problem and I forgot the other one. But those can cause it and if you can manage one of those, then it'll help. Also, you know those travel pillows, that you wear on an airplane, kind of like a big donut you wear on your neck, I've read those can help keep their necks up at night. My dog has a collapsing trachea so she can't use one. But maybe it'll help yours. Hope this helped! It's very scary to go through this, if you have more questions message me on Instagram. Also my dogs food is prescription and it's Hills Prescription Diet Digestive Care :)

Hi I desperately hope your still monitoring this comments. We have a seven week old puppy. The vet suspects he has ME, but I am not so sure (we have a second appointment with another vet) on Friday for a second look. He was fine on Saturday, then Sunday he seemed lethargic Sunday night and into Monday he began vomiting or spitting up, to be honest I am not sure which is more accurate. He seems to feel very badly--more like a virus. When we brought him in they originally thought he had parvo (despite being vaccinated). Would this be a normal presentation of ME--virus like? Or would it just be spitting up, then back to activities.

My cat used to do this once a week. Then she got sick with triaditis and now she does it practically everyday. The vets I've visited are treating her as it was gastritis.

My dog Kalei is a huge Anatolian, he was sitting in front of me and I pushed my knee into his esophagus, not hard just did it as a friendly nudge, at which point he regurgitated some water and food. He has been doing the regurgitating for a couple months now a few times a week, sometimes more and almost always in the morning. He eats his meal after playing for about 60-90min every evening with another anatolian. I'm wondering if I should try the knee again in a few days to rule out it wasn't just coincidence? My vet wasn't worried about his regurgitating yet as Kalei is a one time a day eater and leaves a bit of his food for morning. When he wakes up, if he immediately drinks water it is almost 100% it won't stay down. If he waits an hour or so it doesn't happen for the most part. That's all the info I have, should I be worried, he is peak health otherwise, tall, lean, muscular.

my dog started to eat bird seed & started getting better. when I moved out of the city to a country property she would eat wombat poo . now she doesn't vomit at all . but I still feed her in her bailey chair & small amounts 5 times a day considering she was almost dead 12 months ago.

My cat has 2 esophagus. She had so many tests to conclude this. This is a very rarely condition found in animals or humans. My question is..Would this condition behave like megaesophagus? As in all my search the simptoms seem same. Should i feed her in a different angle? Or is not the same thing, and i don t have to worry about food going in lungs? Thank you, if you answer me back.

My boy has this as a side effect from also being diagnosed with myasthenia gravis which is a problem with the nerves and muscles! This makes keeping him up right after eating incredibly difficult so the chair may be an option although I’m going to have to build one as they are not widely available in the UK. He’s a GSD at 40kg so not the easiest to nurse or hold when trying to get the food down that and with his legs just going from under him because of MG is very distressing. I’ve love ti know if anyone has experienced this at all and has any tips we are in the first week of him being discharged so any advice and help would be amazing!
