One thing that Tim gets slightly wrong here, The USAF still wanted to get rid of the A-10 before, during, and after The first gulf war. A lot of kills given to the A-10 were later credited to F-15/16’s after review. The only thing keeping the A-10 alive is Congress absolutely refusing to let the Air Force look for a new aircraft the same way they refuse to allow the navy to finally retire all battleships.

A small thing, the belt types on the A-10 currently although look the same, they are not. The AP-I shell on the ground belt has the same 102mm max pen but has significantly better angle penetration than the API-T shell. And dealing with Russian MBTs the extra angle pen is really useful in my opinion

Actually A-10 didnt performed well during gulf war, suffering the higher rate of loss per mission of USA strike aircraft, it was also not able to use its gun due to heavy damaged following gun passe, and at the end its anti tank/ attaque role were mainly realised by A-6/F-111F ton only name a few

Funny thing is the 105 losses were almost directly caused by the idiotic ROEs dictated by McNamara and Johnson. It was a good plane for what it was designed to do. And even filled roles further than its original purpose. Thuds and their pilots are so overlooked on by history it's sort of sad..

Pro tip, raise your flaps when you touch down. It puts some more weight on your brakes and shortens your landing run

The A10 was outperformed by the F111 in the Gulf War, in the A10s role, yet the F111 was decommissioned. The A10 actually had the lowest kill per sortie of any U.S. tactical aircraft of the Gulf War. I do like the A10 because it's a symbol of badass, but I wouldn't pick the A10 for my team over other jets which perform better in the same role.

The early A model should not have CCIP. The pilots had to manually adjust an aiming reticle for gun, rockets and bombs.
