I'm 79 years old and am on the keto diet. five months ago I weighed 232 lbs. Was feeling very bad couldn't even get up from a sitting position. After just five months on keto, I can get up and move without pain. I now weigh 183 lbs and feel great and am moving around without pain! I'm sleeping well and feel much younger. I do not snack and don't eat sugar. I do eat a large salad of bok choy, napa cabbage, kale, mustard greens, celery, onions, tomato and cheese using homemade salad dressing of garlic, dijon mustard, balsamic vinegar, olive oil and salt and pepper. I follow the salad with pa fatty protein and half an avocado. If I'm still hungry, I'll have a small handful of macadamia nuts. Prior to starting this diet I felt hopeless. Now, I feel so good!

I have a cheat period once a week. Thurs night to Friday night. No more than a 24 hour period. I have all the carbs and sugar I want. It prevents the plateau effect because I'm basically tricking my body into doing a restart and the cheat period helps me stay on the diet because I know I will be in carb heaven at the end of the week. There are many delicious low carb meals but being real with myself, I know low carb 100% of the time is not sustainable for me. Yes it kicks me out of ketosis for a day but then I'm right back on it. Have lost about 25lbs in about a month and a half. Have about 15lbs to go. Having a cheat period has been gold

Put two bags in a cup of boiled water and drink it. Then, when the bags are cooled off put them on your face. You can run hot water on them to heat them up slightly and keep rubbing on your face for half a minute to a minute. I’ve been doing this for a month straight now, I stopped for two days and I swear I had two new pimples.

Been eating a low fat, high carbohydrate, high protein diet for the past 10 years. Decided to change when my HbA1c was 5.6 mg/dl and fasting glucose was 112, pretty much prediabetic. Started out on the carnivore diet, but found it too restrictive, too much greasy food, so I switched to keto, sub 20 gm carbs daily, about a month into the carnivore diet. It took about 4 months to get my fasting glucose regularly under 100.

Keto has been great to me so far. I was overweight after having three kiddos. Nothing seemed to get the weight off. Type 2 diabetes runs in my family and I was at higher risk for getting it because of my weight. My doctor suggested either low carb or keto since I was now done breastfeeding. It has been so good to me. Lots of research on alternatives helped make the transition easier egg white wraps for easy lunches. Chaffles (which is basically an egg and half a cup of shredded cheese stuck in a waffle maker) make for amazing sandwich, buns or burger buns. And an electrolyte drink supplement to stave off the dreaded keto flu. It also helped me with chronic pain that I didn't even realize. I was living with each day. I have early onset rheumatoid arthritis. I have had it since my early 20s and holy moly. I did not even know keto could help with that. But I feel so much less inflamed and my joints just feel so much better. The best part really is that I feel so full even though I'm in a calorie deficit and losing weight steadily.

Calories are easy to measure, we’re pushed conceptually to equate JUNK like Coca-Cola with actual food. i started a low carb diet due to being pre diabetic. a1c was high. so i started the dr atkins diet which is pretty much the same thing. over the weeks you can gradually add in more "carbs" if you like. as long as you aren't gaining weight ( eating more carbs than you are burning energy). run , walk, workout ect. everyone is different. i have started eating more protein. i cut out rice, bread, pasta, potates ect. i am eating meat, eggs, fish, vegtabeles and little bits of fruit and nuts. you don't have to do it that way but i choose to. and i will NOT cut carbs out 100%. it's all about just watching the intake of carbs . i expreienced some side affects of training my body to go from being reliant on a higher carb diet to a higher fat/protein diet. if you are feeling off you can add a cup or 1/2 a cup of nuts or berries or have some more protein. it's your body just telling you it's not completely satisfied yet. takes time and trying new things. the bad things she mentioned aren't anything to do with a keto diet. it's just common sense. drink 8 glasses of water a day. limit red meat of course. i mainly eat chicken and fish. and listen to your body. you got this.

Absolutely no need, whatsoever, to watch red meat other than the calories. There is NO CREDIBLE evidence against red meat-I challenge you to find it! Nutritionists are home ec students. They preach what they are told unconditionally. The only “data” that even suggests a “problem” with red meat is 100% based on food frequency surveys, which have so many confounds that they are useless. The “study” theybused to push the low fat diet many years ago was FAKED, which we learned after Ancel Keys died. There was a heart disease epidemic, but it was caused by CRISCO (the first fake fat seed oil which are disasterous.). They blamed meat instead, which had been consumed for millennia! His crazy theory was pushed through government by McGovern (it’s on KZread, look it up). SCIENTISTS OBJECTED, they pushed it anyway. McGovern was from the grain belt.

It's optiminal to go on and off. Metabolic flexibility is what is actually the healthiest for your metabolism. This requires training to achieve. When we eat mostly carbs. Our glycotic energy system is dominant. When we eat mostly fats. Our oxidative energy system is dominant. You want to have both systems be dominant sometimes to keep your ATP efficient. I no longer get keto flu at all. I've noticed my health improve dramatically since doing this. I am more in tune with my body than ever.

Just keep in mind, sugar isn’t the primary source of energy, fats are. Sugar is oxidative priority number 1. Alcohol is oxidative priority 0. Our immune system does its best to eliminate alcohol (some comes about from digestion even if you don’t drink), then sugar. Fats aren’t treated like this at all, which is why the “calorie” is such a completely bogus weight loss concept. Fats are the energy storage system, sugar (starch) is a toxin. So too are seed oils, which the body tries to use, but can’t produce hormones from it.

True, but you need animal fats and proteins of some kind. Eggs or fish are great. Veggies aren’t enough. You can go a very long time, but I believe it is damaging long term. The fact is we need fats and protein, and there isn’t much in vegetables. What little there is is incomplete or not bio-available at all or in only a small fraction when compared with animal fats.

The great thing is that as long as I lift hard and fast I can eat my favorite stuff. Bacon, cheese, and burgers without the bun are my favorite. 10 mins a day of hardcore no break lift while eating like a carnivore. It's really not hard stop making excuses. I more or less accidentally did low carb 4 years ago and lost half of the desired amount of weight in only 3 months. I plateaued from there, but wasn't really trying to lose weight anymore after that since I already felt so much better and healthier. I held this for like 2 years without problems, but then got into a bad place mentally, didn't really care about my eating habits, because I had to fight other demons and I'm back at zero again. It's frustrating, but I'm excited to do low carb again. I hope to do it until I'm at the weight I've been at 4 years ago and then slowly reintroduce carbs in moderation to my diet or at least eat 'normal' again, because I don't see myself doing low carb my whole life. It's great as a kickstarter and to get some folks out of the prediabetic stage, which makes it almost impossible to lose weight.

I’ve only been on the app for a few days, but I can already tell what I thought was “low carb” was not actually low carb. I was eating way too many vegetables and too much protein. Now I’m really hoping to see some changes because I’m desperate and don’t want to give up. My starting weight in March was 187 and now I’m 180.02 lbs. so, yeah not much of a difference but I’m gonna keep tracking on the app and see what happens throughout the month.

I HAVE A QUESTION: I live among the Mayans and they eat tons of corn tortillas and other liquified corn drinks and very many are getting ill, with lots of diabetes, fatty liver, gall bladder stones, and such. An elderly couple has turned to me for help and I don't know just how completely they should get off of corn tortillas, or if just cutting back to maybe one or two per day would be ok. Corn is mainly pure starch and is not very nutritious, or is that an oversimplification?

Overall this is a pretty good video and I agree with the majority of the points. I lost 60 lbs in 6 months on keto and It is very important to point out the ONLY way that you would have any chance of getting heart disease on keto is if you filled your diet with man-made fats such as soybean oil, canola oil and margarine ( the mainstream media lied to you about these being healthy) any fat made by God is good for you and that includes animal fats. so eating red meat can actually you great results on keto just make sure that the animal was treated right ie grass-fed cage-free etc.

How does keto compare to a standard, balanced diet in which you mainly keep calorie defitic in mind? That's all I'm trying to find out

  • @Sadoldman

    @Sadoldman

    11 ай бұрын

I believe standard carb or low carb ultimately makes no difference really. Scientifically, a calorie deficit is the utmost requirement to weight loss. As long as you are in a calorie deficit, you will lose weight. However, the foods you do chose to eat impact the time, strength, and energy it takes to do so. The thermic effect of food when eating whole sources of fats and proteins will amount to the body burning far more calories eating in such way. Not to mention, the whole foods eaten in keto keep you full and overtime, you crave processed carbs less. Thus, making it easier to be in a caloric deficit. Keto is something strategic that can better set you up for success and speed up your weight loss if you truly feel drawn to eat that way. Elsewise, you don’t have to be in ketosis to lose weight. Carbs are satiating for some people and play a huge role in their weight loss as long as the calories are correct.

But you can go over caloric deficit with a keto diet by eating a ton, which is honestly impossible if you are truly in a low carb, high fat diet

I think most videos do not address this well - 70 % is a lot - how do you get 70 % of fat in your diet a day ? Most seem to focus on protein and vegies but its the fat right in Keto that your body needs for energy. This is why I am bit scared to try this, as I do not want my body to have nothing, or not enough fat, to burn for energy. Eating the protein is easy, but the fat intake for me , not so much. And how do you measure the fat intake, or do you just do Keto strips ?
